  • question about land ownership in India?

My husbands father purchased land in Punjab possibly back in the 1970's all legally and went through whatever was required in terms of purchase registration and title transfer in those days

Now this is where the story gets complicated a neighbours property is being contested by muslims that it is their land ...my husband said that this same neighbour then somehow dragged everyones land into the dispute...yes this bit I dont understand ...and that this neighbour then paid some bribes to change documents relating to my Father in Laws property

Plz if it doesnt make sense to u it doesnt make sense to me I dont even live in India

before I go on my FIL and his neighbours have been to court in India and the court has ruled in their favour infact 2 courts have ruled in their favour and now the neighbours whose land is in dispute is taking it to the highest court in india

Now this has been going on for 15 yrs and I have seen no court dates or anything in the last 5

I seriously doubt that thiscan happen can someone enlighten me if this is possible in India

I mean what does a neighbour whose land is in dispute acheive by changing documents that belong to his neighbours and dragging them into the dispute

This neighbour has a DIL who supposedly is in some parlimentary position in Punjab

The neighbour himself is approx 85 and resides in canada and is well off

    I just dont get it

something doesnt add up but if anyon ecan enlighten me or give me some advise on where to look up titles and disputes and court outcomes in India plz do let me know
