2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agodating after the end of a four year relationship?
I am a good man with a big heart who will do just about anything for the woman I love; I treated my ex like this and yet I am alone now. I consider myself decent to good looking but shy and now that I've been with someone for 4 years, day in and day out (she was also my best friend), I find myself not having a clue when it comes to dating! When I was younger I had no problem dating, maybe I have just lost my confidence after being w/ someone who I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I guess she had other plans!
1 AnswerSingles & Dating1 decade agobest adware/trojan removers?
OK, normally I wouldn't ask but running out of patience and time with this repair. I just want some input from people who actually use removal tools and know how to use them! most of what is on this pc is adware infections w/ the exception of a dloader. trojan. Ive run Avast in safe, found about 8 (i think) infections and either moved or deleted (depending on what it was); then I ran drweb after finding out what I was dealing with through Avast and came up with 10 more infections 9, (mostly adware again) A couple of examples are: adware.cfd, adware.websearch, adware.onestep, adware.coupons, muldrop.trojan, and showfolder [1].htm. So I guess what I'm asking is what has worked best for you in the past (preferably experienced answers only). I don't want to hear about AVG being the best, I don't need prevention at this point, I need a good removal tool or two. I have already cleaned cookies, temp files, turned off system restore; Sorry for the long detailed post, I just wanted be clear.
4 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoXP re-installation trouble!?
I'm trying to re-install XP home on a Comaq Presario (R4000). From the start I was having a problem with error reports all over the place; every program I would try to open I received the "windows has encountered a problem with *** program and has to close" error. Didn't matter what type of file it was attempting to open, dll, exe, cpl, iec, etc. So first thing I did was run a chkdsk, put a check in both boxes to fix whatever problems it finds; it found probably a hundred corrupt or bad files! So I'm thinking we're good, as soon as I boot, same thing! After that I went into BIOS and did a HDD test, came up fine; I then decide to just reformat and reinstall XP, opened up a brand new restore disk and attempted to re-install the OS. It formatted and then started to copy files and when it got to about 70% into it the errors would start, one after another until the BSOD would finally come up telling me windows has to shut down to prevent any damage to hardware. The errors before that were "could not copy file correctly". I've tried 3 different xp disk so it's not the disk. I don't think it's the RAM but I may be wrong; I don't think it would be booting if it were the RAM, right? So this is where I am, I've never done a BIOS flash and I would guess that would be my last option. Thanks for any suggestions as I am running out of them! I appreciate it, john
4 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoNEED HELP please!! Still can't DUAL boot?
I have vista pre-installed on drive (C:) with a separate primary drive (D:) used for storage; when I created a partition for the XP OS I forgot to make it primary (it's labeled as healthy, logical), might be my problem right there but not sure. Also Vista assigned XP letter (L:), but when I boot into XP it's labeled (D:) , don't seem right. Now(this is an attempt at a short version of messing around for two weeks on this project, shouldn't be this hard!), I have Xp installed, downloaded programs, updated, etc.,etc., and then I figured all I need to do is boot Vista with disk to repair boot and then use easyBCD to configure my dual boot. I did all that but when I try boot into XP it tells me to put the disk in to repair OS cause it may be corrupt. I'm getting real bored with this and thought I'd give it one last shot, maybe someone out there can give me a clue!! Is it the drive letters? the Logical, Primary? is it EasyBCD configuration? Please someone HELP!!!!!!!
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoAlright, I'm in the middle of a dual boot and need some advice, please.?
ok, finally installed the necessary drivers to access the internet in XP with pre-installed Vista 32-bit on gateway GT5648E (Ethernet controller was different). Problem now: I can't boot XP without having to go through the repair process. I have easy BCD installed in Vista and went back to it after repairing Vista and added the entry (although in Vista, XP is volume (L:) and in XP it's (D:) which might be the problem but I'm not sure). So then when I go back to Xp (that's where I'm at now) I have the two OS options at boot and I pick XP and it says that there is a problem and I will have to put OS disk in and restart and repair! It's happened twice now, I had XP on this pc before but couldn't access the internet and finally removed it, but had access to both XP and Vista at the time so I don't know what's happened now but would love to hear from some people who maybe have had the same problem. I've heard you have to install XP first, but I successfully booted both before. Than's
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoinstalled ubuntu but it won't accept my passord?

