What conditions cause cloud-ground lightning strikes to intensify during a thunderstorm?
In western Arkansas last night were very visible cloud-ground lightning strikes. There were a lot, I would estimate that I saw an average of 10 a minute last night from 8:15 until 10:30. If I weren't in summer school, I would have stayed up later. The conditions continued for until midnight. I personally have never seen that many ground-cloud lightning strikes and I was wondering what caused this intensification in this situation or one similar? I also do not know if this is a large number for cloud-ground lightning strikes but I have never seen that many. We were in the convergence of two cells.
2 AnswersWeather9 years agoCan anyone explain to me how an eReader works?
I was wondering if I order an eReader from one company, say Amazon or Kobo, will their selection of books be different from another eReader company? Or is it all the same library?
E.g. I want Martin Walker's The Cold War: A History. I search in the library on the Kobo and it is not there while I search on the Amazon website and there it is. Can this happen?
1 AnswerBooks & Authors9 years agoHow much do you believe in the cliche "follow your heart when deciding a major"?
The only reason I am asking this is because currently I am on the road to graduating with an engineering degree and while that may be cool to some, it is definitely not as exciting as other subjects to me. I really enjoy history/international relations but I know that the job market is not great and that a college professor in international security is not in demand. Some people have told me to "follow your heart" (very cliche, I know) and the rest will fold out if you have a passion for your major. I am already 1 1/2 years into engineering and I was wondering if I should stay in engineering and get a very marketable degree or switch to history and have a very low chance of getting a job?
* I am asking this question because I have 2 scholarships that will end in 2 1/2 years and these scholarships pay for my schooling. After that, I would probably have to pay for it out of my own pocket, which I would like to avoid
Any input is appreciated

This may be a dumb question...
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoCan anyone suggest what my major could be if I enjoy these characteristics?
* I have tried a lot of websites that suggest a college major based on your interest, but none of them have assisted me in developing a closer understanding to what my characteristics would best suit me to do.
My interests are:
Learning the current events that shape the development of world politics/economy/culture
Learning past development of world politics/economy/culture
Looking up random information that I did not know before
My characteristics are:
Determination to get the job done
A will to do something meaningful
A will to effect people's lives
** I know this question is vague but any help is appreciated

6 AnswersProgramming & Design10 years agoWhenever I click on a search item such as on Google, the page immediately jumps to an advertisement instead.?
How do I fix this problem?
I'll go to Google and type in something like "quotes from the office" and when I click on one of the links, it takes me straight to an advertisement site and not the site I wished to go to
3 AnswersGoogle10 years agoWhat is a tv show I would I like if my two favorite shows are House and Psych?
I've already tried "Bones" and I don't like it so don't suggest that one. I only point that out because that was the highest suggestion for me on Netflix
5 AnswersDrama10 years agoHow do I get a piece of code to repeat itself again in Microsoft Excel, Visual Basic?
I have values entered in cell B9 that is used in a formula that is calculated to be in cell C9. That C9 value is subtracted from a value in another place and gets the value in D9. This D9 value is subtracted from B9 to get the value in E9.
My question is how do I get the value in E9 to be the value in B10 and repeat the algorithmic steps shown above? This value will eventually be 0, that's just how the formula works.
If this is badly worded, send me a message..
1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoHow do I create a x vs y graph on Microsoft Word?
I need to make a capacitance vs. inverse separation graph. I make 2 columns of data in Excel and try to convert it to a one-line line graph but it turns the y-axis to a range of 0%-100% which is not what I want. I want the y-axis to read capacitance and the x-axis to read inverse separation. The line is to be the relationship between the two. How do I do this?
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoHow do I filter three columns of data within an Excel spreadsheet?
Here's the situation: I have 3 categories that I want to sort through. The first column (Column A) needs to be alphabetical, the second column (Column B) needs to be in descending order, and the third column (Column C) needs to be in descending order as well. How can I apply a filter to A and B without the filter at B not removing what A did to the spreadsheet?
*** This is all in Excel 2010
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoHow do I compare two columns in Microsoft Excel to report a the comparisons in a third column?
I have two columns of if functions and they report whether or not a criterion is TRUE or FALSE. How do I create a formula that allows me to report TRUE if both columns have TRUE? If even one of the two columns has a FALSE, how do I report it as false? ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoHow do I find the magnitude of the linear acceleration in this physics problem?
Here is the problem, and I'm confused on how to find the magnitude of the linear acceleration.
A 5kg block is placed on a smooth surface. A light string is attached to it, and placed over a solid, uniform, 500g pulley of radius R = 10cm. An identical block hangs from the end of the string. The string, being magic physics string, does not slip on the pulley, nor does it stretch.
I'm guessing it has something to do with these equations.
the sum of the torques is 0.
torque is radius times force (tension force in this problem.
To tell the truth, I have no idea how to solve this...

I want to play college tennis but I need to know what kind of body I should build for playing college tennis? If this helps, (which I doubt it does) I am 156 lbs, 6'1", lift 160 on bench, and play tennis 4 hours a day if weather or classes permit). The more specific the more helpful. Any insightful answer is helpful

I eat the erasers on my pencils (don't ask why) and I am beginning to worry whether that poses as a bad health problem. I don't feel weird or anything just curious. It was probably one eraser for every day I was in school
