  • Location to purchase Marine engine?

I am looking to purchase a replacement motor for our boat. It is a Volvo Penta 4.3L 190HP engine. I have Googled and called and emailed several locations and apparently none are interested in selling their motors since they refuse to respond. Does anyone know of a reputable place that builds these type motors I can Google or contact?

    Thanks

  • Flushing Boat Engine?

After being outside and covered all winter I purchased a motor flush unit that clamps on to the water inlets on the foot of my inboard/outboard. After running the engine for a few minutes we noticed sludge coming out of the discharge. That's great but today when I went out to prepare to change the oil I opened the rear deck and the same sludge was all over the engine. I'm not sure where it came from. I can only assume no previous owner ever flushed this thing out and build up caused this. The sludge is a light brown so I can assume after cleaning it that everything should be OK?

Does anyone have any idea if this is normal?

  • What is the name of the CD Compilation on TV which includes Evanescence?

I can not for the life of me remember the name of this multi CD that is now showing on TV for sale. I remember Evanescence is on the collection since they are usually the first one shown in the commercial. Most of the bands are more current bands and I think Seether is also on these CD's. Anyone know the name of the collection?

  • Safe Boat Hull Cleaner?

I am looking for a hull cleaner I can use while our boat is in the water. Many times during a weekend we anchor and jump out and swim. This would be a perfect time to scrub down the hull of the boat. The problem is the cleaner needs to be safe for the creatures living in the lake. Can you give me any suggestions on a brand and whether you use a sponge or rag to do the work? Thanks

  • Garboard Drain Plug Question?

The boats I've had in the past used either a snap handle or twist drain plug. Well on my latest boat it has a Garboard drain plug which I've never dealt with. I opened it recently to let it drain and am really wondering should this thing have some teflon tape (plumbers tape) wrapped around it to prevent leaking into the boat. Or maybe some kind of marine tape if it exist?

  • Prop & pitch - Confused?

Now that I've gotten a new boat, a Larson LXi 186 with a Volvo Penta 190hp 4.3L engine, I attempted to pull skiers and it just won't get anyone out of the water. It's not the trim since I tried many different settings and 100% to the stern was one of them. Right now I have a 23P prop on this boat and at first I was told by several people that I needed to go to a 19P or even a 17P. I would lose top end speed but would be able to yank almost anyone out of the water.

Well today I get some other advice that I need to go up to a 26P since the blades would be larger. Or stick with the 23 and go from 3 blade to 4 blade. Now with all this said I'm not sure what direction to take.

I'm not overly concerned with losing top end speed, right now it's 48-49. I want to be able to pull skiers and boarders out of the water with ease and get the boat on plane much quicker than it does now.

Note that we tried pulling skiers with just two people in the boat and with also with four people in the boat, two on the bow and two in the mid and neither worked. Also these are experienced skiers including myself so it's not from lack of experience.

  • Starboard & Port Lights?

I've just purchased a Larson LXi I/O. This was our first weekend to put it in the water. We were going to head out for a dusk ride and found out the port and starboard lights do not work. I insert the stern light and turn on the switch and the stern light does come on. Wouldn't you think the bow lights would come on at the same time with the same switch? This boat is a 2000 model and everything appears to be in top working order except for these lights. Am I missing a switch or do you think the bulbs are burned out or maybe a wiring issue? I appreciate any and all feedback and steps I might take in resolving the issue.

  • Inboard/Outboard Prop?

Can anyone tell me whats the difference in an aluminum and a stainless 3 blade prop besides the obvious...price? Maybe strength? What would be the advantage of me purchasing one over the other?

    TIA
