I'm still suffering with regular expression and would like some help.

I need a regular expression that matches anything BUT a certain substring. How do you write that?

For example, I want to match...

"start", anything but "hello", "end"

so "start" and "end" are required at both ends but the text in between can have anything except "hello"

hence if we have...

"start askjh12312>?LK_+|} end" this will match

but...

"start asdkh23908][ hello =-kasdf end" this will not match

of course...

"asdfsakjhk2324=-" will not match for not having "start" and "end" at both ends.

today i happened to come to yahoo answer. but whenever i click on ANY question, yahoo answers shows me a verizon ad every time. the worse part is, there is no "skip ad" button or any sort. I eventually came to realize that clicking the "back" button on my browser seems to be the only escape strategy.

does anybody else getting this?

do you agree that yahoo is just MESSED UP for doing that?

i just installed and played a little of blazing angels 2 PC version, I realized that it can not be controled with mouse. But without mouse control, it is very difficult to even complete the first mission. is there any way to enable mouse control? or should i just go get a $10 joystick from canadacomputers?

i live in canada and i'm chinese. i'm filling this application form for my next co-op term, which asks "are you visible minority". the form conviniently provides a definition which states "members of visible minorities are persons, other than aboriginal peoples, who are non-caucasian in race or non-white in colour, regardless of birthplace"

so....... is chinese caucasian? i wikipediaed it and didn't really get it.

am i visible minority?

can you describe the similarities and differences? i'm having a hard time distinguish them.

first of all by "24 game" i meant that card game which you try to calculate 24 from 4 random numbers using + - * / in any order.

anyways i remember there was a kinda tricky question that can only be solved through decimal. it was something like... 5, 5, 5 or something but i can't remember. it's actually a somewhat famous question. does anybody here know? i'm trying to trick a friend of mine.

I got 4GB of RAM with Intel Core 2 Duo. I now realized that 32bits OS can only use 3.5GB of it. But Intel Core 2 Duo can only use 32bits OS (am i correct?). Is there a way to fully use all 4GB (or more)? I tried with 32bits Windows XP pro and Ubuntu 7.10, they both show 3.5GB. Does Windows Vista have the same problem?

I know I could use the server version, but I don't want to. I need to play games on it. I don't want to waste my Geforce 8600M GT.

I was play GTA-SA (PC version) and I was on this mission where i'm supposed to win the lowrider hop contest. but i can't figure out the controls work for hopping the lowrider. can anyone tell me? i know "2" for hop and "h" for rising for lowering. but how does the arrows work?

i can't figure out how i can bake frozen pizza evenly. what happens is that i follow the instruction on the box of the frozen pizza exactly. but it always turns out to have hard, dry and burnt edge with raw centre.

any suggestions?

i'm a developer and i have all kinds of servers running on my computer. so i need really powerful anti-virus and firewall to secure my system. i've been using norton internet security for years, but it's such huuuuuge pain in the butt. i've decided to abandon norton internet security from now on and use symantec antivirus instead. most of my friends told me that symantec antivirus is an awesome choice (and i can get it from school for free). but i've never used it before and uncertain if it's suitable for me.

do you think this is the right move?

what would be your recomandation?

I'm planning to buy a new laptop pretty soon. Just wondering, is it possible to purchase a laptop without windows attached? Would that be cheaper? Since I use linux as my primary OS and I my university offers free and legal windows vista business edition to all students. Getting another copy of windows is completely pointless.

additional question. is it possible to purchase a custom built laptop? Since I still haven't found any pre-built laptops that match my specifications.

If possible, please let me know where can I get one. I live in Waterloo, so I'm willing to go as far as Toronto for it.

i'm a student web developer on my co-op term right now. although this question isn't really work related but i'm just curious. I've quite rich experiences with most of the web development techniques, however one thing i've always wanted to do is to make a simple multi-player online game (such as card games) using ajax (together with php, mysql....)that can receive other players' actions in real time. which means if one player makes a move then everybody else knows right away. you might say "why not just use java applet or flash?". well.. i'm just curious. i tried to make ajax send requests to server and receive updates periodically (such as every 3 seconds). but that is still really slow and inefficient especially when you are playing a game. so.. is there a way?

I'm a student web developer currently working on my co-op term. Anyways the thing is, my company network blocks facebook and many other sites. I tried to use a proxy server to bypass them. but most proxy servers (such as bypasser.info) are painfully slow and doesn't allow you to login or post. So I actually setup my home computer as a proxy server using apache 2 + mod_proxy. that is safe (of course, it's my own computer) and allows access to all. I set up IE7 at my workplace following... IE -> tools -> Internet options -> connections -> LAN settins -> proxy server and entered my home computer's ip and port 80. It works when i go to typical sites such as google and yahoo. i checked my ip at canyouseeme.org and my ip is shown as my home ip (which means it's working). but the problem is when i go to facebook, it fails to load (but no error message, that is normally given by company filter). I wonder why that happens and how i can solve it. Thank you!!
