  • How do I solve this problem?

A 12.6-L sample of a gaseous hydrocarbon, measured at 1.00 atm pressure and 25.0°C, is burned in excess oxygen liberating 1.14 × 10^3 kJ of heat at constant pressure. What is the identity of the hydrocarbon? (R = 0.0821 L · atm/(K · mol))

    Substance

    ∆H°f (kJ/mol)

    CO2(g) –393.5

    H2O(l) –285.8

    a) ethane (C2H6, ∆H°f = –84.68 kJ/mol)

    b) ethylene (C2H4, ∆H°f = 52.47 kJ/mol)

    c) acetylene (C2H2, ∆H°f = 226.73 kJ/mol)

    d) propane (C3H8, ∆H°f = –104.7 kJ/mol)

    e) propylene (C3H6, ∆H°f = 20.41 kJ/mol)

  • Which one of the following statements provides the best evidence that all the carbon compounds...?

listed below have tetrahedral molecular geometries instead of square planar molecular geometries?

    a) Only one CH4 compound is known and it is nonpolar.

    b) Only one CF4 compound is known and it is nonpolar.

    c) Only one CH3F compound is known and it is polar.

    d) Only one CH2F2 compound is known and it is polar.

    e) Only one CHF3 compound is known and it is polar.

I know the answer is D, but I do not know why; an explanation would be much appreciated.

  • Should I start Rob Gronkowski or Jordan Reed?

I'm generally quite strong in setting my lineups (I am 1rst in 4 of my 8 Yahoo! leagues), but given that the two are arguably the top 2 TE's for Week 11 (Top 3 if Graham does not have a snap limit this week) I cannot confidently choose one over the other. My league is PPR, so I am leaning Gronk, but Dobson has been hot which could take away targets from Gronk. The same argument can be applied to Reed, though, since Garcon is on fire. Anyway, additional input would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • What do you think of my poem?

    It is for creative writing

    School Bus Prison

I look out the bus window,

will this wretched music ever end?

Nothing I do makes it go away

as I stare out the window,

    a headache starting to form.

Car after car, tree after tree,

    all zoom by like light,

    There one second,

    behind me the next.

    Even with these distractions,

the music still fills my head.

As the school comes up in the distance I smile,

    I have escaped the prison,

    the music is over

  • What is your opinion of my scene for creative writing?

I am just curious, it is our first assignment (one semester class), and wanted some input. It is title Thunder and Lightning.

Note: It is JUST a scene, not a short story.

The room’s rust-colored walls only make the room seem darker as the sun falls below the horizon; Jake is sitting in his oak wood chair, hunched over his desk with only his arms keeping his head up. As the sun continues to fall, his face remains expressionless, his grey eyes barely blinking as he looks out into the distance, where the sun’s rays fail to reach.

About to fall asleep he notices Geoff, his friend of thirteen years, walking towards his house, slightly hunched over with hands in pockets. Wondering what he was doing coming over this late, Jake stands up, letting out a long sigh in the process. He rubs his eyes and goes for the stairs just as Geoff opens the door. Jake sees him and a little more energy is added to his step, he lets go of the railing and speeds up his walk. As he turns to go down the last six steps of the staircase, his foot catches on the pile of clothes his mom told him to pick up the night before, he loses his footing, and starts head first towards the hardwood floor.

Jake wakes up. Shooting pains. He can’t feel his legs, his head hurts. Shooting pains. Jake looks as far left as he can, trying not to move his neck, avoiding the pain. He sees two IV packets, one with A+ blood, dark red, the other with morphine; it isn’t doing its job. Shooting pains. On the right there is a heart monitor. Its constant beeping is soothing. He closes his eyes, letting the beeping fill his ears. Beep… Beep… Beep.

There is a knock on the door, a male Caucasian doctor, around 5’ 10” walks in, proudly wearing a Harvard pin on his white lab coat. His thin grey hair combed over to the right exposing multiple liver spots on his scalp, his worn face hiding a smile.

The feeling in Jake’s legs is starting to return; his head still hurts. Shooting pains.

“Do you remember what happened?” The doctor says, almost scripted.

“Last I remember, I saw Geoff walking to my house and… aughhhhhh.” The shooting pain goes throughout Jake’s head.

“Well,” the doctor replies, looking down at some papers, “you fell down the stairs, landed head first. It seems that you may also have a concussion but more tests will be needed to confirm it.”

The news comes to Jake like a lightning strike, half suspected, but more powerful then one thinks.

Another knock and in comes a petite nurse with a syringe filled with clear medicine. She attaches it to one of the IV tubes.

“I need you to count from fifty backwards.”

“Fifty, fortynine, fortyeight, forty-seven… forty – six… for … yawn … ty seven.” Lights out.

Jake wakes up to see the doctor, Geoff, and Jake’s family sitting around his bed. The doctor is looking down at what Jake makes to be the test results. He seems reluctant to look up at Jake. “You do have a concussion, but there is also some brain hemorrhaging,” the doctor says, more scripted then last time, “You need surgery. We will begin prep in twenty minutes.” The thunder has sounded.

  • What are some great tear-jerker movies?

Very few movies (4) have brought a tear to my eye. Seven Pounds, Pursuit of Happiness, Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and The Green Mile. Now, I have seen Titanic, Marley and Me, My Sister's Keeper, as well as other sad movies. I want to know one that is good but will bring tears. I just feel so weird that movies, typically, do not bring them, especially when they are supposed to.

  • Will LT break the record for career rushing TDs?

He is in second with 144, needs 20 to tie Emmit Smith, so of course, 21 to pass. Because of his age, I think he'd have to stay for this season and next. Also, I don't think he will if there is not a full season this year. Thoughts?

  • Why do people use Yahoo! Answers?

It actually wastes time. Instead of looking up an answer themselves, they take the time to post it, as well as wait for responses. For opinion questions, I understand, but asking what a ____ is, why not just look it up instead of wasting your Yahoo! points?

  • Should NFL fans boycott the NFL?

Considering there is not a full season (i.e. The 8-game contingency plan), because of the lockout, do you think fans should boycott. You know, no buying merchandise, going to or watching games, fantasy football, etc. I do. We are the ones who bring in the money that goes to the owners and players and coaches. The $9,000,000,000 in profit they get annually come from us. $1,000,000,000 goes to owners, and just under 60% went to players in the salary cap. I am not sure where the rest of the money goes. But, if fans boycott an incomplete season, they will lose tons of money. Us fans cannot just accept the lockout!

Me: COMP ATT YDS PassTD INT YPG COMP% YPC QBRTG

    174 217 5041 66 0 420 80 28.9 375.7
