need some help finding a rem 700?
hey everyone, i got asked a few days ago to look into making a vietnam era M40 clone. now i'm looking for either a complete rifle or a barreled action to serve as the base for the project. did remington ever commercially produce a .308 rem 700 with a heavy profile 24" barrel? preferably with a 1:10 twist rate?
thanks guys!
3 AnswersHunting9 years agoreviewing for a college math placement test?
hello everyone, i'm 22 years old and will be attending college for the first time this fall. i've been out of the game for 4 years and i'm a little nervous about how i should prepare. algebra shouldn't' be a problem, but i'm worried about calc and trig. i have 4 to 6 months to whip my brain into shape, anyone know some places online that would help me refresh? also, 5 years ago i scored a 1850 on the SAT. if i studied like i was retaking that would that be enough?
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)9 years agoanyone else eager to see glock come out with a glock 40?
i know i am, something like a single stack .22lr would really be fun! could you imagine the conversations that would be going on at every gun shop in the country:
misunderstood urban youth- " Yo homie, I gots da glock fo tay, n I needs some fo tay ammo"
gun store clerk- :places box of cci mini mags on counter:
6 AnswersHunting10 years agowhat full size pistols can share mags with compacts/sub compacts?
pretty much the title question.
i know the glock series share mags. what about the S&W MP, SA XD/XDM, or beretta PX4s? or how about sig sauer?
5 AnswersHunting10 years agodorms vs commuting to college?
hello everyone, i'm 22 years old and will be going to college for the first time this spring semester. i just moved back into my parents' house because of unemployment, the commute from there to campus would only be about 9 miles.
this was my original plan, but all of my friends keep bugging me about how i'll be missing out on the whole "college experience" and how dorm life is some of the best years of their lives.the way i see it i'm not missing much. i'm 4 years older than most freshmen and the allure of freedom and being on your own is long gone. besides, i don't have the patience to deal with a bunch of rowdy drunk 18 year olds.
second, there's the matter of work. i'm a carpenter/concrete finisher by trade, i know i wont make 80 hours a week like normal plus 12 credit hours of schooling, but as long as my grades don't suffer i plan on working as much as i can. there's no way i'm leaving $2k worth of tools in the trunk of a car in a busy university parking lot, i'd stash them at my parents place which defeats the whole purpose of living in the dorms.
do you think i'm missing out? if not what do you think is a good way to break the news to my friends?
thanks :)
7 AnswersHigher Education (University +)10 years agoanyone else sick of what gun manufacturers are bringing to the table caliber wise these days?
is it just me or does it feel like "practical" caliber development has stalled in the past 50 years (and certainly in the past 20)?
did we really need a .416 rem? a .280 rem? or a 7mm-08? dont get me started on the remington ultra mags! did winchester really need to come out with the super short magnum line?...oh, or how about that brilliant idea know as the .45 GAP?
i know some of them may out perform their rivals by a small degree, but eventually diminishing returns set in. tell me what can a .375 ruger do, pushing a 270gr slug at 2,840 ft/s, that an older .375 H&H cant do pushing the same bullet at the same speed? i cant really think of any, except for it can fit into a lighter standard action rifle, though i doubt there is a big market for super light weight .375s?
16 AnswersHunting10 years agoif you were a student would you carry on campus?
pretty much the title question.
there have been a number of armed robberies/other assaults on or near campus. so far the victims have been mostly drunk frat boys walking alone at night. normally i carry a 1911 religiously, but i refrain from doing so in class. i really don't need the hassle right now of getting made by either the faculty or other students and then getting expelled.
however, my gut is telling me that that construction management degree isn't gonna help me much if i'm bleeding out on the sidewalk... your thoughts?
thanks!
10 AnswersHunting10 years agohelp sourcing some 7.62x39 ammo for shtf stash?
havent purchased any 7.62x39 in a few years and i'm now having some trouble locating some wolf military classic 124gr hp's or their equivalent.
i've looked around the internet and it appears that TulAmmo is now what used to be Wolf? this is troubling considering that the fragmenting 8m3 "sapsan" bullet in the wmc 124gr comes from the Ulyanovsk factory and not the Tula plant. i checked some places like Aim surplus and J&G sales and it looks like Ulyanovsk isn't selling any 124gr hp's
anyone have a more obscure source for some old wolf military classic or another fragmenting 7.62x39 bullet?
