  • Advice about Remington 12 gauge with 3 inch magnum shells please?

I work night-time armed security on a large construction site near downtown Dallas. It is in a relatively bad part of town and baddies try to steal equipment, copper piping, or other materials.

I work alone and carry a Sig Sauer P220 for my sidearm. Since I practice a lot, I'm a great shot. However, I am not very intimidating since I'm a really small Asian girl.

The bad guys just try to come onto the fenced property anyhow.

My Texas Level 3 security license allows me to carry a shotgun as well as a handgun so I bought a Remington 870 Express Tactical 12 gauge shotgun to help things along. I've been carrying it for a few days. It chambers both 2¾ and 3 inch shells.

Originally, I started to buy some 00 buck in the 2¾ size (8 pellets) but saw the 3 inch shells (15 pellets). I asked the sales guy if they can be used in my gun and he said yes - so I bought a few boxes. When I got home I noticed they said "Magnum" on the boxes. The shotgun does not say anything about Magnum loads.

I always thought magnum ammo was specific to magnum firearms. Is it OK to use 3 inch magnum loads in my Remington? The ammo is Remington too.

    I appreciate your help.

  • Police Officers & Gunsmiths - duty weapon help please?

I work as an armed-private security officer and carry a black Sig Sauer P220 as my sidearm. Sometimes my job requires me to remain in the hot Texas sun for hours. Temperatures can exceed 100° F. The bottom of my forearm tends to touch and rub against the top of my holstered weapon and the salty perspiration is causing a light-powdery rust to form at the rear of the slide and near the rear sights. I maintain the gun well, keeping it oiled and everything. However, the oil just comes off as I perspire in the heat.

I'm using a Blackhawk Serpa carbon fiber holster and while I can change to another style, I prefer not to use a holster with a covering flap and snap. I work in nasty part of town and want quick access to my weapon if it is needed. This is a $1000 gun so the situation is driving me crazy! I need to stop any corrosion before it gets bad.

Right now, it is minimal and unnoticeable.

I can't possibly be the only one who has had this rust problem. Hopefully, veteran cops or gunsmiths can share different solutions. All your suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Bi-Polar World?

Is it not strange that the planet earth is bi-polar?

Maybe that explains some of the recent events and circumstances.

    It's just another Manic Monday.

  • Automobiles & driving in the UK and Europe?

We all know that the British drive on the left side of the road and we Americans drive on the wrong side.

The steering wheel is on the right in the UK and it is located on the left in the USA.

Where are the pedals located on a car in Europe?

In the states, the accelerator (gas or petrol) pedal is on the right. The brake pedal is directly to the left of it.

If there is a clutch pedal, it located at the very most left of the three.

Americans accelerate with the right foot and usually apply the brake with the right foot. If the vehicle has a clutch pedal, the left foot is used to disengage the clutch when shifting gears.

How does it work in the UK?

Are the pedals the same or are they reversed. Do the British accelerate with the left foot?

(Before I get a bunch of angry Yanks correcting me, please understand that the comment about Americans driving on the "wrong" side of the road is a friendly attempt at humor for our British mates. Don't get offended.)
