From Pittsburgh to New York City?
Moving from Inner-city Pittsburgh to New York (Manhattan), how different will life be? Total culture shock? How do the people differ? Buildings? Everyday life and getting around? How do (public) high schools differ? What’s the hardest thing to get accustomed to for a non-native? What to expect in the first few weeks?
2 AnswersNew York City7 years agoCanon PS SX240/260, SX270/280, or SX510?
Hey all.
I am in the market for a new Compact/P&S camera.
I have done some research and have narrowed it down to:
Canon SX240/260
Canon SX270/280
Canon SX510
I am not worried about Video Recording. Yes, it’s a nice feature, and I might end up using it a little, but more than likely hardly at all. I want the camera to take photos.
My main subjects would be pets/animals (both inside and outside lighting), scenery and some holiday photos. Mostly the camera would be used taking animal photography (moving objects), so I’d think the faster shutter speed the better, right? Which one of the three above is better for that?
I realize these are not DSLRs which is much better for speed shots (and in general, really), but I am not looking for DSLR. The family has one to share and I am able to use if I need it. I am looking for a smaller camera I can carry around. The SX50 is too big.
I know there is an issue with the SX270/280 so, I am thinking of avoiding that? Yes? No?
I guess I am asking what out of the three above is the best in terms of an overall camera for photo quality, shutter speed, low light, processer etc, and which would be the better one for the subjects I’d like to shoot?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
2 AnswersCameras7 years agoYA Survival-Romance books?
Hey all,
I’m looking for a few Young Adult Survival-Romance type books.
I don’t mean dystopian. I’m after the kind of story where there’s a girl and guy lost in the wilderness, either at odds with each other or not, and have to learn to trust and rely on each other to survive, which leads to romance.
It can be contemporary, or paranormal (I’d prefer paranormal, I’m a sucker for supernaturals, haha). Stand alone novel or series, either is fine.
Thanks!
5 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoLaptop: Rapid Storage Technology. Disk on port 4: removed?
Hey guys.
I was wondering if you can help.
I brought a G580 (Windows 7) a few days ago, and I seem to have a problem with the Rapid Storage Technology program.
When I turn the laptop on it takes a minute or so for the program to connect, or start up, or whatever. This is normal; this does the same on my HP desktop PC.
However, about a minute afterwards I get a notification come up in the taskbar which says: Rapid Storage Technology. Disk on port 4: removed.
When I double click and go into the program, it shows two ports:
. Internal system disk 669GB (when I put my mouse over this, I can see this is port 1)
. Internal empty port 4
Now, when I first switch the laptop on and go into the program, the second port showing, the one that says "Internal empty port 4" shows up (before the minute or so is up, as I stated above). When this does show up, it says: Internal ATAPI device.
Now, I googled this, and it seems its my optical drive. Is this correct?
So, I decided to open the drive and when it pops open, I get a notification in the task bar which says: Rapid Storage Technology. Disk on port 4: detected.
Then after about a minute, again, I get a notification in the task bar which says: Rapid Storage Technology. Disk on port 4: removed.
Can anyone tell me what is going on? And why this is happening? Why my optical drive appears to be removing itself? My HP desktop PC does not do this at all.
Is this a fault with the laptop? Can it be fixed, or do I need to send the laptop back for a replacement?
Thank you for your time.
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoLooking for YA Sci-Fi Books?
Hey all,
I’m looking for YA Science fiction books (like, Upper-YA, really;: 16yrs+).to read. A Series would be better than a stand alone novel, but I'll take those too.
I'm looking for the kind of premise of teens with powers/abilities/genetically altered etc running from the government/a company. Perhaps the people who created/trained them? Fighting for thier freedom? It can take place now, or be futuristic, either is fine.
For example…. The Maximum Ride books? (I’ve read the first few—the second half of the series kind bored me.). Or something like… does anyone remember the show Dark Angel? (With Jessica Alba).
Thanks for any help you can provide.
2 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoHP Mini 210-1003sa VS Asus Ultra Portable 1225B?
Hey guys.
I currently own a HP Mini 210-1003sa Netbook PC for my on-the-go laptop.
It’s a 2010 model, and getting a bit old now. I’m looking to get a new one, but I’m not intending to spend much. The problem I have is I want a Windows 7 system, and with the release of Windows 8, Windows 7 systems are getting harder and harder to find here in the UK when buying from a reputable vendor and not places like ebay.
