  • Taiwan reef coloration?

I was looking for some beauties to add to my african tank and I thought of Taiwan reef.I found them in a store but there's one problem. There all very dull in color. There only about 2 1/2 inches long. Is the lack of coloration because they are juveniles or could it be that they're all females? (aren't females nowhere near as colorful?)

  • Paradise gourami breeding?

I'm going to try to breed the paradise gourami but before I start I want to make sure of a few things. I know I need a floating surface for them to lay their eggs on and I am going to buy the female this weekend. I am worried that my filtration is too rough and that it will just pop or destroy the eggs. It is a 200gph filter on a 20 gallon standard. Also, will the gouramis defend the eggs because if they don't, my other fish will eat them. Should I remove them? If so, when?

  • Questions about Betta's?

I was thinking of getting bettas after hearing so much about them. They really sound like loads of fun. I just want to know what supplies I should get (food, conditioner, special ornaments etc.) Please give me a list with exact brands (only if it matters, if all brands are equal then don't bother.) Another question. Do bettas fare better with or without filtration because I have a hydro sponge filter thats without use. Should I use this filter? That's all for now. Thanks in advance.

  • Gold Tiger Datnoid?

I found some datnoids at a pet shop and they were on sale so I was thinking about getting one. First of all is this even a good deal? There are 2 of them for sale. One has perfect coloration and is 2". One is 3" but it's coloration is all messed up (the stripes are faded and the body has different shades of green). they were originally $25 and are on sale for $20. Is this a good price? If it is a good deal, which of the 2 datnoids should I get? A few more things. What kind of conditions fo these fish need? Are they brackish? Hardness, ph? Ive seen people keep them with africans so I was thinking of putting them with some of mine. Its not that full. It only has 4 peacocks. One is 4", 2 are 3", and the last is 2 1/2". The ph is usually 8.1 to 7.8. The hardness is usually moderate. Its 55 gallons.

  • Planet Earth episode?

I was wondering if anyone caught that episode of Planet Earth that was talking about the largest rivers in the world. I really enjoyed the section on Lake Malawi. That was pretty cool. They mentioned Lake Tanganyika but they didn't show it. They should have shown something like a school of cyphotilapia ftontosa all full grown. That would have been a a beautiful spectacle. Tell me what you guys thought about the epi please.

  • Which filter is best?

I'm upgrading my filter and I need a powerfilter and no other kind. I want a strong 200 gph filter. Its for my 20 gallon freshwater tank. It's a soft acidic community tank that is heavily stocked. I was planning on the biowheel but i heard that hard water ruins the biowheel and even thought the tank is soft water, the water in my area is very hard with a high alkalinity and ph. Should I still get the biowheel? Is there a better power filter for my situation?

  • How to cure hole in the head disease?

My friend has a 4" jewel fish and it has some holes in its head. He tried used a medicine called general cure which contains 125 mg of metronidazole. Is this enough of a dose or do we need a stronger medicine? It is in a quarantine tank by itself with a cave and three plants. It is very nervous and is lethargic. Will it die of starvation before it is cured? Please help.

  • Is this crowded?

I have a 20 gallon normal(not long) tank with 1 small angel about an 1 1/2", a 1/2" uaru, 2 bolivian rams (one is 2 1/4" and the other is 2"), 2 swordtails (1 1/2" each) and a dojo loach about 4". Is this too crowded? PS- I know the Uaru and angel get larger. I got that covered for when they do.

  • Question about frontosa?

The frontosa is about 3 months old after purchasing date and it's still the same size since i bought it. now i know it lives around 25 years but shouldnt it have grown since then, after all it was only an inch when i bought it. It lives in a 55gallon with 2 peacock cichlids and 4 tiny convicts(2 1-inchers and 2 2-inchers). I do weekly water changes of about fifty percent, remove ammonia nitrate and nitrate when they appear in my tank. i keep water with a high ph of about 8.9 and hard and alkaline and feed him/her spectrum pellets, frozen cichlid delight, beefheart, bloodworms, and some hikari gold sometimes. The filter is a fluval 305 with 2 powerheads for airation. There are 5 caves so i dont see why he wont grow. Could it be that im just impatient?

  • Got 2 anoles that don't eat as much as they used to. Can anyone help me make them eat again?

I usually feed them small crickets every day, some small mealworms every other day, and a waxworm every so often. The tank temp on the basking side is 90 degrees and the cooler side is 80 degrees. Recently my male has been picking on my female a lot, always has territorial fights and sometimes bites her. Fortunatley i help her wounds heal with some reptile medicine. These two anole live in a 20 gallon with a firebelly and a green tree frog. Also, i give them their vitamins and their calcium.