2 AnswersHunting10 years agowould lack of spare parts stop you from buying a particular model of pistol?
was looking around online today about buying either a HK usp tactical or springfield armory XD and i couldn't believe how hard it was to source replacement parts for them. only a handful of places sold parts for the HK, and good luck trying to find an extractor for the XD.
in contrast, i can have just about everything except for the frame shipped straight to my door if it was a 1911 or glock.
would this effect you decision? the chance of a failure is low, but if something goes down you may be looking at it being gone for several weeks as it is repaired at the factory?
7 AnswersHunting1 decade agoso what do you think will be the next big "bandwagon" to jump on in firearms?
anyone remember back in the early 90s when we could get chicom SKS's for $90? or later when all those FAL parts kits were coming in but you'd have to sacrifice a virgin to get a decent receiver to build it on (yeah, i'm looking at you DSA and your long *** wait times)? or when all those AK kits came flooding out of the eastern bloc nations?...or look around right now, we're in the middle of an AR15 renaissance (i may have missed the others but i'm in on this! got 3 builds underway right now)!
so...what do you think is gonna be the next BIG thing to come our way?
9 AnswersHunting1 decade agodo you feel safe when carrying a glock?
well i'll be turning 21 in several months and i'm thinking about adding another pistol to the safe (currently i only have a colt 1911) possibly one in 9mm. right now i'm trying to narrow down my options, and the glock is at the top of my list.
one area that concerns me is its lack of a manuel safety. truth be told, i have no idea where this apprehension comes from. i wouldn't have a problem carrying a revolver that lacked a safety or even a DA/SA like a hk usp, beretta 92, or sig p226; but each time i look at a glock i start having this comical idea in my head: "if that was a 1911 it would be in condition 0 w/ a pinned grip safety to boot! that looks a little unsafe/uncomfortable to be carrying in an IWB holster, actually i'd have to be pretty careful sitting down with that in my pants. knowing me i'd end up putting a bullet in my *** each time i plop down on the couch."
so what says YA? in the end the only true safety you have is between your ears, but does my fear have any basis in reality or is it completely irrational?
16 AnswersHunting1 decade agoSA M1a vs M1 garand?
in your opinion, does the m1a balance as well as the garand? i love the way the m1 feels in my hands and i'm wondering how that 20rd mag shifts the balance point on an m1a. does it feel muzzle heavy?
thanks...
4 AnswersHunting1 decade agowhat is in your EDC???????
title says it all, what are your every day carry items that all ways stay with you?
i'll list mine:
wallet
keys
bic lighter
cellphone
leatherman wave multitool
crkt m16 3"
depending on what i plan to do for the day, a $10 beater knife from walmart
colt 1991a1 in a bianchi IWB holster w/ a spare mag
ps if anyone carries a flashlight how do you carry it and what model? i've been trying to find a way to carry my surefire g2 for a while now. its too bulky to simply drop in my pockets and i'm trying to avoid adding another holster to my belt line.
2 AnswersHunting1 decade agoany other 5.45x39 lovers on here?
i've fallen in love with this cartridge!
2 AnswersHunting1 decade agoreloading for a .351 WSL?
so my father recently inherited a winchester 1907 in .351 winchester self-loading, only problem is we cant find ANY ammo for it. worse, i haven't even found any info on loading for it! this thing is deader than .32-20!
anyone know a source for brass and a set of dies?
4 AnswersHunting1 decade agobuilding an FAL, what is involved?
so i saw someone else ask a question of whether he should build an FAL or AR10 and it got me wondering, what is all involved in building an FAL?
what are the tools required? files? presses? anything special? the only thing that has kept me out of the AK build scene is no place to put a 20 ton press, it would be nice to do a build that didnt require one
on my latest AR "build" (more like assembling really, considering i bought a fully complete upper) the lower went together like LEGOs and then i just dropped an upper on it. from what i've read this cant be done w/ an FAL because the upper is the serialized receiver? how much work is it to install and headspace the barrel?
thanks everyone!
