  • Time for Album Review Time?!?

Album of the day is Machine Head's 'Unto the Locust':

Feels like a return to more classic metal; I can feel the spirits of old Van Halen, Metallica, Maiden in Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel's guitar work. Quite a few of the songs incorporate a very anti-climactic element: on 'This is the End, the conventional-type breakdown gives you that familiar moshpit feeling; the quiet before the hurricane; the still, swelling brutality......that doesn't quite hit so hard. Funny thing is, I appreciate it, it works wonderfully. Lyrics are full of fire, and anyone wouldn't enjoy singing them. Adam Duce is right where he needs to be with the bass, adding depth that is unmistakeable. Dave McClain has never been better on drums, with licks and double kick anger that rival 'The Blackening'. I found the stylistic high point to be the Deluxe Edition's covers of Judas Priest's 'The Sentinel' and Rush's 'With Hunt'. Both are very nicely reimagined versions of the original, with the Machine Head touch and, conceptually, is gold.

All in all, a GREAT album, highly recommended!

What do you think? Like or dislike, give it a whirl!

It's about cars, and there's a line that reads "miss the mark, Pierce the dark, flash by! Another two try." It described the headlight beams as jousting lances.
