  • What are the differences between a mazurka and a half flip?

They look very similar based on some videos I have seen, only they seem to switch right to left and left to right. Here is what I think I have figured out. Will someone please check me and make any corrections? (all counter-clockwise rotation)

Mazurka--start on a right back outside edge

    pick in the left toe

    rotate 1/2 turn to forward

bunny hop with right toe pick

finish on left outside forward edge

    Half flip--do a left outside three-turn

(thus starting on left back inside edge)

    pick in the right toe

    rotate 1/2 turn to forward

bunny hop with left toe pick

    finish on right inside edge

  • What radius of hollow should rental skates use?

One of our local ice rinks sharpens its hockey skates to 1/2-inch ROH and its rec skates to 1-inch ROH. I'm good with the hockey skates; I question the safety of the rec skates.

According to all of my research online and by talking to people who sell, make, and sharpen skates for a living, almost no one should be skating on a 1-inch ROH. Very good skaters may use a 3/4-inch ROH (I know of two, and they're both heavy men who ice dance, read: don't jump). The ice at this rink is hard hockey ice, kept somewhere around 22°---not anywhere near the 26 - 28° recommended for figure skating.

Does anyone have any sources or professional training that would say beginners, including small children, should be skating with a 1-inch ROH? Or has my research led me correctly that the ice skates given to these recreational skaters should be sharpened to a deeper ROH? Please provide sources and personal qualifications, if you have any.

  • Updating email/contacting Yahoo! Answers?

I updated my email address with Y!A close to two weeks ago. I can see the new email address in my account details. However, I keep receiving emails to my old email address, not the new one. I posted the issue on the suggestion board under "report bugs" but shoot me if I can't find it now. (I have just posted a new one; hopefully that one will stay on.---but does anyone at Yahoo! actually read these or is it just another community help board?)

Any ideas? Is there any way to contact someone at Yahoo to clear up this problem?

  • Why aren't my questions posting to Yahoo! Answers?

I have recently asked a question three times (one about a week ago and two last night), and none has posted. There is no record of any question asked in "My Activities."

The question was regarding updating the email address on Y!A and was to be posted under Yahoo! Products and Computer Internet (other). I can't imagine that someone at Yahoo! reads all questions and found this one too disturbing to post as their system clearly is not working correctly.

I know I hit submit and saw each question in its initial posting. So, what could have happened to the questions?

  • Where can I see the MLB Home Run Derby?

Does ESPN replay the Derby or will it be available online somewhere? Not just highlights, the whole thing. I don't have MLB.tv or any other paid video service. Just basic cable and internet. Here's hoping someone knows where I can get it.

  • Have some Nats played out of uniform?

    Official MLB rules say:

1.11 (a) (2) Any part of an undershirt exposed to view shall be of a uniform solid color for all players on a team.

I've seen both Harper and Gonzalez wearing a grey undershirt with red trim. That breaks the "solid color" required by the rules, doesn't it? During the same game, other players have worn the solid red undershirts. Doesn't that break the "for all players on a team"?

How are the Nats getting away with this?

  • Official song for Indy 500?

Is there a song that everyone would recognize as the official song for the Indy 500? I have a solo in a show and have been working in appropriate songs for each day. Since Sunday is the race, I though I'd see what I could find. Otherwise, it's The Little Nash Rambler!

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Baseball scoring questions?

Okay, I know that there are as many ways to fill out a scorecard as there are people who score, but I'd like some ideas.

Is there a way to mark that a runner moved up on a throw?

Say someone hits a single to center. The center fielder throws home to get a guy at the plate. The man on first is then able to move up to second. Is there something put in the scorebook to mark this or do you simply move him up?

Also, how do you mark offensive interference, or any interference for that matter? I've seen to put INT; however, that doesn't explain what actually happened. Are there ways to do this?

One more---anyone know of a good, comprehensive resource for scoring? The only ones I could find are the basics.

  • Who won the Nats Racing Presidents on Tuesday?

Who won on Tuesday, April 9, 2013?

I know, total nerd, but I'm scoring the games and have a line for the winner of the presidents' race. Does anyone know a site that lists who won for each game so that if I miss one in the future I can look it up? The Nats site has yet to update the 2013 standings, even after I have contacted them about it.

  • Is this sari material?

My husband sent a length of material to me while he was in the Middle East. It looks like material for a sari; however, both ends are unfinished. Is it normal to find sari material that needs to be finished, and how would I find someone who could finish it properly? Would there be any other traditional uses for such a length of material, such as different ways of wrapping that would not need a finished end?

Also, I have seen people wearing special base clothing under the sari, and I have seen what looks like a basic top (full torso and long sleeves). Are there any "rules" regarding appropriate base layers to wear with a sari (if that is what this ends up being)?

Thanks for any information, recommendations, links you can provide.

  • Willilam Tell trio for flute, oboe/EH, piano?

Anyone know about a piece for this combo? It has three movements with the middle being the big flute/EH excerpt duet. I think it is by Demersseman but not 100% sure. I remember someone working on it when I was back in college. I'd love to get my hands on it if possible. Any publication or location info would be appreciated if you know of this piece.

