I'm a major though relatively new fan of Formula One, and specifically, a fan of McLaren. I'm also a major fan of cycling (road and mountain), and do both myself, particularly road cycling. Love volleyball, kayaking, tennis, hiking, camping, swimming, reading the New Testament of the Bible. Web Designer since 1994. Yes, really, 1994! I know, there were barely any web sites back then. :-) Live in California. Love the sun! Christian by choice. Human and American by birth. West Indian/African, Scottish by ancestry.

  • What are good movies for demonstrating reasons to switch to a Bluray DVD player?

I'm looking for suggestions of movies that look GREAT on 1080p, and also sound great with optical audio, or HDMI audio. One example that I plan to check is "Hero" with Jet Li. I already looked at the third "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. Other suggestions? Thanks!

  • Could Hamilton's Civilian Speeding Ticket be a Problem on Track?

So Lewis got himself caught speeding in France and was give a civilian license suspension for a month. We know F1 drivers have a "Super License" granted by the FIA in order to race in F1. Is there any clause in F1 that says anything about an F1 driver penalty for civilian infractions?

"Lewis Hamilton has had his driving license suspended after being caught driving 196 kph on the French motorway near Laon. Hamilton had to pay a fine of €600 and he lost his license for a month. According to the police, Hamilton was "very polite and cooperative"."

  • Anyone else a bit sad to see Alex Wurz go?

I know he wasn't a big superstar in Formula One or anything, but he was genuine, nice, and not a complainer (as far as I noticed), and a true gentleman. I know those are not at all enough, and one must gain maximum points and podiums in the sport, but a good character counts a lot for me in the measure of a person, and so I was a bit sad to hear of his retirement, effective immediately. He won't even be contesting Brazil!

  • Speed and jinks notwithstanding, what draws you to Formula 1?

I ask this question because Formula One as I know it today seems more on the up and up, and more gentlemanly (politics notwithstanding) than some other sports. I see many other sports get into some mad physical brawls and melees (and sometimes encourage fighting) and it bores me.

The "brawls" between drivers in F1 seem more gentlemanly, and tend to be fought on the track, with no fisticuffs later on. Ala Fernando and Massa, who fought on the track, verbally sparred in the post-race room, but never took it to fisticuffs.

    What do you think?

  • One in the bag, two to go...history in the making?

With Lewis Hamilton's win at Fuji, Alonso retiring the race out of the points, and Raikkonen finishing third, what do you think are Hamilton's chances of taking the Driver's Championship?

  • What exactly is Bernie Eccelstone's Role in F1?

I was reading the linked article today and it made me wonder.

I know he decides where the GP's will be contested each season, but what else does he actually do? Seems the FiA have a lot of power and sway over F1.

  • What is your basis for defining a "good" F1 driver?

All season we've heard the back and forth defining whether it's the car that makes the drive (yes, drive, not driver) or the driver that makes the drive. Some say Hamilton is good, some say it's the car; that he'd not shine so bright with a lesser car. We've seen how well both Hamilton and Alonso do in "the same car", and we've seen Hamilton benefit from knowledge of Alonso's setup, and do poorly without that same knowledge. We've also seen Hamilton out-drive Kimi, Fernando, and Felipe, and vice-versa. So just having a fast car may not be enough. There's a presence of mind, an instinct, and a bit of wisdom that all factor into the drive.

So when you define a driver as being good, what is your basis, and how much does the car really factor, in your opinion?

  • F1 2007 Greatest Moments DVD?

If FOM (Formula One Management) decided to put out a DVD of the highlights and greatest moments of the 2007 season, what would you expect to see in terms of categories, i.e., most gutsy passes (overtakings), etc.?

  • How did you become an F1 fan?

I used to watch F1 now and again because the speed and power excited me, and Michael Schumacher was interesting to watch from time to time. Honestly though, the prospect of Lewis Hamilton got me watching full-on, and I've been hooked since.

So how did you become a fan of F1, and how long have you been a fan? Who's been your favourite constructor, and the one driver that got you hooked, if any?

The most interesting (true) story will get the points, or we'll put it to group vote if I can't pick a winner myself. Be as detailed as you wish.

  • What are the most interesting plans for F1 in the near future?

From the removal of traction control, to night races, to McLaren supplying ECUs to all the teams; what have you heard that's going to make F1 2008 potentially dramatically different from F1 2007? Please cite sources (web page links) if you can.

  • What to watch on Tele?

Ok, so the only sports I watch on television are Tour de France, and Formula 1; on a few occasions I will also watch Tennis, Volleyball, and Golf.

Now that F1 has been on vacation for a bit, what on earth does everyone watch? I just feel rather lost on television when there's no F1 on. I find myself craving the action and gentlemanly drama. Anyone else ever feel this way? Do I need psychological counseling? :-)

  • Alonso punished for Hamilton Block. Now What?

Now that Alonso has been penalised by the FIA for the delay of Hamilton in qualifying today, what do you think will be his future with McLaren? Could this also all be a stunt by McLaren to take attention off the "Stepneygate" scandal?

  • 10 pts for the best caption for this photo:?

I saw the photo below in the article and thought the photo was worth a thousand words. The photo is of Lewis Hamilton, but what's going on behind him begs many questions:

  • Cyclists: Road Bike Recommendations?

Hello party people in the place to be!

I've been slowly transitioning my passion from mountain biking to road biking on a mountain bike, and now I'm planning to get a road bike.

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations based upon my criteria below:

I like to bike long distances 40-100 miles per ride.

I like to climb relatively steep grades 6-10 degrees.

I love to ride really fast on both flat and slight in/declines.

    The bike:

Must be full carbon or at least carbon tubes.

Preferably should be a race bike, not a leisure bike.

Should have be least Ultegra component group.

Compact gears would be nice, but are not requisite.

Price wise, I'm looking at $2000-$2600 out the door, including clipless pedals.

    Any ideas...recommendations?

    So far, I'm looking at:

    Specialized Tarmac

    Trek Madone

  • Emotional trust issues...?

I have a terrible time opening up emotionally to anyone. I've come to the realization that I have serious trust issues, but I do not know where the issues come from. I tend to be willing to talk with people when asked direct questions, but I can never initiate conversations about myself.

How do I open up? How would I initiate such conversations with people?
