What would you do in this situation?
I went for a walk tonight with my fella and whilst we were out, we were approached by a guy who offered us money and asked us to go into the local supermarket and asked us to purchase some alcohol for him. We both apologised and said we would not. The guy looked really sad and cold. There was a female standing nearby who seemed to be with him. I felt so guilty saying no but felt that it probably was best that I didn't. I now keep looking back on the situation and wishing I could have done something to help. What would you do in this situation?
4 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoInternet Explorer help required?
I am having major problems with my Internet Explorer and wondered if anyone knows why it's doing this. I recently installed a new printer (an HP one) and ever since, when I'm signed into IE, my cursor turns into a plus symbol and it's very difficult to click on any hyperlinks or buttons without clicking.
I'm sure it's something very simple and the only thing I can think of that may have caused this is the new printer I've installed. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?
Many thanks
5 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhy have we in the UK become a nation that apologises rather than preempting results?
I find more and more that people are more likely to just do something likely to cause offence / distress and then apologise rather than thinking about their actions before they do these. Why? It is not difficult to think about what you're going to say / do before you do it. We are way too impulsive as a nation. What does anyone else think?
2 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoHow would you deal with a persistent trapped nerve in the back which won't snap back?
I am stuck at home feeling sorry for myself with flu at present, however the other day, I also managed to trap a nerve in my back which normally would just snap back into place. It's now been three days though since this happened and it's not going.
I can barely walk and am in a lot of pain. I can't sit/stand in any position for very long before I have to move. I am also getting quite nasty twinges in my spine when I am walking. Any suggestions for dislodging this (sensible ones!)?
6 AnswersInjuries1 decade agoWhat are your favourite Christmas songs?
For those who celebrate Christmas and even those who don't but who do like the seasonal music.
My favourites are:
Fairytale of New York - The Pogues feat. Kirsty McCall
Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth - Bing Crosby / David Bowie
12 AnswersChristmas1 decade agoWould you take your kids on holiday during school term time?
I've just got back from a week away and was quite shocked at the number of school age children who were there - obviously on holiday with parents, even though it's the middle of the school Summer Term (in England). Do people really value education so little or is it just that holidays during the official school breaks are too expensive?
3 AnswersOther - Destinations1 decade agoWindows Vista Basic - can anyone out there advise?
I am currently running Windows Vista Basic on my PC. This was my first laptop and I didn't know at the time I bought the PC how basic 'Basic' is. I am now wanting to upgrade my PC, as I can't afford a new one, however I don't think I'm able to just install Windows 7 as the Vista Basic will not allow me to do this.
Can anyone advise how I can go about doing this (honestly) at the lowest cost? I am tearing my hair out with this software. It's awful and I don't know how they got away with releasing it.
Thanks
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWould you sit and chat to the person next to you on public transport?
At one time, this would have happened a lot, however nowadays, many people are just wrapped up in their little mobile / MP3 player worlds and don't have time for anyone around them. It's almost like we've become scared of communicating with anyone who isn't on the other end of an electronic device signal.
I'm sure the world would be a much nicer place to live in if people were more friendly with each other, even in basic situations like that. Would you chat to a stranger on the bus / train? - That is other than just commenting on the lateness...
18 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoAnyone out there know about Acer laptops?
I have an Acer laptop and broadband with Sky. For a couple of months now, the connection has been randomly dropping every few minutes. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it and the connection is still there in the background. It just seems to be something the software is doing.
Does anyone else out there have this problem / has anyone managed to solve it?
Many thanks
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoHelp with my Citroen C3 please?
I have a Citroen C3 and recently it's been making a lot of screeching noises whilst I'm driving. It squeals when I brake, but also, it makes a squealing noise whilst I'm actually driving.
This is my first car and I'm not very sure about car engines, etc. Is there anyone out there who knows why it might be doing this? I am wondering whether it may need an oil change or something like that, however, when I've taken it to the garage to get it checked out, the stupid thing behaved and didn't make any noise at all.
Many thanks
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhat are they doing with the Junction 27 roundabout on the M62?!?
Now I may be imagining this but the last few times I've passed there, I've noticed that they've put a footpath all the way around the actual centre of the roundabout. There must be at least two motorway exits leading onto that roundabout and various roads leading on and off. Who is going to be daft enough to try and cross it?
Does anyone know what is happening there and if they are actually planning to make the roundabout safer by installing traffic lights? I believe this may have been in the plans at one point.
2 AnswersLeeds1 decade agoWhat's the attraction in smoking?
I am not a fan of smoking / smokers and have been increasingly frustrated by the number of people taking it up over the years. I know that I as one person can not change this but it still really saddens me. There's nothing worse than seeing a pregnant female light up and sometimes I feel like saying something to them.
My question is, what is it, other than addiction which keeps people smoking?
22 AnswersSociology1 decade agoA question for you ladies out there...?
Does anyone know where I can get a pair of patterned top opaque tights? I'm going to a wedding around Christmas time and am looking for some plain tights but with a patterned top to go with my outfit. Many thanks for your help.

15 AnswersOther - Beauty & Style1 decade agoJust for fun or mindless vandalism?
What does anyone else think about the water fight which made a complete mess of the Millenium Square fountain in Leeds city centre? I notice that only three of these selfish people have so far volunteered to "assist" in repairing the area.
Should this have been stopped by Facebook? Should the individuals involved be tracked down and forced to pay for the damage? There's enough video evidence to catch every one of them.
What do you think?
4 AnswersLeeds1 decade agoN95 and Windows Vista Basic?
I'm trying to install Nokia PC Suite onto my laptop which has Vista Basic on it. I have installed the software but when i try to connect my phone, it goes through the installing device drivers stage then will not actually connect the phone. Anyone out there know what could be causing this?
Many thanks.
Laptops & Notebooks1 decade agoHow can I deal with stress?
I suffer from stress and anything from someone cutting me up whilst driving to people barging into me / letting doors go on me can set me off. It's usually just other people's pure bad manners. Does anyone else have this? How do you deal with it?
The anger can be so bad, that I end up physically shaking from it and on several occasions, I've actually had a go at people.
No silly joke answers please, this is serious for me.
9 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoYorkshire Evening Post?
Why is it that you can buy the Yorkshire Evening Post at 10 o'clock in the morning? Surely this contradicts the whole point of the papers title?
4 AnswersLeeds1 decade agoComputer problem?
I seem to have a problem when viewing web pages as the pages suddenly seem way too wide for my screen and I end up having to scroll across just to read e-mail messages and some sites. I don't think I've changed any settings to cause this, however, another person has access to my computer and may have inadvertantly done something which has caused this. Does anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks
6 AnswersOther - Computers1 decade agoAny people with hearing problems out there?
I am partially deaf and work in an office. I often miss out on what's going on around the office as I don't hear what's going on. I have mentioned this to my manager as well as HR - this is important work related issues as well as social events - but we've not been able to come up with a solution. Unless someone specifically comes up and mentions it to me, if I've got my head down, I don't hear.
Does anyone else have this problem and if so, how do they deal with it?
Thanks
27 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoDoes anyone else find that after using their mobile a lot, they get a sore throat?
I always wake up with a really sore dry throat which sometimes continues for quite a while. I am often talking on my mobile and wondered whether this could be a cause of this.
I have been to the docs on quite a few occasions and have tried various different medications but none of these seem to have helped cure it. I had a couple of days where I didn't use my mobile much and it seemed to calm down.
Has anyone else experienced this?
