  • License suspended due to unpaid traffic ticket?

    Story:

I was driving down 14th ave in Sacramento, and was getting to a Stop sign, and nobody was around to pass. I briefly stopped, then went ahead to cross the street. The next thing I knew, there was a Motorcycle behind me.

He said that I didn't make a full stop at the stop sign, in which i found odd, since I did, but it was his word against mine.

When I looked on the ticket, it didn't have the violation of the stop sign on there. I didn't have my registration or insurance paperwork at the time since I was having the ride cleaned out and was going home. He never wrote the violation of the stop sign on there, but the failure to show proof of registration and insurance.

When I went to the Court, they wouldn't accept the proof unless I had $150, which was $75 for each violation. When I had the cash to pay for it, I was told that I was a few days late and it was already pending a judgement.

I received the judgement a month later saying that I owe $2,350. and suspended my license. Is there a way to bring this cost down or am I totally screwed? Also how long does this unpaid ticket stay on file?

Any logical answer would help. Thanks.

Please, don't reply with "time to find a job to pay it off with". That is really annoying as hell since finding a job is like winning the lottery these days. Much appreciated.
