I'm full of useless information! I like people-watching, drawing, poetry, writing things (does not include essays), photoshopping, browsing odd websites, watching decent films, reading good books, hanging out with my mates, being a veggie, shouting animal rights related slogans at people, drinking copious amounts of lager, bourbon and whisky, singing along loudly and with utmost conviction to anything and everything (and I mean LOUDLY) and many other joyful things :D
How do I Keep Foxes Away from my Pet Buns?
Since moving house, and keeping our buns on the patio, we've had some minor fox issues; the usual pooping around the patio etc, and I'm after a few tips to keep the pesky things out since tonight I had a bit of a scare. Overheard a banging over the TV, thought it was the neighbours, went outside and there was a fox right up near the rabbit run. The buns were in their nighttime higher level hutch but were banging and crying like crazy. Even my tough nut guinea pig was singing (not normal!) so they were obviously upset. They're still banging intermittently but have settled down with their supper now. I have just liberally sprayed citronella spray around to try and deter the fox, and give the buns a smell they know (use it as fly deterrent) but I would like some tips to keep the pesky things away.
We live in the UK by the way.
Thanks in advance!
1 AnswerOther - Pets10 years agoHow Can I Get My Rabbit to Gain Weight Safely?
Hi, I need some help with getting my rabbit to safely gain weight.
She's a lion-lop, four months old, and recently spayed (due to a health problem- which I'll explain) but she's lighter than her sister -exactly the same age, spayed too etc- and you can feel every one of her vertebrae when you stroke her.
She has snuffles (pasturella), but the vet has it under control- we know she'll never be entirely free of the bacteria, but she is living a good quality of life. She was spayed last week, as the vets found an abscess on her liver and decided to do both procedures at once, just so she doesn't have to go through two surgeries in short succession. The vet thinks her abscess may have been in her since she was a baby, but we only found it when it was very large. She didn't have much of an appetite following her surgery, which is normal for most mammals, including her sister, but now I've finally got her interested in food again. She's enjoying fresh veggies, pellets and hay but I'm concerned that she feels (and looks post op shaving) so scrawny.
Is there any food I should be supplying her with to help her gain a little bit of weight to keep her warm and pad over her joints? I don't want an obese bun, but I would like her to keep level with her sister's weight. The healthy sister weighs in at around 2kg, and my recently op'ed bun weighs approximately 1.8kg we think. I know that's not much of a difference, but I'd like them to keep parity.
She likes bananas and apples, has oats in her food once or twice a week (2 tbs in the shared food bowl), doesn't like carrots, and they both have Woodlands Alfalfa bales nearly every day. They have a pile of meadow hay in their house at all times, plenty of water in a bowl and a drinker, and get fed once in the morning at 7.30am and once at night at around 6.30pm. Their usual meal (shared between them) is 4 tbs of pellets and 2 of muesli with some linseed and Vetark Pro-C (and the occasional oats) sprinkled on top.
If anyone has any tips on what to give her, please feel free to share your experiences!
2 AnswersOther - Pets1 decade agoIs it time to spay my female rabbit?
Quick back-story; we have had our rabbits (both girls, and litter-mates) for a few weeks now, and were told when we bought them that they were around 7 weeks old. When I took them to the vet for a checkup, she told me that they were probably closer to 10/12 weeks. The person who sold me them didn't have an exact date of birth, so I assume that they were born mid-December.
Ok, so the problem has begun this week. My larger bunny (she weighs 200g more and is a bit longer/taller) has taken to chasing her sister around the indoor pen, headbutting and nipping at her. I thought she was just asserting her dominance as alpha bun, but today she began mounting her sister! Obviously my partner and I got a bit worried and separated them out to separate sides of the pen, and we grabbed big bunny and checked her bits just in case we'd been wrongly informed (twice) that she was a girl. No boy bits were apparent, so we're assuming we're safe. She's also been digging, scratching and chewing a lot more. She also nips at me (female) when I put their food bowl in the hutch, but never nips my (male) partner. Is this territorial aggression or food aggression? She hasn't learnt that biting gains a reward, so I think it might be something to do with her impending sexual maturity?
Now if they are around 10/12 weeks (3 months roughly) should they be ready for spaying soon? I was told that around 4 months they reach sexual maturity, so then we should spay them.
The main body of the question is thus: does the yahoo answers community think that bigger bunny may have matured earlier than her sister, who, for the record has had the snuffles (pasturellosis) for the last week and has been eating less. I have to take the little bunny for a checkup on Monday, so should I enquire about making a spay appointment for her big sister?
Thanks!

5 AnswersOther - Pets1 decade agoBaby Showers?
Ok people, I need to know how to throw a baby shower- stat!
One of my best friend's sisters is having a little baba (found out on Fri she'll be a girlie) and we promised we'd throw her a baby shower.
The only problems are:
1) We're English and these American customs are strange to us.
2) None of us has ever had a kid so we have no idea what we're doing.
3) We're terrified we're gonna mess something up and ruin her day!
Someone help me, please!

Thanks a bunch
9 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoCan my iPod Mini "go backwards"?
Hi all!
I have an old iPod mini (bought about three years ago when it was still "hi tech" :D) which I used to use my old laptop to load with music. My old laptop nuked itself, including every song I had on there (and that was a hell of a lot, nearly used up all 8Gb on my iPod!), so I got a new laptop... long story short, can I attach my iPod to my new laptop with iTunes and get the music off the iPod onto the PC? Or will this just wipe the iPod and put the few songs on the PC on there?
My iPod is the only place I have loads of songs from CDs I borrowed from friends at Uni I don't see any more, so I really REALLY don't want to lose them!
Thanks in advance, will vote a best answer!
3 AnswersMusic & Music Players1 decade agoWomen in Comic Books: Your Opinions?
Hi all, I'm currently in the process of writing a project for my final year of university that's to do with the representation of women in comic books.
I've run out of "real life" (parents, friends etc) to ask, so I thought I'd take my research online to you "virtual" people :D
My area of research as I said, is the representation of women in comic books, so if anyone has any opinions etc on how women are portrayed in this particular mass medium, I'd love to know!
Thanks in advance y'all!
Note: I only want COMIC BOOK related answers; no TV show, comic strip, magazine, film, film of a comic book (eg. "Jean Gray from Xmen film was mega hot"), or anything else!
~thanks!
14 AnswersComics & Animation1 decade agoHoliday to Tunisia: Will I Need Vaccinations?
Hi all, my other half and I are looking to go to Tunisia in March, and as is my womanly prerogative, I'm doing lots of research. :D
The only thing that worries me though is that wiki-travel (yes, I know, wikipedia is life etc) says you need vaccinations for yellow fever, hep a and b, typhoid and polio...
As a British citizen, born in the 1980s, what's the chances of me having any of these already, and will I need to get us to the doctors for a vaccination?
Any help greatly appreciated! I WILL give a best answer!
Thanks so much.
