How long does it take for an infection to clear up?
My horse got a cut last saturday night and i didnt see it til sunday afternoon so it had already dried. the cut is on the inside of his right hock. i asked one of the trainers and he said to just leave it cuz it had started to heal a little already. so i left it but then wednesday i went and my horse was lame because his ankle was all swollen and even his canon was a little swollen. i didnt think of it being the cut at first (b/c he had been turned out with the other horses and he doesnt always get along nicely)
so i cold hosed his leg and my friend cold hosed him on thursday too. on friday i went and his ankle was getting better but then his hock is all inflammed. so i scrubbed his cut and got the old gross dirty scab off and then hosed it out. he is now on medicine for the infection. but hes still lame so i cant ride. ive been putting stuff on his cut whenver i go to make sure dirt stays out of it.
how long does it normally take for an infection to clear up? and how soon do u think before I can ride?
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoGood splint boots or ankle boots?
I've been looking for splint boots and ankle boots for the horse I ride. I leased him over the summer but because of school I had to stop leasing...but I still ride him like 3 times a week. I want to get boots for him so he doesnt get hurt and the other girl that rides him uses splint boots in front and ankle boots in back.
Im trying to find a good pair of both (that will work for shows - so no crazy colors) that doesnt make me go bankrupt. from what I can tell so far a good pair of each would be about $40? what is ur favorite brand of boots?
and I found nice ankleboots but ive never heard of the Valena brand before. http://www.adamshorsesupply.com/browse.cfm/4,7624....
Links are very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!!
o and i do english riding...mostly hunters jumping around 2'3"
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoAnyone know wherie I can get a crazy colored/design quarter sheet?
I have a cooler that I use for walking to and from riding when its cold and for at the very beginning and end of riding (just when im walking). but because the cooler is so big (i have a 17 hand horse so his cooler is pretty big) its hard to put on by myself.
so for christmas i am asking for a quarter sheet. but i dont want like a plan blue one or plain hunter green one cuz everybody has that. i want mine to be a little more colorful. and ive already check local tack shops and they only have boring ones. lol.
anybody know any good websites where i can get a really cute one? thanks in advance. ill choose a best answer!
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoPhysics Project Help?
I was recently assigned a project in physics in which we have to build a bridge. The bridge has to be able to support alot of weight (30 lbs max.) The bridges have to be made of only wood. They also have to be lightweight. To figure out our grade our teacher is doing: weight held by bridge divided by weight of bridge.
I know triangles are good shapes to build in...but any other suggestions/ideas??
Thanks in advance!
1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoHow heavy of a blanket does he need?
I live on Long Island, in NY. Right now its about 40-45 degrees. Ive never bought a blanket before because this is the first year with my horse. He is a 6 year old thoroughbred and he really doesnt like the cold. I have a cooler that i put on him before and after i ride. But what should he have on while he's in his stall? His stall is on the corner of the barn and we keep the door shut but he has a window that is open to the barn aisle and the barn aisle door is sometimes left open. The barn is not heated.
How heavy of a blanket should he be wearing? And any suggestions for a good one that could possibly work all winter?
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat should his showname be?
My horses barn name is String Bean. I need a show name for him. I want it to somehow relate to his barn name.
I was thinking Emerald something or somehow getting Emerald into the name cuz Stringbeans are green and so are emeralds. but i cant come up with anything good.
Any ideas?
O and if it helps he is a chestnut TB who lovess to jump
7 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat should I do about his stall?
I leased a horse over the Summer, but because of school I stopped leasing him but I still ride him 2 times a week in my lessons. He is a school horse so the owner of the barn could decide to change his stall (although his stall has remained the same for the past 4 months). He is an avid pawer and he has dug himself a hole about a foot wide and a couple inches deep in his stall right by the door.
I'm afraid he's going to trip in it and hurt himself. I cant put rubber matting over the whole stall cuz that would be way too expensive and I just dont have the money. But do you think it would be okay if i just put a rubber mat over the place where he paws? or would it shift around too easily and just make is easier for him to get hurt? (and i would obviously fill in the hole first before putting the mat down)
Also any suggestions for a good mat?
10 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHow much would he cost?
This is a 5 year old Thoroughbred. He's an ex-racehorse and is now jumping small courses. He's good, just young.
He's learning to get his flying lead changes/land on the correct lead after a jump. He is very good being led around and he trailers/stands for farrier. He lovessss to jump and is a very fast learner
The negatives:
He has dry hooves but as long as you apply hoof oil they are ok.
He wiggles around on crossties when you groom.
He paws alot whenever he sees something he wants (like other horses getting food)
Also, he refuses jumps when at shows cuz he's afraid of them. He refuses everything in the warmup but once he goes over everything a couple times hes ok.
hes a little lazy with his back end but once u get him going hes good
These are some pictures of him:

5 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHow much would you charge for this horse?
He is an OTTB. 5 years old foaled April 25th 2004.
He jumps around 2 foot. He has been taken to 3 shows and has improved alot. He still gets scared of certain things and refuses jumps at shows. We are currently working with him on his flying lead changes and hes starting to get them easily.
He stands for the farrier and trailers. He is good on crossties except while grooming he sometimes moves around.
His only problem is his feet...nothing big but his hooves sometimes crack because they are dry.

2 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat's the best wither pad to use?
The horse I'm half-leasing has really bad wither sores from like a rubbing saddle or something but I know it's not the saddle I use because he's been using that saddle for months and only got the wither sores like 1 1/2 weeks ago. My trainer said to use a wither pad but I don't know which one to use. I need a really thick one that has lots of cushioning (and not too expensive either lol)
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat should my horse's show name be? His barn name is Stringbean.?
Stringbean is a 4 1/2 year old thoroughbred. He came to my barn still "green" and hes quite tall and thin. I'm taking him to a show soon and I have no idea what his show name should be. I want it to somehow connect to his barn name (stringbean). Thanks!
