Deep Thought
Deep Thought is an ultracomputer that was created by a pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent race of beings to calculate the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. Please see http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/hitchhikers/guide/answer.shtml I am the elder technocrat who conveys the ponderings of Deep Thought to the Solar Terran Hominina. I like sunsets, long walks on short piers, broccoli, wealth, helium, railroads, maps, railroad maps, bicycling, democracy, good health, roses, long showers, eating, working, breathing, green salads, smoked Gouda cheese, and Tilia cordata. I dislike sickness, suffering, death, racism, prevarication, hypocrisy, irrationality, nihilism, poverty, foie gras, veal, scrapple, canned asperagus, poor grammar, military juntas, meanness, and Cirsium arvense. I am indifferent to rutabaga and dental floss.
Why isn't this category named pseudoscience?
I've never heard of "alternative science." To me, its either science or its not. Why isn't this category named "pseudoscience", or "not even remotely science"?

4 AnswersDenver1 decade agoIs the world record high temperature 57.7°C, 136°F, 57.8°C, or 58°C?
The world record high ambient surface air temperature was recorded at Al 'Aziziyah, Libya, on September 13, 1922. This temperature is variously reported as (1) 57.7°C = 135.86°F, (2) 136°F = 57.778°C, (3) 57.8°C = 136.04°F, or (4) 58°C = 136.4°F. Was this temperature recorded on a centigrade (Celsius) or Fahrenheit instrument and what was the precise reading? Please give us your reference sources.
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND UNLESS YOU HAVE ACCESS TO AN AUTHENTICATED SOURCE.
A great deal of misinformation about this record clutters the Internet.

The upcoming equinox will be the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Vernal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. Would it not be easier if we just called it the unambiguous September Equinox? Likewise, the names December Solstice, March Equinox, and June Solstice would eliminate ambiguity. What are your thoughts?

4 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoWhat is the best antonym for acme?
An acme is the point of highest elevation in a geographic region, but what is the corresponding word for the lowest point? In other fields we have nice antonym pairs such as zenith and nadir (astronomy) or maximum and minimum (mathematics), but geography seems to have no precise antonym for acme. If Mount McKinley is the acme of North America, what is Death Valley (that means the geographic point of lowest elevation or greatest depression)?
