  • Converting a function of ξ(log m) to ξ(m)?

    There is a function ξ such that ξ is a function of log(m) ---> ξ(log m)

    ξ(log m) is equal to Am^(-x) ---> ξ(log m) = A * m^(-x)

    1. How do you convert this from a function of ξ(log m) to ξ(m)?

    2. When you do #1, would this function simplify to ξ(m) = A * (10^m) ^ (-x)?

    My thought process behind this is to substitute the original m for 10^m to cancel out the log.

    3. Why is such notation being used? i.e. Why is the ξ a function of (log m) and not just (m)?

    Please don't tell me that this notation is stupid because its being used by astrophysicists.

    Please don't tell me that I am stupid for not finding this obvious. :[ I don't want to screw up in my research data.
