  • Sugar solution killed the plants in my science project faster than salt solution?

I do not understand why. I added equal amounts (2 teaspoons in 8 oz of water) of each in the corresponding jars.

    Thank you in advance everybody!

  • My Seagate external hard drive shows empty and my laptop wants to format it?

I was regularly backing up my files on the external hard drive from the now-dead laptop.

It showed all the backed up files every time.

Now I connect it to my other laptop and it does not only show all 91 G as empty, but it also wants me to format it.

(Yeah right, and erase all of my data)

I strongly suspect the USB ports - they refuse to read my camera as well.

However - I have three USB ports - can all of them be faulty? Could it be something else?

And if it is indeed my USB ports - can I transfer data in some other way?

    Thanks!

  • Permanent eyeliner - do you love it or do you hate it?

I've been using an eyeliner for as long as I can remember. It is my makeup "must do", above everything else.

It takes certain time in the morning and a steady hand (which is when you wake up at 5:00 is hard to achieve)

I am seeing lots of deals for a Permanent Eyeliner lately - I would LOVE to wake up already "made up".

Share your thoughts - "Yay!" or "No Way!" Thanks!

  • Sugar and other carb cravings?

I tried it all and nothing works. Or it works for a day or two and then it doesn't.

    Things I tried:

    * Protein for breakfast

    * Eating a lot of fiber

    * Celery juice

    * Drinking a bunch of water

    * The following supplements:

    - Green Coffee extract

    - Saffron Extract

    - Raspberry Ketone

    - ZetaTrim

    - doTerra Slim and Sassy essential oil

    - Gymnema tea

    - HCG diet (this one worked for a whole month and then stopped)

I am gluten free and casein free.

According to my blood tests I am not diabetic

I can not exercise - I am semi-disabled (Multiple Sclerosis). It takes very little for me to gain weight.

I try to eat a lot of veggies, but at the end - I want sugar. Chocolate, cookies (albeit gluten-free), etc.,

Being desperate I am asking - is there something strong that would kill my appetite? I need to rid myself some 15 pounds of extra fat. I have been 20 lbs lighter than I am now all my life.

  • How much Glutamate is used to build proteins and how much of it is used as a neurotransmitter?

Of the alleged 50g a day produced by the body? How much of it is incorporated as a protein building block and how much remains free to act as a neurotransmitter?

Also I wonder how long does it last in it's free form before it is metabolized?

    If you know, please share!

  • In DNA/RNA interworkings - what happens 3' to 5' and what happens 5' to 3'?

Which way do we read, replicate, create, translate and transcribe?

When I look at one thing at a time it makes sense, but later the 3'-5' and 5'-3' get all mixed up in my head.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Car keyed. I am pretty sure I know who did it. Warrants police report?

I think my neighbors did it in retaliation for complaining to management that they puked all over my door and door steps during last night party.

I did not say anything to them about the noise they were making at 3:00am, but when I woke up to the vomit on my door - I had to.

Of course they know who's door they puked on, therefore they know who complained.

Couple of hours after I spoke to management - I walk out to my car. There is a key scratch all along the driver's side.

My friend says - file a police report. But I do not have a direct proof! Should I still do it?

  • Certificate of naturalization "traded" for a passport?

I admit, I vaguely remember the event (10 years ago), but I was required to send in (mail) my Certificate of Naturalization when I applied for a USA Passport.

I never received it back and though it was a normal procedure to trade one for another.

Now, to prove the citizenship of my son, I am required to send the very Certificate (whi I no longer have). According to the post office passport lady, sending my Passport will not work.

    What should I do?

  • How do I back up my notebook?

Windows XP - all the sites tell me to go to Accessories --> System Tools --> BackUp. Well, I do not have a "BackUp" option under my system tools. Neither could I find anywhere else.

If you know where I can find it - please tell me!

  • Is it normal for my puppy to get tired rather fast?

I have a 5 (or 6) mo German Shephard puppy (she was adopted, so the age is estimated).

She loves playing with other dogs, but gets tired more than any other dog I see. She lies down to catch her breath, then continues, but eventually (in about an hour or so) gets too tired and just lies down.

Not lethargic and very responsive, but I see that she is out of breath.

Is it normal? What can I do to help her?

(Yes, we see the vet regularly)

  • Microsoft Office 2010 is a piece of you-know-what?

Randomly it refuses to copy and paste.

Then just as randomly it refuses to open .docx files (I thought that issue was only for pre-2007 versions)

I also closes on me when it decides it "encountered problem and needs to close" - happens at least a dozen times a week.

And, of course, Microsoft customer services is nowhere to be found.

So, to make this a question - what is going on? Yes, I have the cheapest version of the Office - Home and Student , but I still would like some decent usage

  • What is the difference between rRNA and Ribosome?

I see both of them being referred to as "the protein manufacturing machinery".

How does one relate to another? Are they the same thing?

  • Simple explanation of Redox reactions?

So I am searching for the simple explanation of the redox reaction (basic) and on this site http://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic/redox/definit... it says:

In terms of Oxygen transfer - oxidation is a GAIN of Oxygen, reduction is a LOSS of Oxygen.

In terms of Hydrogen transfer: - oxidation is a LOSS of Hydrogen, reduction is GAIN of Hydrogen

Finally in terms of electron transfer - oxidation is LOSS of electrons, reduction is GAIN of electrons.

This is where I get confused. I thought Hydrogen is often equated to proton, so wouldn't the loss of proton be just the opposite of the loss of electron?

  • IRS CP2000 submission via fax?

I am trying to submit some requested forms using the number given on my letter:

    1-801-620-7725 LOCAL FAX

and I can not get through - either busy signal or no pick up

Does this "LOCAL FAX" thing mean I can only fax using this number if I am in Utah? (where the letter originated from)

  • Why Na + Cl form ionic bonded molecule (NaCl) whereas H + Cl form covalent bonded molecule (HCl)?

Both Na and H have one valence electron, Cl is the same in both cases, why two different types of bond?

Is that because Na is less electronegative than H, therefore does not "hold" to it's valance electron as much and completely gives it up, while H just shares it (not "willing" to completely let it go)?
