  • How much vacuum should a 2.3L 1984 Ford Ranger have?

I need to test to see if I have enough vacuum to run the accelerator pump on the YFA carburetor. The engine is running rich, and I'm afraid that there may be a leak at the intake manifold. Does anyone know how many inches of vacuum this application should have?

  • What could be causing this steering / brake problem on my 2001 GMC Jimmy?

When I turn the steering wheel to the left, regardless of whether the vehicle is moving or stationary, the wheel will suddenly become hard to turn, like something is binding up in the column. When this happens, the brake pedal also becomes stiff for just a second. Then, if I keep putting pressure on the wheel to try to force it to go ahead and turn, a loud popping sound can be heard on farther down the column (like a "clunk"), and simultaneously both the wheel and the brake pedal will then move freely. What could be causing the hangup in both the steering column and with the brake pedal?

Note: Even when the pedal becomes stiff, the brakes still function fine, and will still halt the car. This does not occur when you turn to the right. Also, it seems like it happens in approximately the same area in the turning radius (possibly 30 degrees left of center), but I can't say for certain. When it acts like it is binding up, there is also a bit of creaking noise from or inside of the plastic pieces that cover the steering column.

  • Why does my browser redirect my page?

I have a Windows OS, and am running IE with AVG free for an antivirus. While browsing the net on different (reliably safe) pages such as yahoo news or weather.com, I am suddently redirected to a "Dell Search Page" with an error message that says

"Sorry, we couldn't find http://sm.nexac.com/dpi/data%3Fpid%3D1. Here are some related websites: "

Why does this come up, what is causing it, and how do I make it stop?

  • Which stand-up comic told this joke?

I think it aired on Comedy Central Presents, but I'm not sure. It was a male comedian who talked about men being portrayed as idiots in advertisements. He said there would be a woman saying "my husband is soooo stupid" and behind her they'd show her husband, all tangled up in the blinds.

It was a funny clip, but I can't recall who the comedian was. I already searched for it by keyword on Comedy Central's website and on Google, but haven't found any leads. I'd kind of like to watch that one again, so if you know AND can find a link to the clip somewhere, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Who fills a vacancy in a U.S. lieutenant governor's office?

If a United States governor resigns, and the lieutenant governor fills their position, who fills the lieutenant governor vacancy? Who would take the position of governor of the state if the replacement also resigned?

  • What equation do I use and how can I solve this?

A chord cuts through a circle (the diameter of the circle is 35"); the area of the minor segment created by that chord is 1/4th the area of the entire circle. Point M is the midway point on the chord. If you draw a line perpendicular to the original chord that goes from point M until it touches the edge of the circle (on the minor arc rather than the major) and call that line H, what is the length, then, of line H in inches?

This is not a homework problem, and I've never understood advanced math. I'm just helping a buddy with a construction project. Please answer the question as plainly and bluntly as possible. We've poured over trig books and calc books trying to figure this out, but we can't find an equation that helps, and it seems that we have too many unknowns. Any help? Please?

  • Do-It-Yourselfer with really tough question?

You have a water tank that is shaped like a right circular cylinder laying down on its side so that the two ends of the tank are circles, and the tank is longer than it is wide. The diameter of the tank is 35". If you make a dipstick for this water tank, the half-full mark will be 17.5" up from the bottom of the dipstick. How far from the bottom of the dipstick (or the bottom of the tank, for that matter) will the tank be one-quarter full (1/4 of liquid volume)??

  • Know where I can find rubber seals around windows?

I've been remodeling an old one-axle camping trailer. It has the windows that have four or five rectangular Plexiglas slats, and when you turn a hand crank, it tilts the slats and opens the windows. Well, I've been having quite a bit of water leaking through the window, and I'm looking to replace the small rubber trim that goes around the edge of the window and seals it when the window is closed.

The best that I can describe this trim is that it is quite narrow, and there is a sort of c-shaped track that these rubber strips run through. So the rubber strips themselves are kind of H shaped (if you're looking at one end of the strip) and are about a foot long each. I've searched and searched on the net for something, but it seems like it's too old of a style to be found now. Has anyone run across a window seal like this (they were even quite popular on older mobile homes with a similar style of window)? Do you know where I can find such a seal?

  • Recommendations for chronic foot pain

What are your recommendations for an individual who is in her 50s and is experiencing foot pain associated with aging? She's been to a doctor, but he has only given her pain relievers and told her that it is something she'll have to live with. Do you know of any foot rubs, creams, massagers, or foot baths that have helped you or someone you know with foot pain? (Shoe insoles or different shoes do NOT help her; her feet will hurt even if she has been off of them almost all day.) Are there also any dietary changes that she could make to help naturally reduce the discomfort? Your help or any information that you have would be greatly appreciated. I've tried asking in many other sections, but haven't gotten much information.

  • Metric and Standard Measurements questions

From grade school on, students are taught to use conversion devices. We all know how many feet make up a kilometer and can convert celcius to fehrenheit, watts to joules. What about the more relative and rarely-used units of measure, like the notorious "butt load" and the "schit-ton"? Are those considered standard or metric units of measure? Can anyone more succinctly define these measurements in terms of specific mass or weight? I'd love to hear your take on the matter.

  • Looking for personal reviews of the "Back2Life" machine...?

I've been considering getting one, but the commercials really make it sound too good to be true. At $200, it's a lot of money to be spent if the gizmo doesn't work. Has anyone tried one? What kind of results did you have, if any? Are there any hidden expenses?

  • Transmission problems on 95 'stang --- really could use some help!?

I've got a '95 3.8 A/T. It goes out of gear when driving over about 40 or 50 mph seemingly at random (it will suddenly act like it is in neutral, and I have to coast back down to around 20 or 30 before I can accelerate again - pushing the gas before then revs the rpms but does not make it accelerate). We replaced the trans. range sensor, the filter and fluid, and have checked all of the grounds. When we hook up the computer scanner up to it, it goes through the test until it gets to the transmission checks, then quits the scan early with an error message that claims that the car is not in park or neutral - but it is. We didn't replace the cam position sensor yet because we thought that the car would most likely not even run well or long if that sensor was not working properly.

Can anyone suggest ANYTHING that we can check/replace that will at LEAST allow the scanner to complete the scan? And aside from that, what could be causing the transmission to act up at higher speeds?

  • Help for an individual with extreme social phobia?

How do you convince an individual with extreme social anxiety (not just your run-of-the-mill "I don't like being around people" type) -- a person who thinks everyone is lying to them to be nice and who thinks that they waste everyone's time and believes that he makes a fool of himself whenever he is around anyone -- to go to some kind of psychological therapy? I asked him if he would consider it - he spent the next fifteen minutes throwing up (from the anxiety) in the bathroom and crying that he just wanted to be left alone; he's 24 and extremely difficult to be around much of the time. He has indicated some levels of suicide ideation, but absolutely no intent to carry it out (ex. "(ex. "I'd be better off dead," or "God, I'm so stupid; I don't deserve to live").

  • Movement of fronts and weather patterns?

A front moving across the United States can affect wind speed, wind direction, temperature, and can lead to the formation of storms. I'm also aware that the movement of low pressure and high pressure cells can affect the weather. But what affects the direction and speed in which the fronts/pressure cells move? If you have a low pressure cell moving toward you, and spinning outward from it (like blades on a pinwheel) are a cold front line, a warm front line, and a mixed line, how can you tell where that cell will move and whether those fronts will continue moving?
