  • Is it possible to start a class action defamation/slander/libel lawsuit on another's behalf?

    Can an individual, business, or state/local government or the public start a class action lawsuit against an individual/business on behalf of another person, specifically a public figure?

    Say I support a politician, and someone has printed something provably false about this politician and I want to sue them. Or get a state governor to start the lawsuit with or without the consent of the politician.

    Damages sought would be given back to the court, the state, our tax system or community. The intention of the suit would be to do as much financial punishment to the defense for having committed a crime of defamation against the public.

    Is this possible in our court system?

  • How to deal with childish parents?

    My parents are conservative Republican Catholics from SC. My dad is a prominent medical doctor. I moved to GA for school, and became a Democrat. Since 1999, my parents have become increasingly pro-Bush/McCain and they send me hateful Repub and specifically anti-Democrat emails, many of which are chain-letters with outrageous libelous statements regarding Democrat candidates.

    I have asked multiple times not to receive emails of those types. They continue to send them. I have expressed how much it upsets me that they send these emails, but I am ignored.

    During a job search, I urged my parents not to send me links- that I had a lot on my plate. They send me bad leads which reveal they know nothing about jobs I actually perform, ignoring me, knowing it will anger me. I see this as passive-aggressive antagonization in response to my disdain for their political information terror campaign (chain letters)

    What the hell can I do short of email-filtering them out?

  • How can I search Amazon for only highly rated items?

    I want to be shown only 4 to 5 stars that were ranked by 10 or more people. This feature is absent in Amazon. Is there an external site/service or a way to manipulate Amazon's search query (as in an advanced search) to get these?

    Also, is it possible to use the Amazon API to do these things, because if so, I'm going to make a website to do all this stuff. Certainly, someone else has already done this...it's like a duh thing that everyone seems to want that Amazon doesn't want to give.

  • What are possible causes of a citrate metabolism disorder leading to a deficiency of co-Q10 in gum tissue?

    I read in a study that a high percentage of people with periodentitis (gum disease) have coenzyme q10 deficiencies in their gum tissue, which is believed to indicate a systemic imbalance of cellular respiration, specifically related to citrate and the citric acid cycle. And particularly regarding the amount of co-Q10 in white blood cells.

    I've wikipedia'd all this but I still don't know if anyone knows the cause of this particular and possibly very widespread condition. Let's figure it out and fix it!

    additional questions: Could coenzyme q10 deficiency related at all to calcium, phosphorus, or vitamin D intake? Is it related at all to hypernatremia or hypokalemia? Is it related to diabetes or prediabetic /syndrome X?

    Thanks in advance for your quality feedback.

  • What is the meaning of Paulie's quote in Sopranos?

    "the framers (framus) intersects with the ramistan approximately at the paternostra"

    what does this mean??? What is ramistan short for? Given the context of AJ complaining about America, I understand 'framers' (of the constitution) but maybe he's not saying that. Paternostra is 'our father', God, Jesus, etc

    I'm dying to know why people think this is so funny to people...I feel left out. I usually get Paulie-isms but now i feel like it's an inside joke everyone pretends to get but doesn't.

    please help. Thanks!

  • What song/artist did the soundtrack for the Samurai Jack episode "Tale Of X9"?

    There is a funky acid jazz house mix in this episode that is so incredibly matched to the style and mood that it should have won a best music award. Someone please tell me who the artist was...i've looked on wikipedia and imdb and have no leads.

  • How to remove TD border in a table?

    I'm trying to 'completely' disappear the 1-2px border between adjacent cells in a table. no matter what i do, it's still there. it sucks. I was lied to. I thought technology was good and not evil. that's what i get for listening to steve jobs.

    I've tried everything. I have used all the border tricks I can think of in CSS...I've even done the cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" as attributes trick in the containing table and inner tables...no luck. What's going on?? This is in firefox 2.0.whatever.

    Table.container

    {

    border-collapse: collapse;

    border-spacing: 0;

    border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;

    background-color: lightblue;

    }

    td.pixel:hover

    {

    font-size: 12px;

    background-color: red;

    color: red;

    border-collapse: collapse;

    border-spacing: 0pt 0pt;

    border-style: none;

    padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;

    width: 12px;

    height: 12px;

    empty-cells: show;

    border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;

    }

    I know border-width is probably actually wrong, but it doesn't work with or without it.

  • Why is South Carolina so backwards?

    I ask because both of my families and steps are increasingly racist and they both live in SC. I grew up here and there's a lot of racism, intolerance, 'fag-bashing', anti-intellectualism. People here think Bill O'reilly is their great leader after bush and that Oreiily's interaction constitutes acceptable behavior (in case you don't know, he talks *on TOP of people*)

    I think because they are schoolteachers and doctors they say 'because I've seen it all' that they are entitled to having their cynical point-of-view. They call me 'insular' but I've actually traveled the world and been to nearly every state and lived in four of them...if anything, this insult is a projection. I think they know their racism disappoints and frustrates me and so they keep increasing it and making it worse to antagonize me. No that's too self-centered, isn't it? They're showing their true colors.

