  • Yuxi,Yunnan?

Mk my turn to ask a question. Has anyone here been to Yuxi, in Yunnan province (near Kunming)?

I've been offered a part time job there and am trying to establish if 3000-3500 is enough to live off of. In my experience that amount is quite low even for a rural area. So if you've visited or lived in or near Yuxi could you tell me...

What are the costs of things like a standard street food meal? (Fried rice, a single meat dish ect.)

Are things like cheese and butter accessible?

What's the cost of the average taxi ride and the start rate? Bus fare?

How easy is it to get around? Are taxis easily hailed or are they only available from set locations?

I realize this is a long shot but I appreciate any input people can give. Thanks!

  • Car/No car in Irvine CA?

    Hello,

I'll be spending just over a month in Irvine CA for a intensive summer semester at a college there. I'll be staying at on campus housing which will include food so I don't absolutely have to go out for groceries and such, but was hoping to be able to get around town anyways. Does Irvine have sufficient mass transit to make getting around without a car possible? Or would lugging a car all the way to California for such a short period of time be worth it (or even a necessity?)

    Thanks much.

  • Line breaks in answers?

I just answered a question in another section and noticed my paragraphs were non-existant, the text was just one big block. Since other people have paragraphs I know there must be a way to do this.

I don't remamber having this problem in the old Y!A

  • Good US travel TV show?

    Hello,

I teach an English class in China and my students have expressed an interest in seeing some tourist destinations in the United States. I thought a good approach would be to pick an episode from a travel show to show them, but not being a huge travel tv fan I've never seen any shows or heard of any that focus on travel in the US. Does anyone have a show they can recommend (preferably one that touches on the history of the places they visit)?

    Thank you !

  • "substantive expertise" What is meant by this phrase?

It's appeared in a few job applications now and I'm not sure what they're looking for specifically.
