I'm 44, a carpenter, and have many compulsive addictive tendancies I've been both battling and nurturing all my life. I was a jock/stoner and dreamed of being a basketball player or a rock star. Instead, I became a computer tech for 6 years 82'-88'. Then, a carpenter ever since. I have a very high IQ and yet I'm so very, very dumb. I'm an artist, deep-down. A romantic, lover(not a fighter). At 6'-4", I'm secure enough not to have to act all-macho. It seems, though, that something's going on inside that keeps me in constant pursuit of self-destruction.

  • Why would someone just not say anything and leave? I'm straight and yet I feel like a jilted lover ...?

I'm a 50 yr. old guy living with my common-law wife and there's a guy who was like my brother. People always asked if we were and some wouldn't believe we weren't. Very similar looking. We worked together 10years ago for 4 years then he moved an hour away and I hardly saw him. A year ago he showed up and we reconnected and he was here everyday, we worked as a partnership. Only twice did I not see him for a whole day. Never two days in a row was he absent. We were very close as far as straight guys can be. One day he was gone for 2 days in a row. Then 3 days then 4. It got to be I was afraid to know because it could only be jail or dead. I checked county inmate search, hospitals, etc. My wife loved him as much as I did and she finally made me call his mom's where he'd been staying. "oh, he's in (some town). Didn't he tell you? He said he was going over to tell you." The last time he came by we played darts and he said he had to go eat like every other day. He shook my hand and we said later. I texted him and left voice mails, nothing. I even said (my wife) needs to know that you're alive so just text you're ok. Nothing. I found out he was ok. I'm glad but feel kind of weird. what's this about?

  • A question about early viet nam marines being deployed 'unofficially'...?

A friend of mine's Dad told my friend he was a military advisor at the age of 17 after he graduated the san diego boot camp and because he got high scores with rifle shooting he was 1 of 45 guys who were sent over there in 1959. He said he would go off in the jungle by himself for days and collect poeples ears which he kept on a string hooked to his belt. He said only 2 of the 45 guys came back. He was debriefed until he 'could say the right answers' to questions they kept asking. He said he kept in touch with the other guy who returned until he died a few years back. He was given a choice when he got in trouble at 16 and he could go to jail or go in the service. His sister had to sign for him cause his folks were dead. Could any of this be true?

  • How about ankle bracelets for immigrant refugees until they can be vetted as not being a threat?

Perhaps even a 2 year program where they can submit to chip placement and computers keeping track of their movements and probational checks made mandatory. Violators exiled and/or ankle bracelets replaced with shock collars.

  • Will it hurt to ream out the adjustment slotted bolt hole to get the distributor to turn just a little more?

It's a 91 civic wagon w/ 1.5 Manual and I read this thing that refers to the bottom bolt hole possibly letting me turn it further also. What will happen if I do this?

  • Should I let it go, or call the police? My mom died last month. I was POD on her $60k CD account. It was money she'd been handed down from?

her mom (my grandma). When I took the death certificate to the bank I got some funny looks (if not guilty looks)from the personal banker who told me there is now an added name to the account and he would have to also die. I confronted my step-dad and found he had added his name to her account a month before her death. He says it was because he needed to get some money up to have her put in a home (which he never did). He was aware of how to go about getting money from this account as he'd pressured her to dip-in to the account prviously for $35k to pay off my mom's and his rental. At that time he had also added his name to that deed and now I get nothing from that even though my mom bought it before they married and before he married her he had her sign a pre-nupt securing his money for his kids. He told my sister he wanted some of the CD account to pay for his services and not putting my mom in a home 5 years ago (she had 3 strokes before dying of breast cancer). My mom trusted that that CD account, or at least what was left of it would go to me. I left a message on his phone that since he had all the power and control would $20k be enough for him and the rest split with my sister and I ($20k each). I said I'd give him to the end of that day and then I'd go to the police to contest the signature that allowed his name to be added. My mom could not have physically signed anything for the last 6 months she was alive. I'm screwed out of $10k and 25% of that rental.