    So my question is: is this about right for SC? Please tell me your south carolina experience differs.

  • Why do the ignorant post answers?

    Why is it that people insist on answering questions on Yahoo! answers when they have absolutely no expertise, experience, knowledge or even understanding of the context with which the question was asked?

    My approach is if I am ignorant about something, I don't try to answer it. Why not? Because it harms the questioner with disinformation, wastes my time and yours.

    I need insight into the psyche of the ignorant. Are they trying to be 'special', garner attention, do they enjoy typing for typing sake, do they actually think they are right just because they made it up (as in Munchausen's syndrome) ?

    Since I'm asking for opinions here, I suppose you don't have to be a qualified psychologist to answer.

  • Why is the saluda river in columbia, SC always so cold compared to the Broad and the merged Congaree river?

    The saluda river is sooo cold, something like 50-60 degrees yr round, yet it must be over 150 miles from the mountains in NC. Why is this?

    I like to go to the old tree swing on the river from an entrance off Bush river road (now a teen camping/gay cruising spot, apparently). Swimming there is almost intolerable..it's great on hot summer days. Swimming around the congaree at Gervais st. bridge-park is much warmer. It must be either the temp of the Broad river warming it up or the width and shallowness of the Congaree that gives it more opportunity to warm up.

    Anyone want to shed light on the subject?

  • Is cynicism the disease of humanity?

    Overpopulation. AIDS, cold war (it ain't over until all disarm nukes). Peak oil, Global Warming. Extremists of all types. Suicide Bombers, White collar (corporate) crimes. Belief system competition. Racism, intolerance. Victimization and self-sabotaging disempowerment.

    Game theory, the prisoner's dilemma. Entropy and r-selection.

    Mexican candy, diabetes, Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton.

    So where's the good news?

  • Does wanting to necropost make you sad?

    I have urges to necropost. Then I think it's retarded and don't. Sometimes I do, just to get my sniveling, spineless last word in, on the off chance someone will google-find the forum.

    Then I feel really sad for myself, sheepish because i'm johnny-come-lately. Sometimes years lately.

    Is there a support group for this?

  • Is this the Kundalini force?

    I have this unique ability to make a very pleasant bodily sensation. It is almost orgasmic, it feels like a sensation of free-fall. I am not sure if I am stimulating a muscle- inducing the feeling seems akin to kinetic volition.

    * The sensation feels as if it originates at the end of my spine/perineum area, or deep in my stomach.

    * The sensation radiates outward but mostly upward to my head.

    * When it shuts off (when I stop causing it), I feel the aftershock wave of the sensation ceasing.

    * If I cause it to happen for a long time, I will temporarily remain in a state of calm, peace and elated arousal.

    1. So is this the kundalini force, or is it something else?

    2. Is it harmful to do? (Am I losing something by creating the peace)

    I also know it's not addictive because I don't sit around doing it all day. I'm too lazy. But if it's not bad I probably should be doing it.

  • What are the top 10 fastest careers to change into?

    I want a change of career...FAST! It can't be a minimum wage thing like usher at a movie theater.

    It has to be something accredited or certifiable, a specialization. Like state-certified cow-inseminator or something. Actually, that's gross.

  • Why are people interested in conspiracy theories?

    My hope is to frame this question, such that there is no bias one way or the other.

    I want to know what moves controversial, unresolved conspiracy conversations forward?

    That is, why do some people give thought to plausible theories-those having credible evidence-especially when they fail the logical fallacy test (such as the highly controversial 9-11 and global warming issues) and other people aggressively avoid those issues entirely?

    here's some appetizers to start with:

    http://warp.povusers.org/grrr/conspiracytheories.h...

    http://uplink.space.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=ph...

    When answering, please, no references to David Icke, Michael Tsarion or 'Reptoids' or anything with 'Tesla'/UFO/Maya connections. Interesting though they may be, I'm interested in plausible theories and rational thinking, not grand assumptions or make-em-ups.

  • My roommate is a jerk, what can I do?

    She just moved into a large house that's like a boarding home. There are three males on one end of the house, two femleseach in their own rooms. Another female and now this new lady moved in next to her.

    When I see her in the kitchen, she seems to me to be controlling, abrasive and combative.

    For example, she made a point to tell me how she disagreed about something very minor, then told me that I didn't listen to her. Even though I did and she didn't really take the time to get what I was saying (she wasn't listening).

    Then, she walked in and said 'hello' and i nodded. She came back half a minute later and said 'I SAID hello', demanding a response.

    What can I say to get her to not talk to me ever again? Or how can I make her go away? I wish there were a roomie-begone spray that I could just sprinkle under her door.

    No one here likes her. Especially the older man, who fought with her on the first day, and judging from the conversation it was mostly her hypersensitivity.
