  • A question about gay marriage...?

I am a somewhat indifferent supporter of gay marriage. In my mind the rules of marriage are set down by a religion; some religions (like mine) say that homosexuality is wrong and others say that it is OK. Therefore, if we accept marriage as a religious issue (as I do), then government should have no say on whom is allowed to marry whom. Just because my religion says "gay not OK" does not mean that I can force those beliefs and/or marital practices on anyone else. This is why, though I believe that homosexuality is a sin, I am actually for gay marriage (after all, who am I to judge?)...

My question has to do with where we draw the line. Polygamy, for example, is outlawed in this country despite the fact that a number of religions have traditionally practiced it. If we allow gay marriage because it is acceptable to some religions will we have to then allow polygamy? What about beastiality? At some point we, as a society, must define where marriage ends and something else begins. Does that defenition end with heterosexual marriage? Homosexual marriage? Polygamy? Your thoughts?

  • overly strick gun laws?

I consider myself generally conservative and as you may guess I am against overly-strick gun laws. But i want to know if i am the only one who thinks that it is outrageous that a person who was sent to a mental institution by a judge because he was considered to be a threat to himself and others would be able to purchase hand guns legally. If you ask me, where ever you stand on the gun control issue, this seems to fly in the face of common sense.