I want a 11” inch machine. Nothing bigger, as I need it for portability.
I don’t do gaming, I just use it for word processing and internet browsing (with a little bit of Youtube). It would be nice to do some light photo editing on the new one, but it’s not required.
I really like the Acer V5-171. That would be perfect, but I can’t find the machine anywhere. I ordered from one of our local PC store's here in the UK, and a couple of days later they then told me they had none in stock.
So I’ve been looking at a few options, and have been researching the Asus Ultra Portable 1225B. Yes, it’s not brilliant, but I want a 64-bit PC not Win7 Starter, so I’m very limited.
My question is: If you compare specs of the machines (listed below), am I getting anything better? Is the laptop likely to run any faster? The Asus does have more memory, but the processer isn’t quite as fast as my current HP…
HP Mini 210-1003sa (the one I currently own)
Processor: Intel Atom N450 (1.66 GHz)
RAM : 1 GB
Hard Drive: 250 GB
Operating System: Windows 7 Starter (32-bit)
Date of Release: 2010
Asus Ultra Portable 1225B
Processor: AMD Dual Core C-60 (1GHz, 1MB Cache)
RAM : 4 GB
Hard Drive: 320
Operating System: Windows 7 Premium (64-bit)
Date of Release: 2012
If anyone knows of better 11.6” Windows 7 (64-bit) machine for under £300 from a UK store (or a PC company manufacture) please post below, and I’ll check out the product name.
Thanks.

3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoYA Teenage Assassin/Agent Books?
Hey all,
I’m looking for a new book series to read. I thought I might try and find something a little different (I’ve been reading vamps/wolves/ghosts for a few years now). I was wondering if anyone can recommend a “Teen Assassin” book/series?
Sort of in the higher end of the YA category (Possibly adult if the characters are like early 20s, but I’d prefer late teens).
I’m not really thinking Alex Rider/Spy High/Young Bond/H.I.V.E, I’m more thinking along the lines of TV shows such as Dark Angel, Nikita (the current series).
I’d like something with some action and romance. It can be paranormal/scfi etc (meaning teens with abilities), I don’t mind that at all. Set in present day or the future is fine.
I’d REALLY like to read something where the teens are on the run from those who created/trained them. Is there anything like that out there? I’ve been looking, but so far, nothing.
Something along the lines of the Maximum Ride book series (I’ve read the first three, but couldn’t read the fourth and up… it just became too… blah) would fit—although the characters don’t have to be “freaks”.
I’m sort of after the theme, “They trained them, then they escaped.”
Any ideas?
3 AnswersBooks & Authors9 years agoCan you help me find this werewolf movie?
I’m looking for a movie I watched a while, back. I only saw bits of it at the time, and don’t remember that much. I do remember a group of werewolves (I think they were wolves, I'm not sure if I'm getting two movies mixed up, but they were deff shapeshifters if not werewolves) were living out in the wilderness somewhere in the USA. They lived as a family group—or Pack, I guess, and when in human form they lived in trailers, it was sort of like their own 'camp’. I think the wolves were running from something or someone…
Thanks for any help you can give.
2 AnswersMovies9 years agoHelp With Types Of Seizures?
Hey all,
I’m trying to figure out what kind of seizures these two accounts might be:
1) First the person feels hot then cold, then the left hand starts to shake violently without stopping, then that staking spreads to the rest of the body—again shaking non-stop. There is no stiffness in the shakes; the person is more “floppy” than stiff. The person is conscious and coherent throughout the seizure, but speech is slow. The seizure lasts between 1-3 minutes. The person remembers what happens.
2) Again, first the person feels hot then cold, the person can taste a metal taste in their mouth, then the left hand starts to shake violently without stopping, then the shaking spreads to the rest of the body. This is the same as the above, but within 20-30 seconds, sometimes less they pass out. Once passed out the seizure continues for about 1-2 minutes, sometimes less. The person does not remember passing out, but remembers the start of the seizure.
I’m pretty sure 2) is a “Simple partial” going into a “Tonic-Clonic”?
But I’m having trouble with 1). I had suspected “Simple partial” going into either “Myoclonic” or “Clonic” without the Tonic. But, I’m unsure because of no stiffness.
Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone recommend any YA books where the lead is a teen Demon/Vampire/Shifter Hunter? I'm looking for a new series - not a single novel - to read. Something along the lines of Buffy, I guess.