  • how to delete "quick note" on Motorola phone?

Have a motorola tracfone (silver flip phone with camera, if it makes a difference) that has quick notes, which I understand are a way of having some frequently-sent messages stored for quick delivery. Does anyone know how to delete unwanted messages? I've looked everywhere online and can't seem to find any answers. Here's hoping.

  • How do I release the parking break?

Had my '95 Toyota Corolla parked for 2 months on a slight incline (nose down) with the parking break on. Went to drive it yesterday and the break was stuck on. Had my son give the car a little push and it released, but not all the way. It is still grinding a little as I started to drive (thus I parked the car and took the other one).

Anyone know what I could do to get it to release all of the way? What would I look for? Any descriptions need to be fairly detailed since I've never worked on breaks, but I'm not afraid of getting under the car (I'm a girl who changes her own oil). Or should I just drive into my repair shop (about 5 miles) with the break as is?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Where can one sleep at BWI?

Has anyone come across a good place to catch some Z's at BWI airport when you found yourself there at an ungodly hour? Comfy benches? Quiet (but not too deserted) corridor? This would need to be outside of the security gates for us.

    Here's hoping.

  • Are my two adapters interchangeable?

I have two wall power adapters--one that we picked up at a store and one that came with our Nook. It would seem to me that I could use either one to charge any device that can be charged by plugging it into a USB port on a computer, but I thought I'd spend 5 points just to make sure. That's a whole lot cheaper than blowing up one of my electronic devices. Are the differences in specs negligible, or is there something that will actually make a difference? I'm a geek, so nice detailed explanations are welcome. Thanks

    adapter 1--

    Input: 100-240V 50-60Hz 0.2A

    Output 1: 5.2V 500mA

    Output 2: 5.2V 500mA

    Adapter 2--

    Input: 100-240V 50-60Hz 0.15A

    Output: 5V 0.85A

  • are we crazy to ride eurail without reservations?

Trying to decide how much detailed planning we want to put into a trip to Europe. Planning on getting a eurail global pass, so we don't have to worry about countries or counting days. If we're willing to be flexible on times and locations, and willing to sleep in seats or in the train stations, do we really need reservations--how about during "tourist season", June and July?

I've read about different ways to avoid having to pay for a hotel (i.e. camp the rest of the night at the station, or ride away from a town for a few hours and then hop back on a train going back to the town). If we're willing to be this flexible, can we get away with no reservations, or will there be so many people that even this won't be feasible?

Since we still don't know exactly when we're going, and we may get only a few weeks notice, it's difficult to make plans. Anyone have experience riding "by the seat of your pants"? During tourist season?

Thanks for all of your input.

  • How easy is it to find hostel rooms in Europe?

We're going to be heading to Germany and thought it would be fun to visit some of the major European capitals. We were thinking of making use of the night trains and alternating nights between lay-down seats and bunks, thus keeping the cost closer to that of hostel rooms.

But if we get stuck in a country, especially one where we don't know the language (i.e. Hungary), how difficult would it be to find a hostel that would serve an adult and a child? Especially one where we would not have to be split up (different genders)?

I know there are sites online to locate hostels. Do I really need to contact each one to find out the policy? And what times of the year are more likely to have rooms available? I feel bad expecting people to know English in their own county so that I (a visitor) can communicate. How difficult will it be to communicate with someone if we have to find a room last-minute?

Any lessons learned from personal experience that you'd be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Please include the month(s) you visited so that we can determine if we'd experience similar situations. Thanks.

  • Reservations for each trip on Eurail?

We are going to be in Germany for a bit and thought it would be fun to get a Eurail pass and visit some of the big European capitals. I know that reservations are required for night trains. How far in advance should these reservations be made? Should we plan out our entire route and make all of the reservations before going, or will we be safe simply working a few days at a time?

We aren't going to be picky about having to have a bed. The lay-down seats will be fine. (Can anyone share how comfy the different accommodations are?) What are the chances of not being able to get seats? What months are safer for traveling day-to-day (i.e. there will be less people there) and which months count as peak travel season, thus we'd really need to plan in advance?

Any lessons learned through personal experience with this that you could share would be greatly appreciated. Please share what month(s) you traveled so that we can determine whether it will be similar to our dates.

  • Different German ways of saying "Welcome"?

    Another Rosetta Stone question.

  • Can you clarify inconsistencies in Rosetta Stone German?

Working through Rosetta Stone German. I'm on level 1, lesson 3. There seem to be several inconsistencies. Just wondering if anyone who knows German can explain the differences or clarify which are right. Please give sources or expertise when answering. Thanks

    1. "Nett, Sie kennenzulernen" or Net Sie kennenzulernen" (comma nor not)?

    2. Which nominative pronouns (ich, du, Sie, er, sie, es, wir, ihr, sie) are capitalized or do some change depending on usage (other than the first word of a sentence)?

    3. The computer only uses Mann/Frau while the worksheets use Eremann/Erefrau. Interchangeable?

    4. Grammar 2:2, screen 9--conversation between two people "Wo is meine Zeitung?" "____ Zeitung ist auf dem Tisch." They want "Ihre" as an answer instead of "Deine". Why is this?
