I am 16, and I have been riding horses since I was 6, I live on my family's horse farm in Canada, and I barrel race competitively (I will be re-joining the OBHA & NBHA when my 3 year old is finished his training!!- can't wait!). This summer I am going on tour with the Dodge Rodeo in Canada. I am a 'farm girl' I guess you would call it! Love to have fun and I don't mind getting my hands a bit dirty. I've been through just about everything with my family's horses, so I decided to join Yahoo to put my gained experiences to use. Hopefully I can help!

  • Okay...Show Names--lame I know, but I'm bored?! lol?

Okay..So my 3 yr old AQHA is registered as Chocolate Frosting, which I used to like and it's fine for Western Pleasure, Showmanship and Halter...but eventually I will be training him for barrel racing and I really don't think Chocolate Frosting comes across as a fierce competitor--more like a children's pony or a horse that someone let their 2 yr old name...

So I'd like opinions on what to use as his barrel racing show name, please don't tell me to go with his reg. name, I will have to in breed shows, I know that...but just for rodeos and NBHA...

He is a 3 yr old AQHA registered Quarter Horse, bay roan with a star on his forehead, a white sock on his back right and a coronet band on his back left...

I can't find his pedigree online...but he has Chocolate Chip, Rugged Lark and Dash For Cash in him--his Dam was: Watta Madness and his Sire was: A Dash Of Blue

I would like to incorporate Frost into his name somehow, his barn name is Frostie..

Here are some pictures of him...I know they aren't the GREATEST pics, but its a start :)

  • Stall and Pasture Toys?

My 3 yr old Quarter horse gelding has a bad habit of weaving (eek, but there is no stopping it unfortunately!) and chewing on our wood encased stock tank...

I have tried one of those "Uncle Jimmy's Hanging Balls" toys in his stall--basically a big ball of sweet-feed and molasses with a string on it, he chews it, but he also gets COVERED in molassases and grain bits--its hard to clean off and he hates getting his ears wetted down with water and then me trying my hardest to dry them off before he goes back outside...and it also doesnt keep his attention for very long..

I am planning to buy a jolly ball for his stall, but I am wondering what I can do in the paddock--he is with 5 other horses and I don't want to give him like a treat ball or anything food-like as he is low on the "pecking order" and will just get chased off it by the other horses anyways...has anyone had any luck with large balls that horses cant ruin? My dad is getting really mad at him as he is basically destroying our stock tank, not to mention he almost has also pulled the heater out of the wall a few times (by the cord, as it is plugged in through a hole in the barn wall into a socket inside the barn) and the water froze...we have tried no-chew, tabasco sauce, chilli paste, everything! He just chews it more--he actually liked the Tabasco sauce...

    Any Ideas would be great!

    Thanks guys!
