  • Home wiring - will I be ok only prewiring cat5e?

Looking for opinions. I'm buying a new house and need to make a decision regarding wiring. Phone pre-wiring is included so leave that out of the equation, but any additional wiring is out of pocket.

In an attempt to keep costs down I'm thinking of only wiring cat5e and not coaxial cable. There is FIOS tv in my area, so that will work with the cat5e. I'd get the benefit of having a nice ethernet backbone in my house, which I'd really like.

To me installing coax seems like a waste since it's just for cable tv/internet, but I'm concerned about losing the choice between service providers. I plan to live in the house for many years so the cat5e also seems like the better long term solution.

    Thoughts?

  • Sprung Car door on Chevy, suggestions for how to fix?

The car is a 2000 Chevy Prizm. The passenger door was open and got caught as the car was slowly backing up, so the door got over extended or "sprung". I'd say it got pulled about a foot farther than it is supposed to go. There is some damage to the fender and the door panel, and obviously the door doesn't close very well. It does latch and open/close though.

We don't have collision so it will be out of pocket repairs (in PA if that helps), so what would anyone recommend as the cheapest way to go about getting the car door working and able to pass inspection? I have only gotten one estimate so far, but do places exist that will just repair it without needing to get a new door?

  • How can I rent a classic taxi in Manhattan?

We are getting married this summer in Manhattan, and wanted to get one of those classic taxi cabs to take us to a few spots to take pictures. I've been having trouble finding a place that has these, but I know they exist. Anyone know where to find them?

  • Best way from Staten Island (near ferry) to Midtown Manhattan on a Saturday?

I need to drive from near the ferry in Staten Island to Midtown Manhattan (48th and Lexington) on a Saturday around 5:30-6pm this summer. What would the fastest way be, and how long do you think it would take. Right now I'm thinking about 80 minutes if I go Verrazano to Brooklyn Bridge? Thanks

I absolutely must drive, cannot take ferry or any public transit this time.

  • My HP dv1000 series laptop randomly shuts off, and doesn't turn back on indefinitely.?

I realize this has been posted, but it needs more detail. In short it is not overheating and not a virus. I've checked both. It is also not the AC adapter or the battery. It is appears to be a problem with the laptop series design from what I've gathered online from others with the exact same problem.

    My observations:

-taking it apart all the way until you have just CPU/mem/mobo and putting back together seems to many times magically resuscitate it, but not always.

-putting the screws on very loosely when reconstructing, and with as few as possible, seems to make it more resistant to this behavior.

-when it shuts off, it is often during a twisting or jostling motion.

-There will be times it will not turn on for days, then times it will act like normal for days even through very heavy use.

My laptop is 2 yrs old and out of warranty. Any suggestions on what I could do to either get HP to fix free or fix on my own?
