I love figure skating and started as a child:) My mother took me skating for the first time when I was about 4 and have skated off and on ever since!! I gave up the competitive side of it awhile ago when looking into college etc. and really missed it, the few times that I did go with friends during winter breaks wasn't cutting it, so I jumped back in with both feet!! I take it much more seriously now as an adult and have a fantastic coach who pushes me soooo much!!! I aspire to one day perhaps be a coach too more for children as I love working with kids too:) I love animals, reading, movies, music, dancing!!!!

  • My skates seem to be a tad bit loose....?

I bought new boots and blades last summer and I absolutely love them, however I have noticed over the past month or so they seem to have become a bit loose; not so loose that I feel as though I'm tripping over myself but I have noticed that I need to tighten them more than I used to. I have also lost a bit of weight, so I know that can affect their fit. Is there anything I can do to make them feel tighter? I really don't want to buy a new pair of boots as these definitely have a lot of life left in them. Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

  • I got my skates sharpened?

Ok, so I got my skates sharpened at the usual place I've been going to. They have different levels of sharpening depending upon your level of ability. Now, because I had a horrible day and arrived somewhat flustered, I got them sharpened at a level that is above the level I usually get them sharpened at....lets put it this way, I usually get them sharpened at a level that is for Beginning Double jumps, but because I had an extremely off day, I had them sharpened at the level ABOVE, which is double/ beginning triple jumps. Ahhh!!! I haven't skated in them yet, but plan on it tomorrow morning. My question is, will they be too severely sharpened for what I usually get? Thanks guys:) I still can't believe that I did this LOL:)

  • Advice on skate spinners...what do you think?

So the thought of buying a spinner has tempted me for about a year now...and I am wondering if it really helps with your spins/balance and overall technique on ice? I've heard both good and bad things about them such as they are very difficult to use and do not feel the same as when one is spinning on ice. I would love to try one out before I purchase one but unfortunately I don't know anyone who uses one. Any info/recommendation would be greatly appreciated:) Thank you in advance!!

  • Advice on more height for jumps?

I really need any advice/tips for getting more height on my jumps:) I recently bough new skates and I have to say that I absolutely LOVE them!! I have found that the upgrade in blades from a Coronation Ace to the MK Vision has been awesome as the toepick is much bigger, where as I have found that even my simple Waltz jump has improved with height, but I still would like to get my other jumps higher. Any tips or advice on how to improve my jump height would be graciously appreciated:) Thank you in advance!!

  • I need help with my spiral!!!?

One thing I have worked on, (what feels like forever LOL) is my spiral. I am pretty flexible and can do a split but my spiral height is just ok, its higher than my hip level and my catch spiral is pretty good, but I would LOVE to get my free leg higher. Does anyone have any tips on strengthening exercises for my leg/back and/or any spiral tips to get my free leg higher? Another thing I just CAN'T do is a Beillman, and I'm thinking that this is because I do not have the back and arm flexibility for it...any and all tips would be GREATLY appreciated:)

  • What level of difficulty do you think the single flip jump is?

I was discussing this one of my friends at the rink earlier today:) I am really curious as to what you might think; I thought it was easier than the loop but that's just my opinion....

  • Does anyone have some good off-ice stretching exercises for improved spirals?

I stretch almost everyday to improve my flexibility and I've found myself to have become very flexible over the past year. However, I have found that my spirals are okay but definitely not as high as I know I'm flexibly capable of; (I can do a split). I've tried some lower back strengthening exercises but am not sure if these are really helping...if anyone has any tips or exercises they would be GREATLY appreciated:)

  • I need help breaking in my new figure skates!!?

I recently bought Jackson Elite boots with MK Vision blades. This is coming from Riedell 900 series (very old!!) with a John Wilson Coronation Ace blade. I skate about 4 to 5 times a week but am getting very frustrated as I still do not feel comfortable yet to perform any jumps or spins. Is this normal and how long should it approximately take for me to be able to jump/spin again? I haven't broken in boots in a long time as I skated competitively and stopped for a few years to have picked it up again about a year ago. Thank you for any and all suggestions/help:)
