Now this is the story all about how My internets life turned upside down And I'd like to take a minute, don't call me gay I'll tell you a summary of my life in this place called Y!A In northeastern Mexico, born - not raised In West Texas is where I spend most of my days Fapping to internet porn and watching TV Changed my major cuz I don't know what I wanna be When a couple of dudes, they were "check out this site" Went to Yahoo! Answers at the speed of light I trolled a few other users and the mods got mad They said: "We're locking down the longest email account you've had" I whistled at the mods, and when I pled my case They reinstated my email with a grin on their face At any rate, I can say that this ban was lame But I thought, nah, forget it, "Yo Asker, more BA's!"

  • 2012 in metal (so far)?

Not gonna lie, been playing too many video games so I missed most of 2011 and 2012, only new album I've heard this year is the new Jeff Loomis (which was quite alright, but still lacking that certain something from Nevermore's TGE and Jeff's last solo album), so I'm kind of curious as to what I've missed.

Anyway, favorite album of 2012, favorite song, favorite whatever, as many as you want to answer.

BQ: Who's still here? Haven't posted on here in months (and haven't been an active contributor in over a year) and after going through the first 8 pages it seems like this place is significantly worse than when I left

  • Metal songs about... metal?

Haven't asked a question on here in a while, thought I'd ease into it...

What are some of your favorite songs about metal? The more over the top, the better

  • New Megadeth song preview... well sort of?

This is part of the E3 Trailer for the new Konami game "NeverDead", featuring a new song by Megadeth.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uwn5lbKaIc

MQ: Thoughts on the song? Or at least what is able to be made out through all the gunshots and sounds of ripping limbs

MQ2: Thoughts on the game? Looks pretty stupid IMO, but I'm so pissed at all the "BLOODY SCREEN, SO REAL!" crap games of this generation that I actually thought it was kind of interesting

MQ3: Will you be buying the new Megadeth album later this year? If not, will you be downloading it (you monster)?

BQ: Are you currently playing any video games?

    BQ2: Did you miss me?

  • 2011 in metal... so far?

Honestly I'm posting this because I've been slacking it this year, I've only heard like 3 albums (Obscura's "Omnivium" being the best of them all), and by this time this year I had heard at least a dozen. Figured I'd better catch up, what with new Anthrax and Megadeth albums later this year.

MQ: Favorite releases this year? Single album would be alright, top 5 would be ideal

MQ2: Anything you're looking forward to this year?

  • So uhh... here are some covers I found...?

Hipster metal, babies first death metal band, etc... My time on Y!A has made me a bit indifferent to deathcore (before that I was excessively hostile toward any and every deathcore band)...

But then... BUT THEN! I heard this

    Oceano - War (Edwin Starr)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yP9lmyWoQA

It's from a game that was just released called "Homefront", which is another mediocre title in a sea of mediocre FPS games that have been released since the Call of Duty series reached mainstream popularity (which is funny, cuz it plays like the retarded child of Battlefield and Modern Warfare, interspliced with a hammy Red Dawn plot).

Had enough? Well check these out

The Ghost Inside - Fortunate Son

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C70o2jTZeDg

The Acacia Strain - War Pigs

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pCu8r1Vzrc

I won't bother linking to the rest of em, but if you're THAT curious

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homefront_%28video_ga...

And this was actually the most listenable song on that whole album, in all its whinecore glory

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvHKFEFX4Gw

Never thought Bullet For My Valentine's cover of Crazy Train would ever sound good by comparison, though

    MQ: Opinions?

MQ2: Any gamers? What is your favorite FPS title? And what is your favorite game so far this year?

MQ3: I haven't been keeping up with the metal scene.. Has metal crossed into the flavor of the month graveyard along with its groove and nu brothers? Or has it been completely assimilated as an acceptable metal genre?

  • The metal militia is still around?

I found this while I was looking for a video to reference on KP's Kirk Hammett question

    "ATTENTION ALL METALLICA FANS

On January 19th (before if you can't make it) we will all watch ENTER SANDMAN in honor of the greatest thrash metal band ever’s glory. Let's give them the best present ever: the highest viewed video on YouTube!! Let's give them what they deserves and what Justin Bieber does not deserve to have!

Copy and paste to all METALLICA videos and all music videos let's get this noticed quickly!

