What is the healthiest diet to have?
I understand this usually results in many people giving their subjective opinion based on their own personal experiences being vegetarian, Vegan, or otherwise. I'm asking if there's any evidence (long term, closely monitored studies) to determine that one is unanimously better than the others?
Everyone understands the countless health issues that the average American/Canadian has but let's assume for argument sake that you have 3 people.
One is a meat eater however he follows Canada's food guide as well as he can, eats fish, lean meats, vegetables, fruits, starch, etc. It can be said that he's reasonably healthy as he follows the guide.
The second is a vegetarian and follows it exactly as expected, in the event of a b12 deficiency is taking multi-vitamins which offers the recommended percentage. So we have a perfectly healthy vegetarian diet supplemented with multi-vitamans.
Same goes for the final person, but they're Vegan. Correct caloric intake, proper management of essential vitamins and minerals.
My question is, of these 3 people, are they not all equally healthy, assuming none of them suffer from a vitamin deficiency?
I understand it's sort of vague but you get what I'm asking.
Thanks to everyone that helps.
11 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan7 years agoMy wireless internet connection is slower than it should be?
Hey there, I have an odd issue with my Samsung Laptop. It's about 2 years old, I haven't cleaned the fan since I got it but I doubt that's affecting things. Anyway, I just had wireless internet installed, it works great with 20 mbps on my girlfriend's laptop, but when I connect to it as a wireless connection it always gives me about 0.16 mbps - 2.30 mbps at its peak. The interesting thing is that when I connect the ethernet cord manually I consistently get the full 20 mbps.
It's only going extremely slowly when I connect it wirelessly. It shows that I have 5 bars, a full signal, and it never really goes down from 5 bars. It also seems to be faster on my cell phone than it is on the internet. I suppose what I need to know is, is it more likely that this is caused by some kind of malicious program or could it be something with the wireless network card itself? Any help is appreciated. I've been trying to figure it out for about a week now. Thanks.
1 AnswerOther - Internet8 years agoWhat makes the final decision when it comes to our actions?
This is something I've been wondering for a while and there may be a simple answer but I'm confused about the concept. Most people will agree that our consciousness is comprised of both our emotions and our rationality/logic and we use these to make decisions/act on them.
Why are we able to disregard these things and make decisions that neither would agree with and what part of the brain makes that decision?
A simple example would be a stove element. If we were to stand in front of a stove with a lit element. We're contemplating touching the element. The rational/logical side of our brain will tell us not to do this. It'll tell us that the experience compromises our safety and is negative overall.
Our emotions will tell us that the experience is entirely negative as well. (Unless you enjoy pain). Most people when making this decision will unanimously decide that this is bad on both an emotional and rational/logical level, yet I still have the option to touch it anyway.
Let's say I ignore my logic and emotions and decide to touch the element anyway. What part of the brain makes this decision and why are we able to ignore both logic and emotions which are supposed to comprise our whole existence?
3 AnswersPhilosophy8 years agoWhat is the best book for irrational relationship jealousy?
I'm already using basic techniques but it's immensely difficult to control the jealousy and sometimes it's relentless. Even simple things like not knowing what she's doing or her not keeping in touch for 5 or so hours.
I know it's irrational and silly but trying to control emotions by way of logic is like trying to have a monkey direct an elephant by holding its ears. Sure it'll work for a bit, but when the elephant wants to go somewhere, the monkey isn't in control.
Anyway, I have a feeling it's due to personal insecurity, lack of trust (due to past relationships) coupled with fear of loss. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good book. I've checked a number of titles at Chapters but there's SO many and very few reviews so the ratings aren't reliable. I need techniques for overcoming the jealousy I feel as well as improving self-esteem ( I think) etc.
Also, I often feel like I deserve all of my partner's time which is silly. This is also something I need to work on. I am in contact with a counselor but they're $90 an hour and I'm uncertain how effective this is.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoSilly chemistry question?
I have a few chemistry questions that seem really simply but there's one thing I'm sort of uncertain on.
The question will ask me to draw the structural formula for a compound, or a hydrocarbon in this case.
It'll ask me something like 'Draw a structural formula for 2, 4 dimethylheptane'
This seems fairly simple, the side chains are at the second and fourth carbon atom and there are 7 total carbon atoms, but here comes the silly question... when working with drawing these, how do I determine whether the side chain is ch2, ch3, c2h5, etc. Take
Anyway, hopefully you know what I mean. The standard formula for heptane has 7 carbon atoms and 16 hydrogen atoms, how do I determine how many additional hydrogen atoms are on the side chain?
