1 AnswerJapan1 decade agoTranslation help, please: 97 words re Louise Brooks (silent cinema) and contemporary artists in a new book.?
This is a description of a book by Osvaldo Guerrieri, "Istantanee":
You'll be helping the Louise Brooks Society (q.v.). Thanks!

1 AnswerLingue1 decade agoTranslation help, please: concerning silent-film star Louise Brooks ... and several other "European" artists.?
This is from a review of "Istantanee", a new book by OsvaldoGuerrieri: "Da un ignoto suonatore di fisarmonica a Luigi Pirandello sulla spiaggia di Camaiore, da Joyce a Pound, da Louise Brooks a Lina Cavalieri, da Gadda in auto a un «pezzetto di Lager», Istantanee racconta le immagini ma soprattutto lo sguardo che si posa su di esse. Come il tocco del risveglio."

The photo is at: http://louisebrooks.livejournal.com/ (posted "Thu., May 28th"). I figure its name is Pampa -- a Santa Fe town.

It concerns Louise Brooks, and the two movies she made for G.W. Pabst in 1928-29.
"Stummfilmtage

Noitten vuosikymmenten tyylisuosikkini on sulokas 1920-luvun mykkäelokuvatähti, amerikkalainen Louise Brooks, jota päätinkin koettaa lihavistomaisesti jäljitellä. Inspiraatiokuvana toimi vuonna 1927 filmattu elokuva Now We're In the Air, jossa Louise esiintyi muun muassa tällaisessa tyllihamosessa ...

A method of either removing the correction fluid or reading through it is needed, for a library book about one of the founders of American dance, annotated by someone who danced with him in the Twenties.

I KNOW it's a funny question. It's for a story. Gotta plant the Secret Code in something a woman sets aside (in springtime). Not a purse.

4 AnswersNew York City1 decade agoBook mystery: How did Glenn Close's name come to be dropped in a novel published in 1968?
O.K., that's a trick question. The novel, an alternate-world tale called "The Woodrow Wilson Dime," by Jack Finney, was FIRST published in 1968. In the other world that the main character enters, Paul Newman is a pharmacist, and a young woman is his assistant.
When the story was re-published as one of "3 by Finney" in 1987, the assistant's name became Glenn Close ... who had starred in a movie version of Finney's "Marion's Wall" in '85.
That answers the trick question, but the real question is: What is the pharmacist's assistant's name in the 1968 edition of "The Woodrow Wilson Dime"?
The answer is toward the end of Chapter 6. Perhaps your local library has a copy of the original....
(Plz, no answers that look like w y l d e guesses. And btw, it's a very funny story, especially recommended for dog lovers.)
