  • I owe the IRS back taxes and yet I'm on unemployment. Are they going to take my refund?

I know this is a common question but I cannot find this particular type anywhere.

I owe the IRS around $2,700 in 2009 as I got laid off in 2008. I am on Unemployment Compensation.

Since then, I haven't been able to find a job and still owe the IRS money. According to my 1099-G, Turbo Tax and how the IRS accepted my return, It says I will get back $1,222.

I pay no state taxes and the first $2,400 of Unemployment Compensation was not taxable if that helps.

Now, will I get my refund or will the IRS take my refund to cover the back taxes? It'd really suck if they did as, again, I'm unemployed and that just makes it harder for people.

  • According to the movie, isn't it actually Jack's and Rose's fault the Titanic sunk?

I was re-watching this movie the other night on TNT and I remembered a question I haven't thought of for a long time. Isn't it actually Jack's and Rose's fault the Titanic sunk?

You have them causing trouble during the whole movie. Then you have them going up on deck, at night and alone playing and messing around like little kids.

So, of course the 2 guys in the crow's nest are going to look. And because of Jack's and Rose's lack of concern for the crew's safety and disrespect of the hardships they must endure during their jobs to keep everyone safe, their attention is diverted to those 2 kids which totally makes them miss the iceberg ahead.

Had those two pesky kids not been up on deck horse-playing and running amuck, the iceberg would have been spotted sooner and countless lives would have been saved and the ship would still be intact.

    Do you agree with this?

  • Is there anyway to replace the brown water in a snow globe? And why does this happen?

I recently took out my Partylite snow globe from storage. It's an unique snow globe with a battery operated blower to blow around the snow, a wind-up musical box and an identation on top for a candle. However, the water is now brown. Is there a way to replace this? And why does this happen?

I've read complaints online about Partylite but I haven't seen one about brown water except for one. However, that person posted in a forums and hasn't received an answer since that person posted over a year ago.

  • Should you be able to vote thumbs up or thumbs down when you answer a question?

The funny part about this is that when you answer a question on here, it's only natural for most people to vote thumbs down on the other answers. Personally, I think you should not get to vote or if you voted before you answered, those votes get removed. It's not really an effective system when people are at war with each other for the best votes. What do you think?

  • Why do people look for answers to their homework on Yahoo! Answers?

It's really sad that a lot of the questions on here are homework questions. Do people really not want to learn for themselves and decide to cheat and ask someone else what the answer is? Is this really the generation that you want running our future that can't figure things out for themselves and (gasp!)... LEARN something?

  • What is the conversion between MPH, KPH and knots?

I'm mostly asking between MPH and knots. I used to think that either MPH or KPH was the same as knots/nautical miles but I heard differently. Please explain.

  • If you're in the middle of the ocean, how do you find your way without a compass or the north star?

This question has been bothering me for 12 years. It was towards the end of class, 5th grade and the last day of school. The teacher posed a question but it was never answered because we got caught up in other things. We even named examples and it wasn't right.

"If you're stranded in the middle of the ocean, it's too cloudy to see the north star or any others that make zodiacs, you have no compass, there's no moss growing on a tree (that was a guess by someone), how do you navigate to where you're going?"

  • What's a good program for limiting a child's time on World of Warcraft?

I woke up at 2 a.m. to find my sister (11 years old and I'm 26) playing World of Warcraft. What's a good program to limit the time that she plays this game? She's now sneaking on even though my mother and me gave her restrictions on when she can play. She is way too addicted to this game and would spend every waking minute on it if she could which is not good. I don't want to not let her play but to force the limitations on her so she can't play during certain hours and/or for a set amount of time.

  • Any tips to beat a speeding ticket in court when I know it wasn't my fault?

The officer stopped me and said I was doing 54mph in a 40mph zone here in Florida. I know I wasn't going that fast because A) I don't have the money to waste on gas so I've been using cruise control a lot and B) same with the money and I didn't want a ticket. I believe he clocked the wrong person since there were a lot of people on that road. He used a laser to clock it. I maybe did 47 to get to the right-hand lane in front of some cars. I know for defensive driving, you're supposed to slow down and wait to get into the other lane instead of speeding up. However, there were quite a few cars on the right hand side but they were going 35mph and in my lane, there was someone tailgating me very close. I've had bad experiences with just going the speed limit or slowing down so they'd go around (they go in front of me real close, stop real quick and take off) but do not need an accident since this is my only mode of transportation and don't need to pay more into insurance (this is a No Fault state).

The problem is, I don't know how to prove that he clocked the wrong person. There were other people that were speeding on that road and it was in my lane. Also, on the back of my license, it says that I need to wear prescription eyewear and yet, he didn't get me for that. Would that be a hole in his defense?

My mother talked to an ex-cop and said better to pay the fine and take the driving class (which saves on my insurance and lowers the ticket, so $210 total) but it's not something I can afford right now. EXACTLY why I'm trying to stay out of trouble. Can anyone offer any tips or experiences with something like this? How do I prove to the judge that it wasn't me that he clocked?

(If anyone is local, I live in Pinellas county, FL (in Clearwater) if that helps.)

  • What the HECK is the name of this movie!?

I never saw the beginning and it's kind've a real... weird movie. A little girl's mother dies of overdose or something. Father and girl movie (I think) and then he dies of overdose on alcohol, I think. But the little girl is weird: She has conversations with dolls heads and her dead father, leaves him in his chair where he died and puts a wig and makeup on him. She finds this one woman who she thinks is a witch or something but she's kind've a whore... putting herself out for the guy that delivers groceries. But she has a dumb son or something. (Like is used a lot and something is used a lot... I know, I know.)

  • Are there any small, crummy restaurants on the way to California from Florida?

I'm moving to California from Florida next year. My friend are going to have a little bit of a road trip with this. But, we REALLY want to stop by a crummy, dingy out of the way restaurant that you see only in the movies such as where the waitress is named, "Flo", the chef is greasy, wearing a wifebeater with flies buzzing around and one of the truckers that frequents there claims to have been molested by aliens and is named, "Sea Bass" but everyone there is like the show, "Cheers" where everyone knows your name and don't take kindly to cityfolk. I know this seems kind of weird of a question and that it could be conceived as mean. Does anyone know where one of these types of restaurants is located along that route? We don't want to stray too far off to get to it though.

  • Can you use your old phone with a T-Mobile MyFaves plan?

T-Mobile says I have to upgrade to a MyFaves phone to be able to get a MyFaves plan. The only problem is that I love my phone. It's an unlocked Motorola Ming (A1200) which is compatible with T-Mobile now. Am I just able to get a $10 MyFaves phone and just use my Motorola Ming anyways or do I HAVE to use their phone?

Please only answer if you have experience in this by having or used to have T-Mobile, MyFaves and a different phone.

  • Can you negotiate your rent for an apartment?

I've been looking at apartments and notice that most have a booklet with the room layouts with empty lines next to them. As the person talks and price comes up, they scribble down the price on those lines. Now, since they're empty in the first place, it makes me wonder if you can actually negotiate the monthly rent of an apartment. Can you haggle price with a landlord?

  • How did bread last in olden times?

I was watching Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and it reminded me of something that I wanted to ask for a long time. It was the staple food back then and they traveled with it. How did they make it so it wouldn't get moldy and hard as a rock like bread does today? Or did they pick off or eat the mold as well and just crunched into it?

  • Does anyone know the name of a movie that came out around 2006?

Does anyone know the name of this movie? The tv preview had a young man left for dead and he used psychic ability to try to have someone find him before he died.
