  • What should I consider getting for my financial future?

I'm 28, recently moved to a new rental apartment in a new city, and thus a new job. (Seems stable so far, but we'll see.) I have a non-Roth IRA, a money market account, and a checking account. I have never owned a credit card, but have had a cell phone in my name for over 2 years. I've never owned a house, and don't plan to in the next few years. My car is 1997, I've owned it for 5 years, and has been paid off for about 2 years. What are some sound considerations I should make for my financial future?

  • What's happening in April?

Hey all! I've got a vacation coming up April 14-27th, and I'm planning to tour the middle of the country; places like Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Minnesota, and Wisconsin (I'm from Wisconsin). So, does anyone know if there's any big events coming up along those two weeks I'd want to check out? Anything I might want to avoid would be appreciated, so I don't pull into a town and can't get a hotel room because there's a Liver festival going on or something.

  • How many coin flips?

Let's say I can flip a fair coin as many times as I want, and for simplicity, I will call heads each time. I am looking for a correct result at least 10 times. (in other words, 10 or more results of heads) I would like to know the minimum number of flips it would take to expect to get at least 10 correct coin flips more than half the time. In other words, p(#Heads => 10) => .5, and consequently, p(#Tails < n-10) <= .5, where n = number of flips. If this is found easily enough, feel free to tack on a number of flips to make it even more likely, say .75 or .95. Thanks in advance!

  • How many flips?

I have a deck in Magic: the Gathering that is based around a card which, basically, says that if I win 10 coin flips (doesn't have to be consecutive, losses don't count against me, assume a fair coin with heads and tails) I win the game. I would like to know how many coin flips it would take to have better than a 50% chance of having at least 10 wins. For example, at 10 flips, my chance would be (1/2)^10 as I would have to win all 10. From there, the odds get better as I'm allowed to lose an increasing number of flips. If you can figure this easily enough, feel free to throw in how many it would take to have a 75% (or something similarly dominant) chance of winning at least 10 flips. Thanks in advance.

  • What's the base system for relationships?

I've always wondered what first base, second base, and third base refer to. (I think I'm confident on what home plate is.) I never really got the whole base system, but then again I wasn't dating in high school (as you may have guessed from the pic). Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  • The (Fill in coach name here) Show?

Here in Wisconsin, we have a syndicated show called the Mike McCarthy Show during the football season. Basically there's a host, the coach, and a bunch of fans asking questions. We've had this for a while, at least since the Mike Holmgren era (it was called the Mike Holmgren Show then, duh) and I know they had a similar thing in Minnesota when I lived close enough to get their TV stations. My question is: Are there shows like this for every football team? Is there a Jon Gruden Show, or Herm Edwards Show, or Bill Bellichek Show? Is it always syndicated, or are there some on more major networks? Thanks in advance.

  • Why do bars need to close (and read before you answer please)?

I know there are laws stating bars have to close at a certain time, and that will vary from state to state. The question is why? Why can't the party go on all night? Why can't you stop in for a drink at 4 am? Drunk drivers? Moral issues? Noise pollution? Antiquated laws that need to be reconsidered? Why do these laws exist? And no, "For public safety" doesn't explain anything.

  • Liposuction for someone who doesn't plan to get it?

Let's face it, I'm fat. I'm 5'11, 275 pounds. I have a good amount of flab around my midsection. I'm not so old that I can't start working out, but the thought of liposuction comes into play. I'm not planning to do it, mainly because I think it's expensive and kinda cheating, but I don't know much about it. If I could remove 40 pounds for 50 bucks, I'd be all in for that. If it were 10 pounds for 5,000 dollars, not a chance. I figure the truth is maybe somewhere between those extremes, probably closer to the second quote. So what do you say? How much would you think I could lose and how much would it cost? I figure finding out will be enough to ensure I stop thinking about it and start exercising. Thanks in advance.

  • Why is there a last call?

Ok, so I'm not sure how it works outside the US, or indeed in other US states, but here in Wisconsin, bars have to close at 2 am, 2:30 am on weekends, except for New Year's. I'm not sure the exact reason this law exists. Drunk Drivers? Noise disruption? Religious doubletalk? Antiquated carryover from prohibition? Thanks in advance.

  • Classic Riddle?

There is a man, a certain man,

And for the poor you may be sure that he'll do all he can.

Who is this one? Whose favorite son,

That by his actions has the traction magnates on the run?

Who likes a smoke? Enjoys a joke?

And wouldn't get a bit upset if he were really broke?

Through wealth and fame, he's still the same.

I'll bet you five you're not alive if you don't know his name.

    (who am I?)

  • Song ID if you please?

There was a song out like a year ago that sampled the Archies' "Sugar Sugar" and I think the title was Nasty Girl. It was pretty sophomoric but it grew on me. Anyone able to verify the title and/or provide the artist?

  • Possession Arrow?

I've wondered this for a while. In high school and college basketball, there's a possession arrow to determine who gets the ball on a tieup so they don't need to do a jump ball. How is it determined who has the possession arrow at a given time?

  • Deleting a folder I can't access?

I've got a folder on my computer that I can't delete or fully open. The problem, I think, is that I was burning my N.E.R.D. CD, and the folder is enititled "In Search Of.." I'm guessing the double period is messing with things. It's not a pressing matter, in fact it's been like that for a year or so. Can't change the name, move the folder, delete the folder, anything. Any help?

  • Jailbird jokes?

So it's this guy's first night in jail. He's sitting in his cell with his cellmate when from out of nowhere he hears someone yell "Number 9!", and the entire cell block cracks up. Another person yells "Number 12!" and again uproarous laughter. The guy turns to his cellmate and asks him what's up with the numbers. His cellmate tells him, "Well, we've been here so long we all know every joke we tell, so we gave them all numbers. That way, someone can just yell out the number to tell the joke!" So later that day, our jailbird decides to tell a joke. He yells out "Number 8!" Silence. Nobody laughs or even says a word. He asks his cellmate what happened?

"Listen man, some people can tell a joke, and some can't"
