  • Requesting first-hand experience of universal healthcare pros and cons. Does Bernie Sanders have the right approach?

As you may have heard by now, we have a Social Democrat running for the Presidency in the United States. I was wondering if some foreigners might be able to shed some light on the subject of universal healthcare. Now I understand that pretty much every other advanced nation on the planet offers a national healthcare of sorts so we are the odd ones out in the scenario. For all my life, I've been told how great the Americn healthcare system was and people traveled from all over the world just to see our doctors. Of course, this isn't really true and our system is severely lacking and has the distinct honor of being the most expensive as well. I think we should adopt a Medicare-for-all system but trying to convince others has proved troublesome. So I'm trying to get straight answers from folks who live in countries with such systems. My questions are as follows:

    1. Do you still incorporate a private insurance option to ensure quicker access? How do you incentivize people to purchase it? Do you offer a subsidy or tax break?

    2. Is rationing a serious issue or just propaganda drummed up by our pharmaceutical lobby? Are there excessive wait times and citizens unable to access healthcare?

    3. Is the quality of care at an adequate level? Are there enough doctors? Are prescriptions affordable?

So if you happen to be seeing this in Canada, Austrialia, Scandinavia, or anywhere else, I would appreciate it if you could share your knowledge on the subject. Much thanks!!

  • Questions about single-payer healthcare?

Having done my research on differences between the current healthcare system in place in the USA and countries with single-payer, I'm certain that this country needs to adapt the practice. It's more cost effective and everyone gets healthcare, win-win. So the main arguments against it are usually cries about excessive wait times and being unable to get needed surgery. Now, from what I understand, the only wait time involved for surgery would be for elective procedures. I would really like to hear from people who currently, or have at some point, lived in a country with this system. What are your gripes about it? I really am having trouble seeing a negative side here

  • Why is the term "Socialism" almost taboo in the United States?

Growing up and hearing about Socialism I likened it to communism and was taught that socialists take your freedom away. After learning about it and seeing other countries thrive on such a system I find myself wondering why Americans think it to be such an atrocity. I can only guess as to why that is, prolly thought making us fear it would ensure no system ever exists here. Can anyone enlighten me here?

  • To Keep or not to Keep, that is the question?

Hey folks, I've got a bit of a dilemma and I was hoping to get some advice. My keeper league allows us to keep up to 5 players, I am have decided on 4, Kershaw @RD2, Goldscmidt @RD3, Darvish @RD10, and Encarnacion @RD23. My last spot will be reserved for either Joey Votto @RD1 or Billy Hamilton @RD26. Now obviously Votto is the better player but with fantasy baseball it's all about getting value. I see immense value in Hamilton at that late round, even though he would only realistically help me in one category. What would you do? I love me some Votto but I don't know if he warrants my first draft pick. I'll be picking 9th in a 10 team league, cats for hitters are AVG, HR, R, RBI, SB, and OPS.

  • Keeper Format issues? advice needed from Commissioners!?

okay so I am starting a 10 team H-H keeper league that is being comprised of teams from last year. The system I would like to use is 3-5 keepers, draft position decided by previous years draft order. Now the issue that I am running into is when teams have multiple players that were drafted in the same round. One team has 4 players that were drafted in the first round last year. Now I was going to just have it move to the corresponding pick but I don't think it is very fair to get someone like Jose Bautista in the 4th round, that's crazy value. So must there be a limit per round or is there anotehr way of dealing with this.

I am also torn on how to handle what I have begun calling "The Trout Dilemma." So if a player, say Mike Trout, was claimed off waivers last season and is obviously being kept, where does that player go in this years draft. He is the going Top 3, currently #1 overall and I just can't see it being fair that he would occupy the last pick in the draft for that lucky manager. So I was thinking maybe the 5th RD or possibly this year ADP+2, cause I still want to award the manager who picked him up but I don't want to give his team a more advantageous approach either. So if anyone has run into these kind of problems in the past I would much appreciate how to solve these issues.

  • Help with keepers for '13 fantasy baseball?

Okay guys I am in a 10 team league with 6x6 categories, the extra cata being OBP and QS. I actually won this league last year so I have a couple guys I'd like to hold onto. Here are the players worth keeping:

    Ryan Braun

    Clayton Kershaw

    Jose Bautista

    Joey Votto

    Justin Upton

    Adrian Beltre

    Matt Cain

    Aroldis Chapman

So I have to keep a minimum of 3 with a max of 5. I was pretty much set on keeping the top 4 listed. I like Cain but I think I can find better value with pitchers late. Is Beltre going to be solid again? Will Upton explode in Atlanta with his brother? Lmk what you think and who you would keep, thanks in advance.