Thanks for anyone that helps.
2 AnswersChemistry8 years agoWhat foods work well for being healthy?
Hello there, I'm trying to eat healthy and avoid junk food. It's fairly costly and of course there's the negative health ramifications. Anyway, the biggest problem I have is I simply don't know what to get. I'm 23, male, live in Ontario, Canada and I find the problem is I require a LOT of calories so it's difficult to purchase healthy food such as fruits/vegetables unless I want to eat a half dozen apples, 3 bananas and so forth.
I suppose what I'm looking for is something simple for someone with 0 cooking experience. I know blueberries are good, eggs can be good, bacon obviously isn't. Anyway, any advice or anything anyone can provide would be great. I'm just always so tired. I tend to lie in bed all day because I just lack energy.
Anyway, thanks.
2 AnswersDiet & Fitness9 years agoHow would you send a C++ program to someone?
I created a program in Dev C++ that teaches basic phrases in a number of languages and I wanted to send it to my brother and I'm not certain how. How do I turn it into an actual file and not something saved in Dev C++?
5 AnswersProgramming & Design9 years agoChemistry problem, simple but confusing me?
Hey there, I'm a little confused with a question. I'm not asking for an answer. I just want to know if I'm on the right track. (It's distance education and they're closed for the summer so no asking questions.) I'll copy and paste it.
6. Experimental evidence suggests that the nitrogen atom in ammonia, NH3, has four orbitals in the shape of a pyramid or tetrahedron.
a) Draw an energy-level diagram to show the formation of these orbitals.
(No electron promotion is required.) (4 marks)
b) Name the one type of hybrid orbital found in NH3 (1 mark)
It's asked me to draw an energy level diagram which I've attached a link to. (I know it's awful.). The one on the right is the one I believe it to be, but I don't know if this would create four identical bonds. It would create the pyramid shape though.
As for the second, the only orbital hybrid I could see would be sp3 if I'm not mistaken, but the one thing I'm curious about...
Nitrogen has 5 valence electrons, hydrogen has one, so the 5 would occupy 2 in the 2s orbital, and one electron in each orbital in the 2p orbitals. Couldn't the three hydrogen electrons just each share one from the 2p orbital and create an equal bond? Anyway, any help would be great. Thanks.
Link to energy level diagram of NH3. Only the nitrogen is there because that's all it asked for.
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoHow do atoms have 8 outer electrons in Lewis dot diagrams?
Hey there, I'm sort of confused. From what I understood the first s orbitals contain only a maximum of 2 electrons, the second p shell contains 3 orbitals, each holding 2 electrons and then from there it goes to another orbital, so (maybe I'm tired) but how can something like Neon being a noble gas have 8 valence electrons?
5 AnswersChemistry9 years agoWould this tsunami hit East Africa?
If an earthquake happened off the south coast of India with a magnitude of 8.1 would it hit East Africa and cause damage? I've looked into it and it seems like it would since they can travel across entire oceans at speeds of about 700 km/h (at least the 9.0 ones) but I have no way of confirming that an 8.1 one would damage East Africa. Any thoughts?
1 AnswerEarth Sciences & Geology9 years agoIs there any way to know what's causing my sciatic pain?
I lifted something heavy down a staircase and it began after that. It went away except for discomfort for many months and then came back when I lifted a TV. I went to ER since I don't have a doctor, he did an X-ray and said everything appears to be fine with the spine. He didn't say anything else though.
5 AnswersPain & Pain Management9 years agoIs a large earthquake more likely in Vancouver or Ottawa, and why?
Hey there, I have this question and I've read the material and I've done research and it indicates that in Vancouver there's a tectonically active fault extending 1200 km from Vancouver to North California. As well it indicates that it's at risk from transform faults and subduction zones but I can't find anything else, or anything that would indicate Ottawa itself is less likely to experience this.
3 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology9 years agoWhat are some healthy foods that don't require extensive cooking knowledge?
Hello there, I've researched this through google quite a bit but all of the suggestions are a little odd, such as, 'scrambled egg cupcakes with cheddar cheese frosting, mission fritada with wine syrup.' They name some ridiculous things. I just want to know what foods are good for you. I'm not looking to lose weight. I simply want to eat healthy.
