Spirit's Journey to the Center of Mars?
Does Mars still have a liquid core, or has it solidified? Place your bets.
5 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoWhy isn't there a Middle Eastern site on YA?
Many countries are represented on Yahoo International. Why isn't the Middle East represented at all? They do have a space agency headed by the United Arab Emirates: AUASS.
4 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoWhich animals would be most likely to survive on the moon or Mars?
Spirit and Opportunity are lonely. They're hoping some friends from Earth will join them someday. Assume a magnetic field is in place to protect them from cosmic rays. Which animal would you send and why?
9 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoHappy Valentines Day from Space?
How would we celebrate major holidays on the moons and Mars?
8 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoThe Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS)?
This is a start! We need to bring them on board to all the latest technological advances so they can begin colonizing all the moons/space. They probably lack the technical know how to do it. Any ideas?
1 AnswerAstronomy & Space1 decade agoAstronomers call for Arab space agency?
Has anyone seen a follow up to this article? This is the answer to all of their problems in the Middle East, no?
7 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoRheindeer endangered?
I just watched a video which shows rheindeer are being endangered by global warming. Apparently weather fluctuations have created a pattern of extreme cold, followed by a thaw, then it's cold again. The slush forms into ice, which the rheindeer can't poke thru to get at the moss, which is their primary sustenance.

My favorite film of all time is: Failure is Not an Option.
6 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoWe need some microprocessors to monitor?
We need some microprocessors to monitor the magnetic field of the moon and Mars. The field should stay at 0.5 and 2.0 (horizontal and vertical components); if the field drops, the atmosphere could dissipate into outer space, and expose its inhabitants to cosmic rays. Do we have such a product?
1 AnswerAstronomy & Space1 decade agoIs there a Macy's on the Moon yet?
How come there isn't a mall on the moon yet? Or supermarkets, or deli's?! We need some space U-Hauls and movers.
7 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoRiga and Karlsruhe Successful Dynamo Experiments?
FYI - Two experiments (one in Karlsruhe and another one in Riga) have already been successful in generating a self-excited magnetic field. Other experiments (in Cadarache, Madison, and Maryland) have not reached the critical magnetic Reynolds number yet but have been useful in exploring the approach to self-excitation.

I only know of a handful but heard about a few that I never knew about. How many in total are there, anyone know?
1 AnswerOther - Science1 decade agoCalculating Earth's magnetic field in Teslas?
How do you measure Earth's main field near the core, would it be around 100,000 Gauss or 10 Teslas? What equations do I use? Background info: The internal field of the Earth (its "main field") appears to be generated in the Earth's core by a dynamo process, associated with the circulation of liquid metal in the core, driven by internal heat sources. Its major part resembles the field of a bar magnet ("dipole field") inclined by about 10° to the rotation axis of Earth, but more complex parts ("higher harmonics") also exist, as first shown by Carl Friedrich Gauss. The dipole field has an intensity of about 30,000-60,000 nanoteslas (nT) at the Earth's surface, and its intensity diminishes like the inverse of the cube of the distance, i.e. at a distance of R Earth radii it only amounts to 1/R³ of the surface field in the same direction. Higher harmonics diminish faster, like higher powers of 1/R, making the dipole field the only important internal source in most of the magnetosphe

I need clarification as to whether persistent currents can last for 1,023 years or 10 to the 23rd power (indefinitely). There's a huge difference in magnitude between these two figures.
Thx.

1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoHow can Superconductors be used in Space?
Space is a cold environment, and superconductors only operate under cold conditions. How can we exploit the phenomenon of superconductivity to overcome problems in Space? What inventions would make use of superconductive materials like YBCO (yttrium barium copper oxide)?