  • If mom owned stocks worth 40k, does the beneficiary of that account owe taxes on it? Also, is it transferred or inherited if:?

The stocks were simply cashed-out when the beneficiary called the company to report the death. The company rep simply said sorry for the loss and would cut a check next week. The money in the form of a check was what was inherited? Or the stocks and their value? Either way, does this fall under inheritance and/or income and how is it taxed, and can anything be done to write some of it off (like home improvements, and what if the home's not in your name). I'm going to get a tax guy to talk to, but meanwhile Dec.31 is getting close.

  • If some people are so good at YA that they can answer 5000 questions and have 90% best answers,?

why wouldn't they want to show others how good their answers are? Why would people keep their answers private? It's just their opinions and they should shed some light to the great knowledge they have to be so productive at getting 10's of thousands of points. Why not show how? What could be the advantage of keeping it private?

  • If I can't remember my acer hard drive's password and it keeps locking me out will it do any good to?

...remove the hard drive and attempt to hook it up to one of those ribbon-cable do-dads? The reason I ask is I need to go buy one first at Fryes but will it still require me to enter a password? I spilled a pepsi on the keyboard and immediately unplugged it, powered-off, then removed the battery, but it was apparently too late as my keyboard's #2 won't work. I hooked up a usb keyboard and it just says password incorrect and halts. I think I may have changed the password awhile back but also disabled the need for a password for the hard drive on soft reboot. I hadn't been asked for it for so long I kept entering the old one (1,2,3,4,5,6) but it always entered 1,3,4,5,6 and by the time I hooked up another keyboard I think it had locked me out. I tried F8 and f11 and f2 but it says there's not a bootable device there. Any suggestions? Oh yeah-It's a acer one d255 with windows 7 starter (no cdrom). Thanks, in advance, to anyone who bothered to get through this lengthy post.

  • can someone help me figure out this guitar wiring?

I have a Harmony 802. There are 2 pickups with one red wire coming from each. This red wire has a red and white and bare wire inside. Both reds have come loose and one closest to neck has the white wire hanging loose. The other white seems to be twisted together with the other two bare wires and they go down to the vol. or tone? left side. (always from the back of the potentiometer-left,middle,right). It also gets soldered to the back of the pot and continues down to the tone potleft side and soldered to back of it and continues down to the plug. I'm assuming these are grounds. The first pot(vol)has a yellow wire from the right side up to the right side of the top one of my mini-switches which are my pickup select switches. They are two 2- position slide switches. The top one's middle lead also has a short bare wire going to the bottom's right

    lead.

I found similar layouts with you except I don't have any toggle switch. The two pots also have their two middles soldered together and the top one (vol)'s middle also goes to another lead on the plug. So basically I'm set except for where the 2 reds go to on the switches. The other white I think also ties into the grounds. I'm pretty sure one of these little red wires goes to the other switches middle lead (since there's solder blob on it) which one?? and the other red ? Two red wires basically. Any ideas.?

  • how much money did Mike Tomlin's little stunt cost Las Vegas?

Vegas had the Ravens favored by 3 points and they only won by 2 points (22-20). The touchdown Tomlin prevented would have kept the Steelers from covering the spread because the final score would have been 26-20. If the NFL awards the points later when the draft picks are levied through tie-breakers and what-not, does Vegas get their money back from the betters who profited from Tomlin's action? The gambling public should be sending Tomlin a cut to pay his fine. Once again the NFL refs show how powerful they're action or in-actions can be.

  • How has drugs influenced today's music?

Sure Van Gogh had absenth, and Poe had his codeinne, Freud his cocainne, and the beatniks paved the way for us, but look at the late 60's music development after acid hit the mainstream and psychedelics became more of a doorway to innovation and creativity. The mild marijuana was stepped up to higher-grade(literally). I was high everyday in high school and viewed this as normal for the late 70's. Take Beck, for example, how could his music not have been influenced by him doing drugs. I can't imagine any of the great musicians being totally abstinent. Am I wrong?
