  • How can I buy some tickets with miles and some with cash?

I need four tickets on United. I have enough miles for two tickets and will buy the other two. Do I have to do this in two separate transactions, or is there a way to do it all at once? Links to an answer from the United web site would be ideal.

  • Is interest of less than $10 taxable?

Financial institutions do not issue 1099 INT forms for interest of less than $10. I assume that such interest is still taxable, but I could not find that explicitly stated on the IRS site.

Pub 550 does state that "Even if you do not receive Form 1099-INT, you must still report all of your taxable interest income." But it doesn't specify that interest of less than $10 is taxable. Can you point me to an IRS form that specifically addresses this question? Thank you!

  • In P mode, when I decrease ISO, why doesn't exposure time increase sufficiently?

I have a Canon S90 and am trying to do some night shots with a tripod. When I set it to P mode and auto ISO, it set ISO of 1600. It was on a tripod, so there was no need for a short exposure, so to reduce noise, I set ISO lower. But when I did that, the exposure time increased, but not enough to fully counteract the ISO reduction, so the photos came out way too dark.

I know that I can fix this by setting the exposure compensation or by using Ev or M mode and setting the exposure time manually, but I was suprised that it happened at all. Why would changing the ISO affect the camera's decision of how bright to make the exposure in the first place? And is there anyway to fix it so that the effective brightness of the image remains the same even when I set the ISO manually?

    Thank you.

  • How do I transfer an address book from Palm desktop to Ipod touch?

I used to have a Palm, but haven't used it for a while. However, I still am using Palm desktop on my PC as my address book. Now I got an Ipod touch and would like to transfer the address book. I've seen some suggestions online to transfer from Palm to Microsoft Outlook and then to the Touch, but I don't have Outlook; I use Open Office. Any suggestions?

  • How does a reverse morgage affect capital gains on a home sale?

If you take a reverse morgage, you get tax free income initially, and then part of the proceeds from the sale go to the financial institution. How does that affect the capital gains (in cases where you have more than the $250/$500k exclusion). For example, let's say a single person bought a house for $100k and sold it for $400k. Usually, he would have $50k in taxable capital gains ($300k profit less $250k exclusion). If before the sale he took a $100k reverse mortgage, would that eliminate the taxable capital gain?

  • New York restaurant guide online?

I'll be visiting NYC (Brooklyn and lower Manhattan); can you recommend any good local restaurant sites or blogs? The big ones, like NY Times and New York Magazine, are a bit overwhelming.

  • Good fly/drive packages from US to Britain?

I'd like to fly from the US to London, then drive to Ireland and fly back to the States. Any suggestions for companies that would have a suitable fly/drive package that would be less expensive than booking the flights and car separately?

  • How do I download podcasts to my RealPlayer for Palm?

I just got a Palm Zire 71 and installed RealPlayer for Palm. I would like to download podcasts - ideally, I'd like new podcasts to automatically download when I sync my Palm. But Real doesn't seem to have any podcast subscription capabilities. Do I have to download the podcasts through another program (I have Itunes set up) and then switch to Real Player PC to transfer them to my Palm, or is there a simpler way to do that?
