  • Do you know the name of this bacon, cream cheese, herb, and biscuit appetizer?

At the wedding I was at yesterday, they served these delicious appetizers. They had a thin biscuit base (or more likely it was a biscuit cut in half), topped with bacon and melted cheese, and spread thick with cream cheese that had herbs mixed into it (I think chives). They were served warm. Do you know the name of this food item, and/or where I can find a recipe for it?

  • After driving for about 15 minutes, my car shudders while stopped/idle. Today it stalled after idling too long

After driving for about 15 minutes, my car starts shaking and shuddering while idling (at a traffic light, waiting to make a turn, etc.). I've been noticing this for about a week. Putting it in park helps a little, but is not always possible. Just today, I was waiting for several minutes to make a left turn across traffic, and it stalled out - I had to turn the car off and back on. Making short trips it seems fine. What could the problem be? I've scheduled an appointment for the car in three days, but is it possibly so serious that I should avoid driving it in the meantime?

  • Why is our slow tub drain is slower for my husband than me?

Our bathtub has always drained slowly. Occasionally I'll use some liquid chemical unclogger (big no-no, I know!), or take a plunger to it, but that only solves the problem for a day or so before it starts slowing down again. We were once told the angle of the drain wasn't steep enough for proper drainage.

I can live with this and don't mind that a few inches of water collects while I'm bathing, it's usually completely drained before I leave the bathroom. But, when my husband takes a shower, water will sit in the tub indefinitely! Sometimes he'll shower at night and the next morning when I go in, there is still water in the tub, not moving. I'll use the plunger and eventually that gets things going.

What could cause the difference in draining times between him and me? I use regular shampoo and body wash, he uses anti-dandruff shampoo and bar soap. My showers are generally longer and if anyone is shedding hair in there it's me. So any ideas?

  • Does an Electric Lawn Mower Make Sense for Us?

I am thinking of getting a cordless elecrtic lawn mower for my husband to use (I don't do yard work). We have a very small yard, with maybe 400 sq. ft. of grass to mow. Right now, we have an old gas-powered mower that's been handed down several times. It's a pain to start up, keep gassed up, and use, so my husband mows less often than he should.

Is an electric lawn mower worth the price, especially considering we only have a small yard? We do have an outlet outside where it can be recharged - how often will it have to be charged, and for how long? Will it really be easier to use and more convenient than a gas-powered mower?

  • What to do in Williamsburg, VA, Sept. 17-21?

My husband and I are visiting Williamsburg next week, from Sunday through Thursday (9/17-21). We're 24 and 30 years old.

We have tickets to Colonial Williamsburg (annual passes, so we can come and go as we please during the week), tickets for Jamestown-Yorktown (one day), and a scheduled Williamsburg Winery Tour. (Busch Gardens and King's Dominion are both closed during the week.)

Will this be enough to keep us occupied all week? Is there anything else cool to do in the area? Are there any special events going on that week?

  • Should my friend try to get child support for her son?

My friend L's ex got her pregnant in her senior yr of college. He didn't want her to keep the baby, but she didn't want an abortion, and almost chose adoption, but her parents said they'd help her, so she kept it.

She graduated, moved home, and had her baby. Now he is 2. L is miserable living with her parents, who aren't as supportive as they had promised, and are often mean to her. She works part-time in a store at the mall, and barely earns enough to pay her bills (this is w/o having to pay rent, etc).

Myself and others keep telling her to get child support from the father (50+ miles away), but she is afraid he will get partial custody of their child, and she doesn't want her son bouncing between 2 parents. I think his previous actions prove that he was never interested in having the baby, and would probably be given minimal visitation rights.

L talked to lawyers who discouraged her from getting child support. I see it as the only way she could get out of her current situation
