  • Is my alternator bad?

So, whenever I start my car there is no problems with the battery. It always starts up strong and is no problem. Up until this week. Last time I started the car I noticed a little hesitation before the start up. Now my roommate took the car out the other day and parked it and it won't start up. The battery is relatively new, not sure how new actually but there has never been any hesitation so I assume it was changed recently [recently bought the car at an auction 2 months ago]. Now then why I think it may be the alternator: since I've bought the car there has been a loud belt noise upon startup and after a few moments it will die down and I will put the car in gear and drive away. Also I can't even lock the doors on the car [electronic locking] and my roommate reported this upon parking the car last. So, how do I check if I need a new alternator? Do I have to go out and buy a voltmeter? The biggest concern right now is that the car does not start or even do ANYTHING AT ALL when I put the key in and twist. For refernence: I have a 1994 Mitsubishi Chariot [petrol engine]

  • Porsche 924s crank but no start?

I have a 1987 porsche 924s that will crank when I turn the key but it will not start. There is fuel in the car, the battery is fine I just changed the spark plugs, I changed the distributor cap and rotor recently. There is a strong smell of gas in the cabin as well as in the engine compartment. Though this smell is nothing new. I haven't changed the fuel filter in years and I believe the fuel pump is working I also checked the fuse relay to the fuel pump already (I wish this was the problem). I was driving the car one day and left it sitting for a day or two and then it wouldn't start. Anyone have any suggestions for what I should try next? (I've tryed spraying some starter fluid in the airbox passage into the engine)

  • 2001 Volvo c70 key reprogram?

I got a new key cut and finished. Now the dealer says they have to program the key to the car. The key opens the car doors and even turns the engine over but it won't run for more than a second. Is there a way around reprogramming this key? Maybe disconnecting the car's immobilizer/ antenna ring? how does this key communicate with the antenna ring also? I am aware there is a chip in the butt of the key but still... Anyone have a hack for this?

  • If I did not have Verizon Backup Assistant before does this mean I cannot recover my previous contacts?

My phone drowned in a pool and I just heard about Backup Assist.. Is there any way to get my contacts to my new phone if I have never signed up for Backup Assist? My new phone is the same as the old and are both cheap Samsung phones... as low tech as they get. I seriously doubt my contacts are stored anywhere online. Thanks

  • Oil in ignition coils?

My car (1997 A4 1.8t) will turn over but not start, so today i took a look at my spark plugs and when i took out the ignition coils to see, i pulled out a very wet ignition coil and could not see the spark plug as it was so filled with oil. besides this my car has had coolant problems in the past and actually sprung a leak before it stopped working. i pulled out the rest of the coils and drained out the oil with a hand pump and took out one of the spark plugs which looked intact despite being covered with oil.. obviously i have to replace the spark plugs and probably a gasket, anyone have any ideas as to which gasket i need/ a possible diagnosis? Thanks

  • My '97 A4 1.8t is leaking coolant near the back of the engine.. what part should i replace?

For a week or two now ive been having to fill up my coolant tank with a mixture of coolant and water (hey coolants expensive these days) because i havent had the time to take a look at it. today i did and after i put in the coolant mixture and let the car idle in my driveway for a few minutes it seemed that it was leaking out near the back of the engine.. almost near where i would think the transmission is, maybe the heater core hose?.. i know its not the water pump. thankyou for your input i could use all the help i can get because im a cheap *** and like to do all the work myself on my car

  • i just bought two 12" subs what kind of amp should i buy?

i have two 12" subs along with (what i believe to be) 2 tweeters and 2 mid-level speakers.. i hooked it up to my stereo at home and i could hear the tweeters and mid level speakers working but the bass didnt obviously because theres not enough power.. ik its probably a bad idea but i bought the thing at a garage sale and wanted to see if it works.. i want to put them in my car.. so anyway the guy at the auction said either both are 350 watts each or they are 350 watts put together im not really sure.. there are positive/negative hookups on either side of the box for wiring.. so what wattage/channel amp should i buy in order to use these speakers in my car?