3 AnswersBooks & Authors9 years agoMeaning of the name “Kaia”?
Hey all,
I’m doing some research for the name “Kaia”. However, I’m getting conflicting results from different baby name sites.
1) I was wondering if anyone from Hawaii can tell me if the name is the female version of Kai, which means “the sea” in Hawaiian. If so, does Kaia mean “the sea” or “from the sea” in Hawaiian as well?
2) Also, in Greek does the name “kaia” mean “from the earth?”
Thanks!
5 AnswersBaby Names9 years agoSmall coast MA towns?
We’re looking for a small MA coast town, on the water. More of a residential town than a touristy town. However, some tourism is okay. We’re looking for a community feel, with a downtown area. Local schools are important for the kids, K-12.
Size of population anything from 3000-8000.
We’ve looked at:
Nahant, but sadly no high school.
Swampscott, too big (wiki says population is 13,787)
Marblehead, again too big (wiki says population 19,808)
Any ideas?
Thanks!
3 AnswersBoston9 years agoMovie about a Teen Swimmer?
Hey all,
I'm looking for a movie about a teenage (sixteen, I think she was) girl who trained and competed in swim competitions. I’m not sure if the movie was about that, or if it was just part of the over all storyline, however, I remember it being a pretty big part of the story. The movie was made after 2000.
Thanks.

Hey all,
I’m looking to get a Lenovo Z370 i5 13".
I’m wanting a Laptop Cooler as well, and after doing a bit of research, I’ve found a couple that look good, but I was wondering what would be the best?

Or is there a better one in my price range? It’s about £20-£30.
Thanks!
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoAlienware 14x… The equivalent?
Okay, so I’ve been looking at the Alienware 14x, but its just out of my price range, I can't spend £1000 on a laptop. So, I was wondering if there are any other laptops out right now that are cheaper and are of the equivalent specs? (I’d like to play The Sims3 on it)
It must:
. NOT a Mac, must be Win7 - 64 Bit.
. 11”-14”, no bigger.
. Have an optical drive.
. At least an i5 or i7
. At least 4GB RAM.
Thanks for your time, and any help you can provide.
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoHelp me with Lenovo Laptops?
I’ve been looking into getting a new laptop, and I’m liking the look on the Lenovo brand.
I am interested in a 12” or 13” inch size, however, I would like it to have a CD drive. I would also like it to have something along the lines of an i5 processor, with at least 4GB ram.
I would like a fast machine, to do everyday tasks, such as, MS Office (word/Frontpage etc), web browsing, emails, Facebook/Twitter, YouTube/streaming vids, watching movies, looking at and editing photos (to a point, I can do most editing on my desktop). I’m not a gamer, and don’t intend to play games on it.
Speed is important, as well as the processor, and CD drive. I’d like a nice viewing screen, but as I said, it hasn’t got to be outstanding, just for movie/graphics use, not games.
So, do you recommend any “Lenovo’s” for my requirements? Have you got one? What’s it like?
Thanks.
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoLooking for a SMALL Laptop?
Hey All,
I’ve been looking around for a small laptop. But I can’t seem to decide what to do. Once I think I’ve found one, others say “No, don’t get that!”
I’ve spent hours online (and getting very frustrated now!!), and I can’t come up with anything. So, I thought I’d post here and see what you guys cane come up with.
PLEASE guys, I DO NOT want a Mac!
Below is a list of what I’d like in a laptop:
. Windows7 64-bit.
. Wifi.
. Between a 11”-13” at the most (14” at a push!)
. At least an i5 – duel core, if poss (the best processor for the money, really)
. At least 4GB RAM.
. Memoy Card slot.
. A CD Drive. (it doesn’t have to write, just read)
. The best graphics I can get for the money.
I have a budget of about £500.
I’m after a small laptop rather than a notebook/netbook as I want a CD drive. Yes, I want a smaller screen size to make it more portable.
I’d like the PC processor to be as fast as I can get for the money.
I’m not a gamer, so I don’t need amazing graphics for games etc. But graphics for watching videos/looking at photos is a must. (they don’t have to be outstanding, just average, really)
I’m not worried about the thickness of it.
I would like to use this as a replacement for my desktop when I’m not at home.
I would like to use it for:
. Web browsing, email, facebook, twitter, MSN, etc.
. YouTube, watching videos/movies/streaming-Tv.
. Microsoft office: world docs and html writing.
. Image Graphics: editing photos etc (this can mostly be done on my desktop though)
Thanks for any help you can provide.
