  • I'm in love with my best friend. Got any drinking games I could play?

I moved to a new school this past year, and at first, I thought being the new girl in a very small school would be intimidating. But in fact, it wasn't. A boy named Joseph approached me. He would try talking to me, teasing me, always with a big, goofy smile. His assertiveness scared me a little. Each time he failed at getting me to converse he'd say; "I'm just trying to have a conversation here." And as he walked away, offended, I felt a sting of rejection. It took a while for me to open up to Joseph. But when I did, we became fast friends. He would tell me about his girlfriend, and I would tell him about my boyfriend (we lasted a month). We would talk about everything. It was easy, and I loved hearing his voice. We'd call each other and talk for hours. As some of my other friendships dissipated, he became my best friend. I tried to ignore the flirty remarks from him, but I sensed myself developing a crush on him. When we fought, which we did often, he would leave me and I would feel empty in his absence. His girlfriend is suspicious of me, not trusting either of us, which has to do with his past mistake. He started avoiding my calls/ texts, claiming to be busy. Which hurt me more than he knows. I told him that we can't be friends anymore. But being without him for about 2 weeks now has made me realize that I love him. I don't know what to do or how to handle my feelings, and worst of all, I miss him.

So, the question: how can I drown my pain with alcohol?

  • Do you wear makeup on a daily basis?

As a teenage girl, it's often percieved as strange that I don't wear makeup, but I feel my skin looks better without it, and I don't have to pour time and money into the process.

I know it's a weird question, but I was curious to see how many of you Yahoo! users wear it.

  • How can I summarize Breaking Dawn/ Twilight?

**This isn't a joke. Trust me, I know it's a really pointless series.

I'm writing an article on the new Breaking Dawn movie, but need to summarize the plot of the previous Twilight books/ movies without revealing too much. It needs to be short and simple with all the main points, for example, the Volturi, love triangle, Renesme, etc.

I'm not asking that you write it out for me, but I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks.

  • How can I REALLY quickly summarize Breaking Dawn/ Twilight?

**Please don't be sarcastic, I know it's a really pointless series, and I could make a thousand jokes on my own.

  • What songs do you listen to on a cloudy day?

I personally listen to the "Les Miserables" soundtrack when I get depressed, even though the songs on there are extremely disheartening...

What do you listen to when you're depressed?

  • What scary movies would you recommend?

To be honest, I can be very wimpy when it comes to horror films. I have seen "The Ring", "Drag Me to Hell" and "Insidious". They all made me paranoid for weeks afterward. I am permanently scarred, and will never be able to look at a well or an old gypsy woman ever again. I was wondering which films you Yahoo! Answerers would recommend for our family movie night.

And please do not say "The Exorcist" or "Paranormal Activity 2", because those are off limits apparently...

  • Do you think reasons for hunting are hypocritical?

Overpopulation. A main reason for hunting, apparently.

I learned in my biology class, that eventually once a species peaks in population size, the species will reach a "carrying capacity". And nature will level out the quantity of individuals in that population.

And apparently, overpopulation is bad because the species may destroy the habitat. But what the hell have WE done? We have reached BILLIONS in out population, far above the predicted carry capacity. AND we have completely destroyed our habitat! So why do we need to interfere more with the natural balance of things and go shooting poor animals for fun?

Do you think it's hypocritical of humans to hunt? And do you think that perhaps another species should hunt US?

  • Why do heterosexual people decide if homosexual people have the right to marry?

Following the incident in North Carolina of the "banning of gay marriage", I couldn't help but wonder why some people felt so strongly about opposing gay marriage. It's not as if allowing homosexual couples to marry will negatively affect THEM. Regardless of political views, why do those who oppose gay marriage assume that they have the right to choose the relationship status of homosexual couples?

  • Do you think that Justin Bieber is a hypocrite?

We all know who Justin Bieber is, that kid with the pixie hair that sings like a ghetto angel and refuses to pull up his pants. And if you are a fan of his or happened to research him out of curiosity, you would probably know that he is very religious. And one ideal that he has that I find ridiculous is abstinence. He was quoted saying, "people should wait to have sex with someone they love". Which is a nice philosophy and all, even though sex is not usually more about psychical attraction than it is love. It's not like love is going to protect you from an STD or anything.

But anyway, in my eyes, Justin Bieber is a real hypocrite. While he is ranting about abstinence and "saving yourself", he flaunts barely clothed girls in his music videos and sings about having a "girl on his arm". It seems really innocent, but if you were to examine his music and videos, especially that creepy "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" one where a 40 year-old woman is walking around in a skimpy outfit, all this kid is really singing about is sex. If he really cared about love, why not have his already beautiful girlfriend appear in his music videos?

I think Justin Bieber's childish innocence has gone out the window, considering his new music video for "Boyfriend". Watch it and you'll see what I mean.

Do any of you think that he is a hypocrite? Or is it just me?

  • Do you find these "beauty ratings" on Yahoo! Answers to be disturbing?

I think it's sad when I see people asking "Am I pretty or ugly?" or "Rate me on 1-10 how hot am I?"

This insecurity and obsession with appearance is making me psychically sick. Am I the only reasonable person on here to think so?

  • Are there alternatives to taking anti-depressants as a long-term solution for depression?