4 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoUbuntu?!? Please help with installation?
I've tried to boot Ubuntu 7.04 unsuccessfully from disk after burning (I've booted vista installation and xp on same computer w/ no problem so it's not BIOS I don't think). Is it possible to install Ubuntu on second partition without booting it? I've already moved it to (D:) from (C:) but I'm worried if I try to install it while Vista (C:) is running it's going to screw with (C:)! I don't even know if any of that's possible, I'm new to Ubuntu. any help would be appreciated! thanks
3 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoafter installing ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT Vista subscore goes from 2.3 to 5.4! Problems though!?
Alright, this is weird, I upgraded to a pretty good graphics card w/ 512 DDR3 but the problem is the screen is a little less sharp (kind of dull) and I'm not able to go full screen while streaming (the screen actually goes black and grey with a diagal line splitting the colors); I've tried all the different resolution settings and nothing works other than 1680X1050 (still can't get full screen while streaming but everything else looks pretty good. Is there another setting I should be looking at? Also when I try to let ATI do an auto cpu over clocking the screen goes black (I have an AMD Athlon (tm) 64X2 Dual core Processor+ 3.00GHz; 3582 MB of RAM and Vista 32-bit). Any setting suggestions? Thanks guys, I'm not a gamer so I'm kind of new to the graphics specifics, any help would be appreciated.
6 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agorating in Vista performance index went from 3.0 to 2.3 after installing pci exp graphics card?
anyone know why my index rating in vista would go down after switching from on board graphics card to external? It's not a high end graphics card (GeForce 7200) but wouldn't it be better than the crappy on board that vista supplies you with?
4 AnswersAdd-ons1 decade agojust installed graphics card and now I have no monitor. Please help!?
i have a brand new gateway and of course it came with an inboard graphics card, so I got a hold of gateway support and they explained that i needed to disable my on board graphics driver in safe mode, shut pc down and then install the new graphics card. the problem, I think, is that the new graphics card has no driver and I have no monitor to install one!!! Please, someone tell me what to do. thank you!
2 AnswersMonitors1 decade agoboot error: there is no free memory between 480K and 640K?
Any one no what this means, I have tried moving the ram to different slots; it's also telling me that primary and secondary HDD's not found. I unhooked one HDD and tried booting from just one and still no go. Before I unhooked the one HDD is was also telling me that the operating system is missing. 1 AnswerAdd-ons1 decade agoWhat's going to take for computer repair business to get off the ground?!?
I run a small computer business in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. I have tried all the free advertising such as Craig's List and Live Simon but nothing has really come from it (a few calls, more frauds than not). I was just wondering if you guys think I should go for broke and advertise on the web (sponsored ads). Looks enticing but it's expensive, although they do offer first month as a trial. I just want to start repairing computers and I'm getting frustrated at the lack of business.
Thanks in advance, John

5 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade ago46 viruses and backdoor Trojans!!!?
I'm working on an old dell laptop, I was just going to originally reinstall xp but it wouldn't boot from disk (might be currupted). So I knew this wasn't going to be easy as I've removed viruses/trojans before plenty, but four hours later (and 4am) I'm thinking maybe I should ask some one if there is a way to boot from cd from command prompt or is there another way to reinstall xp other than booting from cd? thanks
7 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoehternet problem?
good answers, the problem is that this laptop was designed for win98 and 2000; I have xp in it. I guess I could put 98 in, but I can't remember if it ask for a key # or not (dont have one, it's old). When I went on the dell site it would'nt allow me the option of choosing xp.
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoethernet controller problem?
I just used driver agent to update some drivers in this piece of junk dell latitude (6gig hard drive, 128mb of ram!); I actually got it on a trade to play around with it and try to get it running, which I did and I think I had it to full potential but decided to update the ethernet controller (bad move, can't connect to the internet now). I'm now in the middle of reinstalling xp home and I'm pretty sure I'm going to still have a problem because xp doesn't always install that driver. any suggestions? thanks in advance!
