  • Am I legally entitled to a medical second opinion?

I have been under the care of a London hospital for suspected breast cancer. I have had 2 mammograms, 2 ultra sounds, a biopsy and a lumpectomy, and various swabs analysed, which I am told have all been benign. However, one year on I am still getting the same symptoms (a green discharge from my nipple. the doctors have never given much attention to the darting pains I get only on that side - ie if it was hormonal I'd surely get them on both sides). Last weekend I noticed a trace of dark, almost brown, blood. I have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow. But I went to my GP this morning to enquire if I could have a second opinion. The hospital 'seem' very attentive and helpful and on the whole I have been satisfied - but what if they've made a mistake - we all make them? My GP said it was not London Borough of Haringey's policy to refer for second opinions due to funding shortages.

So my question is am I legally entitled to a second opinion - where do I go from here, trust the hospital and hope they have not made a mistake and if there is any cancer that they catch it before its too late!

  • What age does a child start talking?

My childminder told me today that my son in slow in starting to talk, he is 27 months. He understands everything, for example if I ask him if he is hungry he will say yes or nod his head. If he has a dirty nappy and I ask he will either say yes or no. He says Nan, grandad, mummy/mum, dad, dog, plane, helicopter, cake, this way, banana, how are you, thank you, bus, choo choo, eyes, toes, mouth, bum. And various other things, I thought he was doing ok but now I am wondering. My partner is foreign and does speak in his language to him, could this be delaying things? Or is he speaking fine for his age. Some of the words are not very clear, as his mum I understand where others might not.

  • What car should I get?

I have a child with all the paraphernalia but don't want a people carrier. Can you recommend a nice 'normal' car with a good roomy boot.

  • Did you (women) notice a difference in your periods either having a child or when you turned 40.?

I had a child after 40 with no problems (c/section), but have noticed my periods have changed. I can 'feel' the blood loss, if that makes sense - not painful but I am aware of it whereas I was not before.

  • Have you suffered an ectopic pregnancy?

It is too early for me to do a pregnancy test yet and to be honest I am probably not. However, getting a few tell tale signs - wishful thinking no doubt. But I am also getting a few other strange feelings.

Can you please, if you can remember or even recognised them, tell me what the very early symptoms of an ectopic prgnancy are. Thanks a lot.

I come from a council estate and went to comprehensive school but all these headlines about unruley children in schools, makes me really worry about when my son goes to school in a few years time. I cant afford private but you hear about these so called 'feral' children. It makes me want to leave the country! What did you do/or what are you planning to do?

  • I would like to know the reason for the red dot that Asian people put on their forehead?

Seen a man on the underground today with one, have not seen one for a very long time and I am curious to know the reason. Does it symbolise something? This is a serious question, serious answers please.

  • Anyone else shocked about Jade Goody?

As the mother of a young child, I really feel for her. I know she is not everyone's favourite person, but as a mother of two young children I was shocked at the news. I never understood the fear of dying until I had my son and now I understand it only too well.

  • Now thats what I call Music LPs? Are they worth anything?

I seen an article in the paper last night about these, which suggested they might be valuable. I have loads of them, some vinyl, tape and some CD. Are the early ones valuable? I have the first one and a dance album from the 80s?

  • Can anyone in Edinburgh recommend a nice hotel?

My parents who are now retired want to visit this city. Having raised four children they have rarely stayed in hotels. Can anyone recommend a good 'wow factor' hotel for strangers to your city, close to the centre, which whilst more than a 2** hotel or B&B will not cost the earth?