I know the basics such as:
Bread
Eggs
Milk
Blueberries
Pretty much all vegetables
Lean meat, such as chicken
Oatmeal
Essentially I'm just wondering if you could name some other foods that are healthy so my meals aren't bound to the few foods I feel would be best for me. Also, I'm Ontario Canada if you need to know. Thanks again
Right, also you don't have to but if you're a nutritionist or anything I'd love to hear reasons why as well. Thanks.
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes9 years agoWhat course of action (if any) do I have to get my deposit back?
Hello there, long story short my old landlord is refusing my deposit. I believe it may already be too late from what I read but here's the details.
She requested a deposit when we moved in, we paid it, we moved on 5 days ago. We were sending her E-mails asking about the deposit but she just E-mailed us back stating there is a stain on the floor and evidently she had to hire a 'cleaning crew' (Entirely not true. Nothing needed to be done whatsoever except sweeping). My question is, do we really have any course of action?
Also, she's refusing to provide a receipt for rent. She provided one for the wrong amount, which I explained, then she provided one for the correct amount but the wrong year.... I am now requesting one for the correct amount in the correct year. Thanks again for any help.
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoWhat else is the Ordovician period known as?
Hey there, this question asks me what geologists call the Ordovician period. I've read over every page in the lesson at least 3 times, I checked google, read a number of articles. It's asking for a different name but I really don't know what it's looking for. It's only worth 1 mark so it's supposed to be simple but I cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
2 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology9 years agoI feel highly disconnected from the world and I can't seem to break out of it?
A few things about me to begin with, I'm 23, male, live in Canada, Ontario. I don't fully understand why but I constantly feel as if I'm disconnected from the world. I can simply stare at something for 10 minutes and have 0 thoughts. I do have my own hobbies such as chess and space science but I feel as if I'm watching a movie I've seen 10,000 times before.
It's been this way for quite a while. I'd have to say it began when I was about 18-19 or so. I'm not sure what specifically caused it. I do not drink, never have, no drugs obviously. I spent most of my childhood watching a ridiculous amount of movies. I often wonder if perhaps the movies dulled my mind but that was years ago and I feel as if I've moved past that so that's unlikely.
I also felt could be depression, but I don't show many other symptoms. I just want to EXPERIENCE things as other people do. I find the only time I can experience something is when I'm reading a good book. It's been this way for so long it's beginning to upset me severely. I'm trying to do things to 'wake myself up' such as run across traffic and taking far more risks than before.
I can't come up with why, my best guess is a childhood with no social contact, (self home schooled) and little to no reading up until the age of 18. I also thought it could be Asperger's syndrome but I do not recall this as a symptom. I'd appreciate any help or opinions. I'm at a complete loss for what to do at this point. Thanks....
3 AnswersPsychology9 years agoOne more physics question, then sleep time?
Hello again, this is one of the most unhelpful units I've come across. I'm having a lot of difficulty with the questions because everything is so unclear. The question states, "Determine the orbital period of the asteroid Pallas, in Earth-years, if the average radius of its orbit is 2.77 AU. Use the value of the Kepler’s constant expressed in the units of yr^2/AU^3 and the formula T^2 = Cr^3.."
My first thought was that it'd be simple enough, just substitute the values. I need to know the orbital period so T so I should be able to plug in the values and go from there but I must be missing something.
Perhaps I'm just tired but I feel as if I'd need one more piece of information. C is supposed to be Keplar's constant quite obviously which varies based on the object. It appears I don't need to manipulate the equation since I'm trying to determine T as it is, but all I can substitute is T^2 = C( 2.77 AU^3). In this case, what value would I put in place of C to determine the equation?
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoHow would I express this in proper scientific notation?
Fg =mg (70kg)(0.27 N/kg) = 18.9 N.
I've determined the answer but I don't fully understand how scientific notation works. An example would be, 5.98*10^24 which would be Earth's mass.
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoI have this question I'm uncertain about. It's simple but pertains to gravity and physics?
Hello there, I will start off by stating that I'm fully aware I posted a statement with a question mark. Moving on. The question goes as such, " b) Write out a proportionality relationship showing how g relates to m ( 2marks)"
This is a simple enough question but it does not state in the text what in God's name it refers to. I can only assume m = mass and g = Force of gravity which only shows up in my book as Fg. Do you think this is what they're referring to? Also, I'm aware you don't have the materials I have; however I'm simply asking opinion more than anything else. Thanks again for all the help people.
