  • Logic Math Problem/Algebra 2?

Mr. and Mrs. Adams recently attended a party at which there were three other married couples. Various handshakes took place. No one shook hands with his/her spouse, no one shook hands twice with the same person, and of course, no one shook his/her own hand. After all the handshaking was finished, Mr. Adams asked each person, including his wife, how many hands he or she had shaken. To his surprise, each gave a different answer. How many hands did Mrs. Adams shake? Explain how you approached this problem.

  • Logic Math Problem???

1000 students are standing in line in front of 1000 closed lockers.

The first student goes down the line of lockers and opens all 1000 lockers. The second student goes down the line of lockers and closes every second locker.

The third student goes down the line of lockers and changes the position of every third locker. (If the locker is closed, she opens it; if it is open, she closes it.)

The fourth student goes down the line of lockers and changes the position of every fourth locker…and so on…

The problem: If this continues through all 1000 students, which lockers will remain open at the end? Is there a logical or algebraic reason why you got the results you did?

    please explain your process

  • Logic/Probability Question?

Three prisoners are in a dungeon. A hat is placed on each prisoner’s head so that each prisoner can see the hats on the other prisoners but not the one on his own head.

The hats were chosen from three WHITE hats and two RED hats.

The King will grant freedom to any prisoner who can figure out the color of the hat on his own head.

The first prisoner is asked the color of his own hat but says, “I don’t know.

The second prisoner is then asked the color of this hat but also responds, “I don’t know.”

The third prisoner is blind, yet was still able to identify the color of his hat!!!

What color was the third prisoner’s hat and by what reasoning did this blind prisoner figure it out?
