Swap ATI to GeForce in Asus laptop?
Not much to say. I have an Asus K50AB laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon (4570HD) and would like to change it to GeForce G102M. I am no stranger to tinkering but can it be done?
1. Will the socket fit? Are the plug sockets universal or do they differ between manufacturers?
2. Will the basic firmware work by itself until I can install the proper drivers? If not, can I over-ride it?
Thanks.
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoVietnam/US documentary?
Regards.
I am searching for two documentaries in particular. One is about the Vietnam war and the other is about the US raising their children in their gun culture. I believe the latter was called Young Guns but all I found was a movie. Basically it portrays the US and their obsessions with firearms being forced onto their children at all young ages (8yr old on a machine gun, Uzis pushed into arms of young girls... for instance).
About the Vietnam documentary I have a basic idea what it was called and a scene etched into my memory: It is (I think) presented from a POV of a war photographer. The title of the documentary is something like
"Secrets of <village name>" or "memories from/of <village name>".
By its manner it's something like fog of war and enemy image. For reference is a scene that I remember(spoken, not a citation):
"The bodies of the villagers were put on piles to be burned. I saw a child walking towards/by one of these and got down to prepare to take a photo. A solider came by and looked at what I was shooting. He got down, took his rifle out and just as the child came by the pile he shot it through the head and its body fell on the pile. I turned to the solider and I just asked him... why? The solider juts got up and left."
If anyone has an idea of what this is I'd be most grateful if they would share their thoughts.

Hello. This question is aimed mainly at university students and/or physicists.
I am interested in what schools teach nowadays regarding one question:
Q: "Which dimension do we live in?"
2 AnswersPhysics9 years agointeractive PDF photo index page?
I am trying to make an ebook of sorts. To be precise I wish to make an album of photos where one would get a page of thumbnails. Once a thumbnail is pressed the person would be "shown" the image in full screen.
I am trying to find programs capable of doing that.
I prefer open source or other free programs.
I tried one program (album shaper) and the results were good, short of the part where what I actually made was a web page, not a pdf document. So If anyone knows how to embed a webpage functionality into a pdf I'm all ears.
I know Adobe Bridge has some way of making a web album. Does it export to pdf as well?
Variations of the function are acceptable. Basically any sort of interactive index will do the trick, though preferably a thumbnail of the page.
If anyone knows how to do this in Scribus or another Linux program please share. =)
2 AnswersSoftware10 years agoCanon 550D + water = sensor ok?
At this point I've no idea how long it was in the water or what happened afterwards, let's suppose the "culprits" tried to turn it on after a few hours, thinking it was dry.
The camera does not turn on and that's about it.
I wish to ask you what exactly has the highest chance of "breaking"(frying)? Is it the sensor, chip or would it be the flash battery? Or motherboard?
I do have some experience in tinkering with cameras so if the sensor and the motherboard are okay or some minuscule thing went wrong I might still be able to fix it. Its quite new, however, so I'd rather have taken it to be serviced professionally but I don't think they cover water. ^_^'
Unless if you think I could write it off as "it just stopped working" or "flash didn't fire then it died". I'm a student so simply buying a new one is out of the question. I really don't want to have to pay for a whole new camera if I can avoid it.
I'm also open for links to tutorials on deep-servicing a camera or *anything* you think could help me.
3 AnswersCameras1 decade agoHigh pulse and long nosebleeds?
My pulse is always much too fast(80-100bpm while sitting) and I get irregular spontaneous nosebleeds. Does anyone have an answer as to what the reasons could be?
I am 22, fit(I have fat + muscles can almost be seen), I eat greens and meats & a fish here and there, plenty of carbohydrates and I got a massive sweet tooth. I don't "exercise" but I move and do physical labour often enough it basically keeps me in shape.
I'm ~5,9 (~175cm) and ~176lbs (~80kg; almost 800 stones). So, here's the deal:
I've had spontaneous nosebleeds for about 4 years now in pauses of a few months in between. They literally start without a cause - winter, summer, hard work, studying and today because I opened a door! Today's bloody mess was about 1 drop per second for about 10 minutes but sometimes it was up to 4 drops/min for 30 minutes. I've received my share of hits on my face in my younger days but I've never been a quick bleeder. In fact, most of my external cuts dry up in a matter of minutes, it's just the nosebleeds that don't seem to stop. What could be causing this?
As for my pulse, my heart is always racing - at the moment it's 100 beats per minute and as you can imagine I'm sitting down. My position doesn't really matter, I could be lying down and it would still be more or less the same. I'm a bit sick at the moment(cold or flu) but this should be no cause for it to spike to 130 for about half an hour somewhere during the day(I ate something sweet and some cheese just prior so that could be a reason). Forte record, the other people I know pace between 60 and 34.
I've had 3 instances of my chest feeling as if my heart was grinding gears(quite literally, I suspect arithmy). The first time was when I was ~9, the second and third happened years later. In all those cases I was being physically active but it was nothing "out of the ordinary", less even. I underwent an ECG examination a day or two after my latest gear grinding and aside from my heart being a congo drum everything seemed to be fine - not even the pace was noted though as I said, about 90 lying down.
It's kinda annoying to have your heart racing or a nosebleed when telling a woman you're not really that into her. Besides, taste of blood doesn't usually go well with my lunch. :D
So what is going on? Do I just need more "exercise"? Is it possible my veins are too thin or wide, is cholesterol an option? Is my blood too thin?
I've really no idea! Do you?
4 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoNear Infra Red - Nikon D50 - What filter or technique to use?
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d50ir.htm
"White Balance and color" images.
Image ref. nrs.:

The upper link takes you to a page where the camera used is supposedly the same as mine, yet the image is white/gray/blue/yellow while mine are of solid colour. The numbers above correspond to 4 photographs on that same page (about 1/3 slider down at White Balance and color section).
I use a home-modified Nikon D50 with 2 layers of black slide-film as IR filters instead of hot mirror on the chip.
My initial idea was that the second cover blocks too much visible light and renders images a solid colour - but this doesn't explain why White Balance doesn't work.
So my problem is this: I wish to make an image like #2 - the bluish leaves and brown clouds but always end up with a violet version of #1. I tried setting white balance manually with one of the blank page images I took but the pictures remain violet. I shoot in RAW(.NEF)
The other WB settings work. Or used to before I removed the hotmirror. I can still see the difference if I shoot with "flash" or "tungsten" but manual WB doesn't make it white. Could the image be "too violet" for the camera to process? Or is it the film's fault? I've got a glass IR filter (Cokin 89B) that gives much more red photographs, but would that really work differently?
4 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoProEngineer/Wildfire equivalent for Linux/opensource.?
Many Windows programs have their opensource (near-)equivalent for Linux like
Adobe Photoshop - GIMP
Microsoft office - OpenOffice
Autodesk Maya - Blender 3D
AutoCad - QCad
What I wonder is what would be Linux equivalent of Proengineer Wildfire.

4 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoLong distance relationship, love and hope...?
There is a girl i love (currently my ex). We live in different countries and have fallen quite far apart. But i am not about to let her go as until i have a chance (and that means while she respects my wishes and/or feels something for me).
I need advice on how to make her love me again while we live this far apart and how to keep a long-distance relationship alive regardless of the distance.
***************************************
I'll skip the history and details.
Even after we broke up we stayed in contact. I could've broken it a few times but i promised i'd be her friend no matter what and... i won't take that back. Which makes talking about my problems a lot harder since the i am talking about the reasons to the reason itself.
A year ago we began falling apart for real. I think we were both confused about our feelings for each other. I don't know why. The day we broke up i was the one who pulled the plug (for a change) because she couldn't say it. I felt she needed it. A few months later it seemed as we were going to get back together... but somehow i couldn't say yes. The feeling was strange. I never gave up on her and then i couldn't say anything but "i don't know what's up". After that she told me she decided to get over me for real. Then she moved to a different place (even) further (than 1000miles) away. Everything was steady for a while but now she started having feelings for a guy i introduced to her online and that lives near her... funny part is she always said she didn't like him(called him "our jerk" on occasion). I tried being as objective as i could and support her but couldn't do it. a few nights ago we had a long talk and i was a press of a button away from never hearing from her again. (she asked me to let her go and i almost did). I let her go once a year ago, i still love her and the mean time almost drove me insane.
As you can see the situation is dire. Right now i managed to convince her not to break contact with me, but i'm not even sure i did the right thing for her. From the way she spoke it sounded like she was going to do it anyway eventually. I am not prepared to let that happen, however, yet she is drifting away quickly. Selfish as i may be, I hurt her once before by *letting* her go and i won't do it again until she stops talking to me and erases me from her life completely.
I know it's pathetic. I know it's selfish, possibly stupid and that i may be pushing her further away like this. But i have decided i will do my best to mend this relationship and i need help.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agohow to recognise a handmade katana.?
i want to know if the katana i have is handmade or not. i don't have the necesary equipment in order to check the blade finish date and the sword did not come with a certificate - it was second-handed.
The sword is rather heavy, made of rustable steel and said to have been made for training purposes.
The blade itself is full of waving lines that look like layers to the naked eye, but seem shaved off at some areas of the sharp end.
i don't wish to damage my sword using acid or shaving, so i would ask for any at all charachteristics of a handmade blade that i may find on mine.
5 AnswersMartial Arts1 decade agoi need a Gabriela Robin / Yoko Kanno song name?
it starts with a serious beat of electronic instruments/effects i can't identify, continues in vocals, towards the end male vocals come in allong with female vox. the lyrics are unknown to me but the start is - by what i can analyse:
"ehey ehehehey"
"nomenomiya eneestina, kuretu da,
obiyestanabini,
obenomiya eneestina, kuretu ra,"
i can't make out the chorus.
for the people that have seen "ghost in the shell 2", it is the song played in the (1be4)last episode when the helicopter is approaching the city over the ocean.
alternativelly, is there a way i can find out? a site or something?
thank you.
