  • What does 115200/8/1/n mean?

I'm trying to setup Hyperterminal to do a serial connection on a embedded device I'm working on and the manual says to use 115200/8/1/n for terminal settings.

I figured that 115200 means baud rate or speed and 8 is the stop bits, but I'm not sure what exactly the 1 and the n match to.

  • Is there something I could substitute for a coolant refill cap?

I searched and searched and I can't locate a refill cap for my car. The evaporated coolant is making a mess on my battery terminals. Is there anything I can use as a substitute. There must be something elastic or stretchy that can take engine compartment heat I can over the coolant reservoir.

  • What is the deal with HP 6200 Motherboards?

My work purchased many HP Compaq pro 6200 desktops 6 months ago. About close to 50% of them have had their motherboards replaced, well 1 of those has been replaced twice and another one 3 times. They either flicker on and off, or they will power on with no video and the fans will go full blast within a few minuets. Good thing we have a good HP vendor that will have a motherboard shipped out next day with just an email. I'm supervisor for the support technicians in the IT department, and this is causing us serious customer support issues including time to replace the motherboards is affecting our ability to provide timely customer service. What is wrong with these suckers? Maybe we will switch to a different brand of computer.

  • What is that consequences misusing USPS Media Mail?

Media mail is the United States post office's slowest and cheapest service, but it says its for books and movies only. I see it as them having a low priority option, but not having that priority overwhelmed with cheap skates. Is it just a strong suggestion or is there penalty posted for sending other types of items and the postal service finding out?

  • Laptop with their own wireless access points?

I just got a job were one of my tasks is to monitor the wireless access system during trade shows at a convention center.

I keep seeing multiple access points pop up with with weird SSID names like HP2375664 Our system jams them and marks them as Rouge access points.

Its unlike when a vendor brings a router (mistakenly think they will use it) and it named a brand name like Linksys or a cute name they thought up. Do some laptops have a access point or Internet sharing feature? What it is called so that I find more information about it. To make a long story short, I don't have anyone that I can consult about this.

  • What do you think of this interesting tip given to Pizza Delivery guy?

I ordered some Pizza and then I realised I didn't have enough cash for the tip. I remembered that I had a $10 Gift card for Chilli's given to me I really didn't want to use. So I checked the balance to check it really had $10 on it, which it did. When I gave it to him, he seemed neutral and polite about it. I especially like to hear from people with delivery experience. Have your own story of a strange tip?

  • What kind of attack is happening with Hotmail and Yahoo Accounts lately?

I haven't heard news on any sites I frequent nor could I find any security news reports about what is happening, but I've seen many people getting spam or reports from friends that they are sending spam from their Hotmail and Yahoo accounts. The computers I support are kept pretty locked down and secure. I can't find an attack on the computers and network I manage, but I'm still hearing many complaints of this spam/virus attack, whatever it is. What is causing it? Do you have a link/reference to a security or computer news site detailing what is going on?
