Big virus in PC! Lost total control of PC Please help?
My home PC is totally screwed. When I plug in a pen drive the virus replaces all my folders with exe's that look like folders. Next when I try to run task manager it says Task Manager has been disabled by administrator. When I go to Start -> Run or just start notepad the virus starts typing "Sumanya" and it locks down the PC (I lose control). Bitdefender failed find any virus. The virus is also in Safe Mode!! it still keeps typing in text boxes in safe mode! What do I do :( I'd hate to reinstall. I tried to run SmitFraudFix but nothing is working >:(. And oh the virus came from another infected pen drive :(
3 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoCleaning inside the LCD monitor!!?
Hi,
I got some dust particles inside my LCD screen. I opened it up and remembered that I should not touch the LCD surface. I need to get the dust off both the white background and the LCD. How do I do it? Can I use some kind of cotton swab? or a clean cloth? I don't have a air blower :(
1 AnswerMonitors1 decade agoLCD Monitor Heating causes pixels to fade?
Ok, I have a NEC MultiSync LCD 1560V monitor. Today morning while watching a movie I noticed that a few lines on the top have a brighter color than the other ones. The entire line isn't affected by this problem but the pixels in the middle of those lines seem to be. My monitor from day one heats the top part of the LCD panel to like 40C, it seems that this heat is causing the bright pixels, when the monitor is cooled down and started, there are no bright pixels. It seems some circuit behind the LCD panel is heating it up. I'm thinking of removing the monitor and installing a peace of cardboard between the circuit and the LCD panel. But I seriously haven't removed an LCD in my life. Or do I have a serious problem? I reduced the brightness and the heating is low so there are no bright pixels. Will my idea work? is it hard to remove a LCD monitor? is my suspicion correct? or is there something wrong with the LCD panel itself?
3 AnswersMonitors1 decade agoDo generator's attract lightning?
I have a very small (1 feet X 1 feet X 1.5 feet) 650VA fuel powered generator. There has been a lot of lightning strikes in our area which knocks off power for hours. I normally run the generator when there is power failure but I'm scared to run it because it might to attract lightning when its running (generators create a magnetic field, so they say). The generator is kept under a roof (garage).
Is this correct? do magnet's attract lightning strikes? the generator isn't grounded correctly though. Hour house doesn't have a lightning arrestor as well. But we have a lot of tall tree's.
So is it safe to run my small generator inside the garage? Will it invite lightning strikes towards my house?
Thanks
4 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoGround wire length is larger than the natural wire length causing problems?
Our house ground wire is very long but our live and natural wires are very short. Once there was a surge in our telephone line system and both my Belkin Surge Protectors seemed to have not stopped it. The surge was stopped at my last protector when its sensitive fuse blew (it was a 10 ohm resistor fuse).
Is it possible that since the natural wire is shorter than the ground wire the surge wantted to go through my PC and into the natural wire? Or is it just because the 10 ohm resistor fuse was a bit too sensitive or something? (Well it didn't blow up when there was no lightning outside)
I'm thinking of making my natural wire longer by extending it so a surge finds the ground wire more attractive, is this advice able?
2 AnswersOther - Electronics1 decade agoConnecting Two UPS's to the same computer?
I was wondering if it would be ok to connect two UPS's to the same PC in parallel. So if one fails the other one would keep powering the PC. But both the UPS's are different models.
Thanks
8 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoTwo Battries to one UPS?
I have a 650VA UPS. It has a 12V 7.2A Battery. The amount of backup time that it provides is low so I'm thinking connecting another battery of the same model to it. I'm connecting the Batteries:
Batt 1 => (+) (-)
| |
Batt 2 => (+) (-)
It will extend my Backup time right? Also the Battery need a voltage of bitween 13.4 - 13.7V to recharge. It will work right?
If I connect it, it would mean that the UPS will become a 14.4A UPS right?
Thanks
2 AnswersAdd-ons1 decade agoLightning strike larger than the surge protector maximum?
I have a 75,000 amp Belkin SurgeMaster Gold with 2700 Joules. But what if the Lightning bolt is larger than 75,000 amps? will it just ignore the protector and hit the PC or will it destory the MOVs but still ground the lightning and then allow the Safety Shutdown Technology to disconnect the PC?
Thanks
