  • Woman proposing to man - thoughts?

I'm sure there's a few discussions about this topic out there, but I'm interested to hear people's opinions.

For the first time in my life, I'm considering marriage as something I would actually want - I am madly in love with my partner and it's something we've talked about, despite both of us not agreeing with the traditional ideals of "marriage".

I'm curious as to how other females would feel about proposing to their boyfriends? On the other hand, how would men feel if their girlfriend proposed to them?

  • Have you noticed how...?

The word "literally" is being used in completely the wrong way these days? Half the time people seem to use it instead of the word "seriously" or similar.

Eg. I was watching Jeremy Kyle yesterday and he said to one girl:

"Your world has *literally* been turned upside down"

He took the meaning of the word "literally" and turned that upside down. It's completely NOT literal, it's completely figurative!

I hear this all too often - please can someone else say that they agree...

Is TV to blame? All it takes is one person to say it wrong and it be broadcast that people watching take it in and use it, getting it wrong all the time.

I have a similar gripe to the word "random", which has lost all meaning in this day and age. Such a shame.

  • Does anyone study at University of Toronto?

If so, do you have any idea of tuition fees for International Students on Masters courses? More specifically if it makes a difference, the MSc in Clinical Biomedical Engineering.

I've looked on the website but can't seem to find anything, so any information would be great!

Plus, generally what is the University like?

  • Psychology of Yahoo Answers Users?

I was wondering, if you were to see a question that you knew the answer to, and you then realise that someone has answered with the EXACT thing that you were going to write do you:

    a) Give the answer a thumbs up and move on

    b) Answer it with the response you were going to give anyway

I'm just curious because it seems that so many people seem to give the exact same answer over and over again, it's quite frustrating especially when they get picked best answer over you!

    All opinions welcome

  • Which product was this advert for? ?

The advert played on the Ian Dury song "Reasons to be Cheerful 1.2.3"

I'm sure it was food and that it went "reasons to EAT .... 1.2.3"

    It's driving me nuts!

  • Does anybody watch Lab Rats and find it funny?

I saw it the other night and have to say, it's the worst example of comedy television that I've seen in a very very long time.

I was wondering does anyone actually watch this rubbish and enjoy it? And if so, why?

I have to say, even When The Whistle Blows is better, which is saying something...

  • The Matchmaking Service on Sims 2 with Freetime?

I installed Nightlife over a year ago, and recently installed Freetime, and since I have - whenever I call the matchmaking service over, all they do is creep up and leave the magic lamp then creep away again!

I know it's good in a way because I get loads of lamps, but in another sense it's annoying if I want to set my sim up on a date. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there any way to fix it?

I don't use any of the boolprop cheats, so haven't messed with the game in any way.

    Thanks

  • A recurring problem with MATLAB?

Every time I open up the MATLAB software on my laptop, it says Initializing... at the bottom for ages, and doesn't seem to ever finish initializing to let me start.

If anyone knows what causes this problem, whether it's just the software or whatever, then any help would come in very handy. Thanks

  • Who else here is fed up with misuse of the word "random"?

I just saw a question asking people to describe themselves in one word, and the first answerer had put "random"..

    So... you're random?

    Really?

It just doesn't make sense to me. It seems to have become a new word to describe kookiness, craziness, spontaneity - but that's not what it means!

It drives me nuts.. like when people say "did you see that episode of family guy? it was so RANDOM"

If anyone else shares my gripe, please add, so I don't feel like I'm just ranting.

Also, if you use the word random a lot, please say why, and what you take it to mean.

    Thank you!

  • Is there a cheat for Sims 2 Open for Business that does this?

Hi, I am an avid sims player, and have only recently been using the Open for Business expansion on my game.

The one problem I have with it is that your sim can't sleep on a business lot.. If there is a bed, they only can relax, and can't nap on the sofas either...is there any cheat to overcome this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • What documentation do you need for eligibility to work in the USA?

I'm thinking about applying for some summer camp work at a tech camp in USA, and was wondering what sort of documents are needed for me to be "eligible" to work there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have absolutely no clue.

  • Can anyone help with Sims 2 on the PS2?

I am asking this question on behalf of my little sis. She sent me a text this morning saying that her sim has been abducted by UFOs.

Is there any way to get her sim back? Will it just come back on its own?

I tried looking it up online but all links seemed to come up with Sims on the PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Anonymity and Yahoo Answers - what do you think?

I had thought before that Yahoo answers would be a much better place if there was none of this username and avatar malarkey.

    Anyone agree?

Just think, it could actually be a question-answer site rather than a blog site.

I'm sure this has been moaned about before, and I'm not actually moaning, just wondering who agrees or has any views on this.

I think it would be a lot better for the purpose of this website.

  • Which city in Italy would you recommend?

I'm thinking about taking a short holiday at the end of this summer, and just wondering where to go. I have been to Rome and Naples recently, and Pisa and Florence when I was younger but can't remember at all.

So anyone who lives in Italy or has visited a city recently, which ones are good for a short visit? I'm thinking museums and sights. Thanks!

  • Does anyone have any information on New Scientist Internships for 2008-2009?

I subscribe to the magazine and have been looking out for ads for the last few months but haven't found anything.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of or seen any information for such an internship - any help would be extremely valuable as I'm pretty sure all the deadlines have either passed or are coming up soon.

    Thanks

  • Cookie Recipe?

Can someone give me a recipe to make really good cookies? Tried and tested would be the best, and why they are so good!

I know what I want to put in them, so just a basic recipe would be great.

    Thanks!

  • Are spelling and grammar still important in today's society?

I wonder because I see terrible spelling and grammar everywhere I look.

I remember being in school and having spelling tests, dictation, and other work involving grammar, and it was so important!

    What does everyone think?

  • How come people give thumbs down to perfectly reasonable answers?

So many times, I have given an answer that I thought was fitting to the question at hand, and have gotten a thumbs down.

Why are people so quick to disagree?

Also, do you think it's really fair to dismiss someone's opinion by giving it thumbs down?

  • I need some help with Visual C++ Really Basic Question?

I need to know the very easiest thing and simplest thing possible, which is simply:

when you have a file in C++, and a command prompt window open, what do you type into the command prompt in order to navigate to that file that the C++ file is in?

For example, my file is called "mlpmain.cpp", and the folder that that file is in is called "Neuro"

I did it last year and cannot for the life of me remember - but I would be so massively grateful for this tiny bit of info - it's so important!