  • Which players to keep for fantasy baseball team?

Okay so as the season approaches I have to lock in which players I want to keep, the rule is minimum 3 but no more than 5. I won last year so I want to max out and I have a bunch of intriguing options. Here is everyone worth keeping:

    Ryan Braun

    Joey Votto

    Adrian Beltre

    Jose Bautista

    Justin Upton

    Clayton Kershaw

    Matt Cain

So I was set on Braun, Votto, Bautista, Kershaw, and Cain but Beltre and Upton are both gonna go ahead of Cain and pitching is deep. So I am hoping to get some advice on this dilemma. Who would you keep?

  • Week 15 starting defense problem?

Okay I have both New England and Denver defenses. NE is facing SF and Denver is @BAL. What do you guys think, who would you start?

  • Week 15 RB options? Bell, Ridley, Brown?

I have Doug Martin so my other RB slot will be either J Bell, Ridley, or Bryce Brown. Brown amazed for 2 weeks but last week he disappointed and has a quick turnaround on Thurs with Cincinnati. Ridley usually underwhelms and gets SF, yay? Bell has been surprising and goes vs Arizona who just got demolished in Seattle but that was more the offenses fault. Lmk what you think, is a PPR.

  • Week 15 conundrum, who to start?

Ok so first off, would you start Bryce brown Thursday against the Bengals? I was really high on this kid but he killed me on Sunday.

I also have 2 defenses. NE and SF, of course they are playing each other next week. I'm torn, lmk. Thanks

  • Fantasy QB? Start Cam Newton or Colin Kaepernick?

Both guys are facing poor defenses and I am torn on who to start. Both are young and dynamic athletes with big potential. Kaepernick has the better team but who would you start and why?

  • Do walks/stolen bases count towards total bases? 6X6 Suggestions?

Trying to extend my 5X5 league to 6X6 but having trouble deciding on the final cats. I was leaning towards OBP. to help out players who walk but then I thought of total bases. This would essentailly cover that and help out doubles hitters and XBH. However, if stolen bases are included in this I might not like it since SB is already a cat and that would essentially double speedsters' values. Also if you have any suggestions for the pitching side. We have W/K/SV/ERA/WHIP and I was looking at Quality Starts as a decent option to assist good pitchers on bad teams. Was gonna go K/9 or K/BB but that is sorta overlapping. So if you have any suggestions or can answer the total bases question plase let me know, Thanks

  • Chances of Matt Moore getting called up when rosters expand?

Got pretty lucky last year when I scooped up Hellickson in September. Thinking along the same lines only for the prospect phenom Matt Moore for this year. Now I know that the Rays are pretty strict with their prospects but I'm trying to measure whether or not adding him would be a wise move. Obviously I'm not in a keeper league, just a 10 Team H-H. Is anyone else gonna take a shot at this guy? His stuff his unreal, incredible K/9 rate. Also, would he be inserted into the rotation or help out in the bullpen? Thanks for the input.

Got one empty DL slot, who do you like better and why?

  • Brett Anderson or Johan Santana?

Which pitcher is more likely to return this season and contribute to a fantasy team? I am always weary of a pitcher coming back from shoulder surgery but it looked like Anderson needed TJ for sure. I have both these guys sitting in my DL slots but unfortunately ARod managed to tear his meniscus so I have the need to drop one of these pitchers. Any ideas? Better options?

  • Jose Contreras not closing anymore?

Hey guys, i have Contreras on my team and he has been solid so far. I have noticed however that the last 2 save opportunities that the Phillies had were handled by Ryan Madson. Did something happen to Contreras? Did he get demoted or was this just a rare opportunity for Madson? Obviously not gonna hold onto him unless he's closing. Thanks in advance!

  • Info on Brandon Phillips?

So I have been scouring my league for a possible trade at second base. i originally waiting way late in the draft and took a chance on Ryan Raburn but his playing time has become an issue with brennan Boesch back in the picture. So I was thinking of offering a trade for Brandon Phillips as the other team had Neil Walker as well but is chossing not to play Phillips. I was looking at Phillips career numbers and noticed that last year he had a decrease in nearly all his numbers 2009 .276/20/98 and 25 SB but last year he batted .275/18/59! and only 16 SB. However, I also realize that he scored 100 runs last year compared to 78 the previous. He wasn't hurt as he played in 155 G but Cincy was good last year. So I am assuming that he is just batting higher in the order but as I do not really follow the Reds I was wondering what happened there? Does he normally have see-saw seasons? If so, he should be real good this year.
