I am applying at Washington & Jefferson college and the application required a 250-500 word personal statement. The word count was the only guideline. I'm not a super great writer and I really wasn't sure how to go about writing it so any feed back would be great! Thanks in advance

It was two years ago when my father passed away after a sudden battle with cancer. I was only 15 at the time and found myself in disbelief. I had always been close with him and could not understand why this had to happen. Although I will never be able fathom why it had to happen, I did learn from this disconsolate experience that it is important to stay strong and persevere even when times are hard and things in life change drastically. I had to be strong so that the rest of my family didn’t have to for once. I knew it was important for me to keep trying my hardest at everything I do and to not let a bad situation turn me into something I’m not. I continued to focus on becoming the best student I could possibly be academically as well as outside of the classroom. I have been able to maintain high honors all throughout high school while also participating in various clubs, sports, and activities such as science club, volleyball, and dance. I strive to be one of the top students of my graduating class. In order to better my education I take any honors, AP, or college courses that are available at my school. I have a strong desire to succeed and I will not let anything bring me down. Over the past two years I have been able to personally see that someone can motivate you and inspire you even after they have passed away. After first hearing stories of how my father had gone back to college to better his life and his career, I decided that it was time for me to get serious about college and to find the right campus and career choice for me so I could begin my road to success right after high school by attending the best college for me. Knowing that he went back to school to better himself shows just how important his education and family was to him. I too want to better myself through college and to continue to grow as a person. Washington & Jefferson is the perfect college for me to achieve this. I will be comfortable in the smaller campus atmosphere and I believe that I will be able to thrive in it. I hope that Washington & Jefferson College is the place where I can begin my college education and the place where I will prepare for whatever my future holds.

I have to do a project on Islam and its affects on Afghanistan politics and RECENT history. All the sites ive tried to go to are really confusing or not giving me the information i need. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance (:

I dont take any piano lessons but from tutorial videos and playing by ear i can figure it out but nothing hard i need a relitively popular not too fast song that has a good beat and doesnt just repeat itself. i already know boston by augustana and the intro to it ends tonight by all american rejects................ i am going for those kinds of songs please or anything by all time low or mayday parade

i am 13 years old and i wanted to start writing a story and this is what i got so far. don't be to mean please but i would like some comments thanks

The sun was shining through the small, square window at the top of the room. Jasey rolled over to see Eva’s bed empty, as usually. Jasey slowly walked down the hall and stopped as she saw Eva, staring out the window. She had probably been there for hours. Jasey turned away and tried to choke back her tears. She could not bear to see Eva so upset. Eva just looked out the window, scrawny hands placed up against the glass; her blue eyes looked dazed and confused as tears streamed down her face. She did this almost every morning since she moved in with Jasey and her mother. After Eva’s parents died, she had not been the same. Jasey could remember the old Eva. She was always smiling, and running around, letting her blonde hair flow in the gentle wind, but not anymore.

Jasey silently walked behind Eva and placed her hand on her bony shoulder. Eva was motionless. Jasey forced Eva to her feet, and then practically carried her back to her bed. Eva was very scrawny and skinny for a fourteen year old girl, which made it easy for Jasey to lift her. Eva fell asleep, but it was too late for Jasey to go back to bed.

Jasey walked into her mother’s room to make sure she was still okay. She had been sick for quite awhile. Her mother thought it was influenza, but it continued to come back. Jasey tried to get her to see a doctor, but so far her attempts were worthless. Her mother warned her to keep a distance incase her illness was contagious. Remembering what her mother had said Jasey exited the room, leaving her mother to sleep. Jasey decided that today was going to be a good day for her and Eva. She wanted to give Eva at least one good day of fun before she became more upset. That seemed to be what would happen. As the days went on Eva would become more and more depressed.

When Eva awoke, Jasey tossed her a dress, which she had made for her. It was not in great condition, but it was the best she could do, and honestly it was probably the best piece of clothing Eva had. Eva stared at the dress, and then at Jasey. Jasey’s pleading eyes forced Eva to smile and put on the dress. The two of them walked down a path leading to the fields that they loved to play in. On the walk they avoided taking any major streets, trying to stay clear of seeing anyone they knew. Although they went to a small school they still knew enough people, and not one of them liked them.

Eva still seemed dazed, like she did not know where she was. Once they arrived at the fields, Jasey tried to change Eva’s mood by suggesting something that Eva loved to do. Jasey challenged Eva to a race across the fields. Eva accepted, but with little enthusiasm. The girls ran as fast and hard as they could through the grassy fields. Eva’s long legs made it easy for her to run with great speed. As they approached the end, Eva playfully gave Jasey a push causing her to fall into a puddle of cloudy water. Both girls turned to each other and began laughing hysterically. Eva’s smile was sincere, which made Jasey happier than Eva would ever know. They stayed to watch the sunset and talked the whole time. Jasey loved the vibrant colors of the sunset. The pinks, purples, reds, oranges and yellow colors made Jasey feel at peace with the world, like her life was perfect and nothing was wrong. They then walked home and went straight to sleep.

The next morning was very different than any morning had been in a long time. Jasey woke up to see Eva in her bed sleeping. Jasey got out of bed and went to the kitchen to see if she has any food to make for Eva, her mother and herself. Jasey grabbed the last three pieces of bread and put a thin coat of jelly on it.

I am 14 years old and I kind of want to start writing a short book like 150-200 pages. I am an okay writer but I need a topic. Any ideas. I was going for a kind of drama/romance sort of thing with like a kind of deeper meaning. Maybe ideas from song like lullabies by all time low but not so, please help if you can!