Watch ENTER SANDMAN! It has the most views of METALLICA!"

MQ: Thoughts, opinions, observations, rants, I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico, etc.

  • Random rock/metal questionnaire?

MQ: Is there a band that you can't get into solely because of a bad vocalist?

MQ2: Is there any band that you like in spite of the fact that they have a bad vocalist?

MQ3: What is a band that you feel has/had one extremely talented member and the rest of the members are just dead weight?

MQ4: What is your favorite band in which each member has an equal amount of talent (or at least equally contributes to the songwriting process, either/or)?

    BQ: Bored yet?

  • Fans of progressive death metal...?

The new Obscura song just became available for streaming... If you have Facebook or Myspace (lol myspace) you can check it out, but I found a Youtube link just in case you don't have either (doesn't seem to be official so who knows if its gonna get taken down, though.)

    http://www.facebook.com/realmofobscura

    http://www.myspace.com/realmofobscura

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5-9Z-m7l90

MQ: Thoughts? (personally I was thrown off by the clean vocals and the song wasn't as acrobatic as some of the Cosmogenesis stuff, but still great)

MQ2: Will you be buying Omnivium when it comes out in a few months?

MQ3: Can you show me a prog metal bassist better than Thesseling? Or a metal bassist in general?

    BQ: Now playing?

BQ2: What's a prog death song that rocks your socks?

  • What is your favorite battle song?

I chose the word "battle" instead of "war" cuz I want some balls-to-the-wall sword wielding, turret shooting, blood spurting action.

    BQ: Favorite war movie?

BQ2: Best trailer ever, or best trailer ever?

  • How can metalheads defend their music?

This is something I've been thinking about for a while... When confronted by someone who devotes their whole life to studying/performing music (I don't mean some self-taught basement guitarist or a certain holier-than-thou TC who shall not be named, I mean someone like a music major with a vast knowledge of music theory and practice), how do you defend some of the more disorganized or cacophonous forms of metal? Sure, you can pull out factoids like "X Singer is classically trained" or "X guitarist is this talented and went to school for Y years", but what about some of the more extreme forms of metal? Hell, power chords are one of the biggest sins of music theory, and metal has them in abundance. The creators and innovators of metal have been students of jazz, blues, and classical, but these influences are barely present in a lot of modern bands, making the musical practicality of metal all the more questionable.

MQ: What else is left? What defense is there for genres like death, grindcore (just about any -core for that matter), thrash, or black metal?

MQ2: Which defense is more solid, "I like it because I like it" (the good ol' Apple Jacks mantra), or the neanderthalian "I like it because it makes me feel good".

BQ: Favorite band that could be easily defended from a conventional musical standpoint?

BQ2: Favorite band that pisses all over music theory?

I did this a few months ago, thought about bringing it back... If you could build a supergroup made up of musicians named Daniel (alive or dead), who would you pick?

  • Grammy nominations are out (best metal performance)?

    * IRON MAIDEN - "El Dorado" (from "The Final Frontier")

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3HCHyhauI0

    * KORN - "Let The Guilt Go" (from "Korn III: Remember Who You Are")

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5gjoTBkmfo

    * LAMB OF GOD - "In Your Words" (from "Wrath")

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l2_KpfCcmA&t=1m56s

    * MEGADETH - "Sudden Death" (from "Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock")

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TfZHas3MYo

    * SLAYER - "World Painted Blood" (from "World Painted Blood")

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co3KgHPFZeI

PROTIP: Don't watch the video, just listen to the song

MQ: Who do you want to win? The old band that has great songwriting and consistency but still bores me, the fathers of nu metal, the metalcore band that just won't go away, the Guitar Hero wankfest, or Angel of Death pt. 45?

MQ2: Iron Maiden and Lamb of God have had 3 nominations in this category with no wins, Megadeth has had 9 nominations and no wins, Slayer has 5 nominations and 2 wins, Korn has 5 nominations and 1 win. The Lamb of God and Slayer songs are from albums that were also nominated last year (Wrath and World Painted Blood, respectively). Does knowing this make you change your vote?

MQ3: What is your personal "metal performance of the year?"

BQ: Why are 3 of the 5 nominated bands from last year nominated again?

BQ2: On a scale of 1-10 how much do you dislike the Grammy's?
