  • Marine Corps Base Hawaii...?

My husband has received orders to Kaneohe Bay and we will be moving in a few months. I would like to know what it is like from those that have been stationed there... or spouses that have lived there. I am a teacher and would like to continue to my career, but I have been hearing the negative naysayers saying that there are very few jobs that actually pay well on the island.

We do have kids and our oldest will be starting kindergarten this next school year. Any advice on schools? Housing? Anything???

This is my first BIG move and I am full of curiosity. Thank you for your help.

  • Does California HATE American Citizens?

We have Dream ACT I & II

Our governor just got rid of E-Verify in Orange County

Certain counties are trying to become exempt from having to deport illegal criminals

Just wondering if this state HATES citizens????

Also, does anyone who lives in CA know of a petition to repeal AB 131? Legal California children deserve better than this!

  • "Bad Bones" DQ'ing from military service...?

This kid was enlisted into Marine Corps DEP, failed a couple of ISTs, and all of a sudden was claiming that he had knee problems. Mind you, he has never played sports... His mom booked an appointment with the doctor, that took 4 months to get... (strange) and when he finally went, all in one appointment, they took Xrays and determined that he has "bad bones" in his knees and so he will be discharged medically from DEP.

What is really going on here? This sounds ridiculous!

  • What are the rules on parents becoming dependents?

My cousin has enlisted in the DEP for the Marines. His mom is trying to become a dependent of his and move around with him.. she says his recruiter has told her because of her heart condition, she will be able to be his dependent... yet, when enlisted, she was not listed as such.

I think because she lost Social Security for him once he turned 18, she is trying to mooch money any way she can... what are the rules on parents becoming dependents? My husband is a recruiter and says she probably misunderstood what the recruiter was telling her... but I dont know!

  • Female joining Marines.. How to lose weight?

I have a student that is interested in joining the Marines... but the recruiter has told her that she needs to lose about 20 pounds to join the DEP.

What are some good ways to shed these pounds... my husband is a recruiter and says females have a much more difficult time losing weight than males...

What can I tell her to help her out?

  • Enlisting as a Ranger, etc.....?

I have a student who says he is working with the Army right now and he is going to enlist as a Ranger. Is this possible? I thought these elite forces were something you had to work your way up to, not simply enlist for... he said he went to the Army because the he wanted to enlist as Recon for the Marines, but they told him he could not enlist as Recon...

I need clarification because I find this a little hard to believe.

  • NAVY PCS Questions...?

My little brother is in the Navy... and is currently out to sea, so I have not had the chance to speak to him. He just reenlisted, and I was wondering if PCS orders will come with that reenlistment? My husband is a Marine, and every time he has reenlisted, we have moved... I asked him and he said he had no idea about the Navy... and told me to come to yahoo . . (hahaha)

Any Navy personnel know? Is he likely to PCS, or just stay put where he is? He just completed his first enlistment!

  • WHY WOULD A MARINE NOT KNOW ANYTHING....?

about the Corps and go around telling people that the Marines have not been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan in over 2 years??? Makes no sense, since they are being deployed to Afghan. I have plenty of buddies who are either there, just got back, or soon to be going... they are all Marines, in full MARINE UNITS!

  • Coast Guard Academy vs. NROTC (10 pts for best answer)?

My niece has been working with the Navy recruiter for the NROTC scholarship, but is also very interested in the Coast Guard Academy. They have offered her a softball "scholarship." I was not aware they gave out "scholarships."

The question is, which is the better option. She is completely conflicted on which route to go, so I was wondering what are some of the advantages of one over the other. Both water based branches, same pay, but career wise, which is the better option?

    Thanks!

  • Military advertising slogans...?

I have noticed that the only slogan that has yet to change is the Marines... why is this? Why does every other branch feel the need to continuously change their advertising slogan? And why do I keep seeing slogans advertising everything but WHO they are?

I think advertising who you are, and why you should want to become this is a lot more effective.

  • Recruiters Access to Student Info?

Since the Federal Government provides money to public high schools, they must turn over student information to the recruiters when requested or lose that funding. I know if parents opt out, those kids' info will not be on the list...

Question is, what info must the school over? Can the hand the recruiter a stack of papers with student names and address??? No phone numbers? Is this technically allowed? What should the recruiter do, drive around to all 600 kids homes???

Doesnt seem like they are within regulations...

  • Active Reserve Marines?

A friend of ours said he was looking into submitting a package for Active Reserves in the Marine Corps. My question is, after reading the article on military.com about it, nothing about it, besides the fact that they support reserve units, sounds any different from just being plain old active duty...

Maybe Im not understanding this correctly, but what is the difference?

  • Really Army recruiting techniques?

I teach high school and I happen to work for a school that is very military friendly... while some schools will restrict the recruiters to certain days, times, etc... Our school allows them to come and go as they please. I have had a few recruiters in my classes doing class talks, and I have to ask, those of you who have been recruiters, why in the world would the recruiters come in bad mouthing every other branch to the point where my 17 & 18 year students had to ask them, "what does your branch offer?" Furthermore, they were boasting about the fact that they are the only branch that will still take a 31 on the ASVAB, and how lax the standards are to get in... the feedback sheets I have my students turn in showed that many were turned away by this. Is this taught in recruiter school? The other branches did none of this.

  • Question on Post 9/11 GI Bill...?

My husband has 11 years in the Marine Corps. I have already completed a Masters Degree, and he is almost done with his Bachelors. We have two kids, 4 and 1, and we would like to know how much the Post 9/11 GI Bill is worth? We have been to the websites to read up on it, but all we can find is 36 months of schooling costs... How MUCH is this worth, because we would like to split it between the two of them; in order supplement the college funds we already have set up for them.
