  • Have costume and cocktail ideas for a John Hughes themed Halloween Party?

After his untimely passing this past August, we decided to make this years' Halloween Party a John Hughes Haloween Party, and I'd love your help with some fun adult beverage ideas or cocktails taken from his movies.

I'd prefer to not just go as a movie character, but something funny. My ideas for costumes so far: "John Hughes Movie Marathon" (Wear running clothes and race number with various movie scenes ironed on them) or a dress with mini cars/planes/trains sewn on and literally be "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles".

John Hughes was an American film director, producer and writer. He scripted some of the most successful films of the 1980s and 1990s, including National Lampoon's Vacation; Ferris Bueller's Day Off; Weird Science; The Breakfast Club; Some Kind of Wonderful; Sixteen Candles; Pretty in Pink; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; Uncle Buck; Home Alone, Mr. Mom, Dutch, 101 Dalmations and more.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Do you know anything about Wasauna's whirpool bathtubs or other bathroom products?

Consumers, builders, plumbers or other contractors...have you ever seen, installed or used any of Wasauna's bathroom products? We're thinking about putting Wasauna's Fairfax bathtub in a new home we're building based on its online description and price, but I've never personally seen one in person and can't find any online reviews on the company or this product, so I'm a little trigger shy. Let me know if you've seen or used this or any of Wasauna's products and what you think! If you have other whirlpool bath recommendations in the under $2500 range and around 6' long (not much smaller), I'd love to hear that too! Thank you!!

  • Who should I drop/pick up from waivers now that Brandon Jacobs is injured?

Here is my current roster along with their week 2 opponents.

Besides any of my starters, who do you think I should drop to pick up Brandon Jacob's back up, Derrick Ward? I am heavy on WRs so it seems logical to dump one, but I don't know who is worthless to me yet with them all nursing injuries. Since Brady doesn't miss a game (knock on wood) I could chop Cutler too. Also, if I miss Ward on the waiver wire (I have 4th waiver priority), who are some other RBs I should look at? Should I ignore R. Droughns since D. Ward seems to have the job?

    STARTERS:

    T. Brady QB - SD

    J. Walker WR - Oak

    P. Burris WR - GB

    L. Tomlinson RB - @NE

    B. Westbrook RB - Was

    A. Crumpler TE - @ Jac

    B. Jacobs RB (this is a RB/WR flex spot) - GB (INJURED)

    Denver DEF - OAK

    N. Keading K - @NE

    BENCH

    S. Moss WR Bench - @ Phi

    G. Jennings WR Bench - @NYG

    T. Glenn WR Bench - @Mia

    V. Morency RB Bench - @NYG

    J. Cutler QB Bench - OAK

New England DEF Bench - SD

  • Will you please vote on our list of baby boy names -- his big sister is Kendall.?

Please vote on our list of baby boy names at the link below. Our 21 month old daughter is Kendall, and I'm a little concerned about having another hard "C" name since our last name starts with a K and we already have Kendall. I would love to know your thoughts on our list.

IMPORTANT: The middle names are not set in stone, and are interchangable for the most part, so don't let MN's sway you to much for or away from a first name.

VOTE on our baby boy name list here:

  • He has brownish urine, earlier abdominal cramps, and lower back pain. Should I make my husband go to the ER?

My husband's urine has a reddish-brown hue to it the last 4 times he has urinated, which we know may mean there is blood in his urine (he is not on any meds or has eaten anything unusal to change his urine color). He also had bad abdominal cramps earlier that have since subsided. We thought the cramps were from constipation but cannot be sure. Also, he had earlier light-headedness and has lower back pain (which is not unusal for him...he has back trouble often).

These symptoms point to a possible kidney infection or stones, but he does not have a fever and is feeling better tonight than he did earlier today. He is not the type to complain about ailments, so this is all unusal.

Are there any people in the medical profession who can give us advice on whether we should go to the ER or if this can wait to see his regular doctor tomorrow?

  • What are some of the best kid-friendly restaurants for brunch and dinner in Seattle (Ballard/Greenlake area)?

We have a 19-month-old with one on the way, and we try to be considerate parents when we dine out, but like places that are accommodating to families with their high chairs, crayons, healthier kids menus, faster service, etc.

We've been dining at Hale's Alehouse in Fremont/Ballard, Cafe Vios on Capitol HIll, Elysian in Tangletown, Luau in Tangletown (sit by the fish tank on the floor!), Barking Dog in Ballard, High-Life in Ballard etc. We just want some new ideas!

On the contrary, where have you had BAD experiences taking your kids--the places you recommend we avoid?

  • My yellow lab has one bare hot spot on her front paw--are there some OTC human medicines that can treat this?

Our yellow lab has one 2" x 1" hot spot on her front paw's "wrist" area that is bare and exposes dark looking rough skin below. I have seen her licking that area, but it doesn't seem to bug her too badly, yet the hair continues to fall out there. I have been giving her Frontline on a regular schedule, so I don't suspect fleas. Also, we've been treating her for a possible ear infection because of the classic yeasty smell her ear had in the past two weeks. Could that be the cause of the hotspot? What should I use to treat the hotspot and try to get the hair to grow back? Thanks!

  • How many square feet are in a round table with a 60" diameter table top?

I am trying to calculate the weight of a round granite slab table top, so that I can buy a table base that can hold it. I know that the 3cm thick granite slab weighs 18 lbs./sq. ft. but I'm not sure how to calculate how many square feet are in a 60" diameter round table top. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • How accurate are ultrasounds when predicting a baby's gender at 20 weeks?

I'm 20 weeks pregnant with my second baby and we found out after our ultrasound this week that we're having a boy. They were accurate in predicting that our daughter was a girl, but my husband is worried that this is wrong (because he really wants a boy!). Can you point to some facts on how accurate 20-week ultrasound gender prediction is?

Are they more often wrong when predicting boys or girls? I'd love to hear your stories about your friends who had babies of the opposite sex than they expected, but I'm really looking for some hard facts or online news articles on this subject. Thanks!

  • It's a boy! Can you help us name Kendall's little brother?

Our second child is due on Halloween, and we just found out that we're having a boy! We haven't begun to think of names.

Some things that may help you come up with a name: Our 18-month old daughter is Kendall and our last name is Kastner. This little baby boy will likely grow up to be a tall (I'm 5'11" and my husband is 6' 5") and will be blond-haired and have light eyes just like his mom, dad and his big sister. We don't like names that are too unusual, too trendy, or too common, and don't care for alternate spellings.

Can you give us some ideas? Thanks so much!!
