  • How can I speed up seeding on Azureus 2.5.0.4?

I've got Azureus on my computer, I've even got good settings for fast downloads. The only problem is that seeding is sooooo slow. I know it is meant to be slower but is there some settings I can play with to try and improve the upload speed whenever I'm only seeding or something.

It feels like it takes forever to get to a decent share ratio. I seem to spend weeks seeding files it takes me an hour to download.

Any help would be appreciated I can't seem to find the information on the azureus help pages but maybe I'm just not looking under the right section.

  • When updating your hardware which computer components have to remain for it to be called the same computer?

OK so my housemate says he has had the same computer for 5 years, but in that time he has changed every component several times, so the only thing that is actually the same is the case.

On the other hand I have just changed my hard drive (on the advice of the nice people on answers) and I like to call it a new computer.

Now methinks neither of these are exactly true so my question is which components have to be the same for you to call it the same computer? Obviously adding a new graphics card or so forth does not make it a new computer, but what if you keep your old hard drive on a new motherboard now is that the same computer?

Both actual definitions and semi philosophical answers most welcome.

  • How can I be sure that my hard drive is the problem (details below)?

Hi, my computer which has been limping along in a mostly working state for awhile has finally given up the ghost (it died whilst trying to do a scan). To the point where I can't boot it up from the disk (so I can't get to any of the repair windows or anything) and shows different error messages each time.

My hard drive has been making clicking noises for awhile usually just prior to it crashing so I'm fairly sure it is the root of the problem. My question is, is there any way to test the hard drive so I know it's definitely the problem before I pay for a new one?

  • Where can I find the later episodes of Prince of Tennis OVA?

I have the first five episodes but I can only find the RAW versions (original Japanese with no subtitles) from episode 6 on. It's very annoying watching it without understanding most of what people are saying.

I already tried Youtube and mininova and there's nothing on ebay or amazon. Thanks for the help.

  • I have several .avi files that show a green screen when they are played, What's going on?

So I have been downloading a load of .avi files (in one torrent), most of them are fine but some of them show no picture only a green screen (The audio is fine). This is when played either in windows media player or Real alternative. Is this something that's happened to other people do I just need to re-download them or should I be worried about my computer memory or a virus or something?

  • What scanner do I need to scan in negatives (black and white)?

I have lots of black and white negatives (showing images taken from a microscope). I want to make digital copies of these images, in the past I have used a digital camera attached to a light box to take photos. However this camera is now broken and when I use our scanner to scan in the images they come out too dark.

I need a scanner which shines light through the negative and takes the image from the top. I'm not to bothered about fancy resolution or anything as I'm not making pictures just storing the images. There seems to be a large range of very confusing choices, so any suggestions of a good cheap model.

  • How do I fix my computer (details below)?

My computer keeps freezing. It loads up OK( usually) but then crashes after a couple of minutes. Been trying to fix it but it doesn't run long enough to finish running a registry patrol scan or virus scan. Any ideas? Can I run it in a different mode or something to stop it from crashing whilst I run tests.

I'm on windows XP, (am using registry patrol because it looks simpler to run than XP medic).

(Can I have simple jargon free step by step instructions please, I can work a computer but am definately not an expert).

  • A question for those watching the subbed version. When do the fillers on Naruto end?

I've now watched up to episode 174 of Naruto, and sad to say I'm bored. I think if I watch one more pointless filler I will stop watching it altogether, which would be a shame because I've enjoyed them. (I've been keeping myself happy watching Bleach instead, but now they have the stupid Bount storyline, which is nearly as annoying)

So my (not so cunning) plan is to skip to the next relevant to the story episode. So my question is simply what episode number should I start watching from again so I don't miss anything important?

  • Why are there so many talking cats in manga?

Has anyone else noticed this: We have Yourichi in Bleach, Kyo in Fruits Basket and Luna in Sailor Moon. I'm sure there are more but these are the ones who come to mind. It's got so that I can say 'Wow the cat spoke', 'it's a talking cat', 'he/she transformed into a cat' in Japanese, probably not very useful in everyday conversation.

Is there a reason for this? Are talking cats part of Japanese mythology or something? Or does it just make a good story.

  • How do I draw a helix on my computer?

I need to draw helices on my computer to export into word (as cartoon versions of an alpha helix for anyone who knows biology) is there an easy way to do this using the standard windows software? Failing that is there a way to change the colours on images I 'steal' from the internet.

  • What is the best manga to recommend to my Mother?

OK, so I accidently left one of my mangas at my Mother's when I went to stay. She read it (I'm fairly sure the wrong way) decided it was rubbish and threw it away (haven't quite forgiven her yet).

I want to prove to her that manga can have as much depth as a 'normal' book. I want suggestions of the best series to start her on, nothing too violent or too silly. My aim is to convert her and much more importantly prove my point (a little juvenile I know, but I feel she is missing out by being a snob).

  • How many episodes of Naruto have been aired?

As far as I can tell it's 202 but is that only the dubbed version? Are there more of the Japanese version.

I'm on episode 122 now and want to know how soon I will start running out, so I can start preparing for the withdrawal symptoms.

  • You are obsessed with anime and manga if.....?

    Some to get us started

You start calling your older brother Nii-San

You understand more Japanese than the languages you were taught at school.

you make excuses to go home early so you can watch the latest episode of....

You throw out all your partner's/ parent's/ housemate's books so you can fit more manga in.

You say aryato (spelling?) instead of thank you when someone passes the salt.

OK lets hear some good ones mine are kind of lame.

  • What is the worst dubbing you have ever seen on an anime?

We've all seen them, fantastic anime series (and not so fantastic for that matter) with terrible Japanese to English dubbing. What we need now is a definitive answer to which is the worst.

  • How much Manga and anime do you own?

I've just counted all my manga (I was bored waiting for something to download) I have 602 manga and 27 anime boxsets. I was just wondering how that compared to other people? Also is it possible to have too much manga? If so how much is too much?

  • Naruto- What is the strange toggle like thing that hangs from his shoulder?

It's been doing my head in, what is it? it looks kind of like a weird short pencil. Plus why does he wear orange? I wouldn't have thought it was a very good colour for sneaking up on people.

It's been a few days since anyone asked a Naruto question and I thought people might be getting withdrawal symptoms.

  • How can you determine the relative abundances of different formations in an electron microscope?

Sorry for the technical question but does anyone out there work on EMs.

Basically I work on a protein which has two different conformations (which can be distinguished under an EM) I just need a way of describing the abundances of them beyond 'there looks like theres more x than y'. So I can put some numbers to my data.

Does anyone know if there is a standard technique for this out there? And what it would be called so I can do a proper PubMed search (or even better a citation). Ahhh There's never anyone in the EM section when I need them.

    Thanks

  • Designing PCR primers is it worse to have a low tm or 2ndry structure?

This may be a bit of a long shot but for those of you who do a lot of PCR:

I'm designing primers (for site directed mutagenisis) unfortunately to get the section I need they will need to have a low tm or a strong secondary structure. Which one should I go for?

  • How do I find out how my gas and electric suppliers are?

Hi, I don't know who my gas and electric companies are. I remember in my last flat I rang some company and they could tell me my suppliers, but I can't remember who they were. Strangely no one else seems to have heard of them.

    National something I think