I am a teenage girl with major depressive disorder that developed when I was merely eleven. I have been suicidal and have even had a brief eating disorder. My single mother took me to a psychologist last spring to look for a solution. I saw a therapist a few times, but it never really seemed to benefit me. And so I began taking medication, Welbutrin, for a few months. But I resented the fact that I couldn't seem to function normally without anti-depressants. And so I stopped using them. After several months of not using them, I felt fine, my symptoms were steadily improving and disappearing. But now, I feel them coming back. My sleeping pattern is off, I am tearful, irritable, desolate, and even the suicidal thoughts crept back for a while.

My mother noticed these symptoms, but reacted harshly, threatening to take me to a psychiatric-ward if I continued to refuse medication. And I still refuse to. So tomorrow she wants me to see my psychologist to plan a solution.

What I'm asking is, what other solutions to depression are there besides therapy and medication?

  • I feel hopeless and trapped?

I don't really know what I'm asking here. I just don't feel like anyone understands who I really am, and I feel stuck. I'm depressed and stressed out...And exhausted, so, so exhausted. All the time. Emotionally, and psychically. I know that my depression is partly to blame for my negative thoughts about myself, and I really am trying to be better about that. But I'm isolating myself. And I let school and family consume my whole life. I was on medication before, but I stopped taking it because of side affects. My mother wants me to start it again, or at least talk to a therapist. Unfortunately, I have already tried many tactics to help my depression, but nothing helps. Because I am constantly aware of how small I am. How insignificant. I live in Kansas, have never gone to an exotic country, or had amazing life experiences. I feel trapped here.

I just really need some advice on what to do. Does anyone have any advice?

  • How can I present this speech?

I have a Speech I class. And tomorrow, we are required to give a 5-7 minute persuasive speech. My topic is 'Body Image in the Media'. But my class only consists of teenage boys! And although low self-esteem is a problem among the male populous, the female population seems to be more pressured to look a certain way, to be a certain weight, to be objectified in media advertisements. I feel that it is important for them to know about anorexia, bulimia, and all other methods to create a country full of superficiality. I want them to know what I personally feel as an American teenage girl.

But how can I get them to care?

  • Why do I feel attracted to a boy I dislike?

I'm a freshman girl in a huge school with thousands of kids. I have very strong political and ethical views, and I judge people based on how they feel about those things that I'm passionate about. And there are certain characteristics that I usually steer away from. There's this boy that I'm hopelessly attracted to has all of them. He's a narcissistic, ignorant, shallow, careless boy. He's a year older than I am, and yet he acts as if he's a ten-year-old!

It's unbelievable what people will say in front of me. I can be very quiet around people I don't know very well. Miles talks openly about his opinions to just about everyone. He blurts idiotic comments during class, makes perverted jokes, and talks about very personal and normally private things. He's just...annoying. A class clown gone stupid. I want to avoid him all together. Unfortunately, that's nearly impossible. He is in most of my classes, we have the same lunch period, and I see him even after school during Track.

I don't know why, I'm usually so good at hiding my emotions and swallowing them, but I'm ridiculously attracted to him. I giggle like an idiot at his jokes, I stare freely at him, and I fantasize about him. For some reason I can't explain, I find that I LIKE his artificially bulky muscles, his unrequited confidence, his laugh...

What the hell is wrong with me?! He's just the kind of person I hate! Is it just that he has really great pheromones? Am I wrong to feel conflicted?

  • Is it strange that I have pet names...for my pet?

My family and I have a dog named Ike. We adopted him about three months ago, but he seems to have fit into our family perfectly, and it's as though he has always been around. He's a four year old Jack Russel Terrier, who still looks like a puppy and will ALWAYS look like a puppy because he is so small and adorable. I am mainly the one to take care of Ike, he sleeps on the end of my bed, I take him for walks every day, and give him treats with pats on the head even when he's "in the doghouse".

I love him alot. He's my family. I was just wondering if it's weird or bizarre that I call him "Baby" and "Sweetheart". So...is it weird?

  • Will I grow any taller?

I'm a 14 year-old female who is about 5"0. I've always been petite and tiny (only weighing 98 pounds right now), but seem average compared to the rest of the girls in my grade. My father is 6"0, and my mother is small, at only 5"2. Over a year-and-a-half ago in September, I had my...you-know-what, when I was thirteen. So I figure that I possibly have another year of growth ahead of me! But I haven't grown at all in about a year! Is it possible that I've reached my permanent height? I would really like to be at least another inch taller. :-(

  • What are some reasons for opposing gay marriage?

I have an assignment for my Communication Arts class. For some reason, we are debating on the legality and ethics of gay marriage. Unfortunately, I have to give reason to OPPOSE gay marriage, as I am in the negative viewpoint team. It's hard to find valid reasons for disagreeing with it, especially for me personally because I'm a liberal who advocates gay rights. So every argument I seem to find against gay marriage I immediately propose an argument against my own idea.

I'm trying to be open-minded about this topic, and open to different opinions, but I'm finding it very difficult.

Can anyone present a few opposing ideas against gay marriage? Thank you all in advance. I would really appreciate good answers!

  • What's your "FML" situation today?

Mine was being depressed about life. Today my friend mentioned the word "cash" and suddenly I was muttering, "Life f$$$$$$ sucks" under my breath, because I had a realization. Isn't this whole world about money? Our daily lives, they all depend and rely on "cash" and that sickens me. We see these celebrities in the media, who haven't really done anything important, and yet we know more about these random people than we know about world catastrophe. All because of a lack of, or surplus of money.

Now, I'm listening to "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve, one of the best songs of all time, and the lyrics themselves are depressing. "...you're a slave to the money then you die."

*Sigh* Anyway, enough of my ranting, what's YOUR FML of the day?
