  • Can my horses safely graze where my dogs live?

I have two small horses. Where we live in the Mid West was hit hard by the drought. Needless to say any green grass I want to give to the horses. They have a few acres they graze but it's stripped down low right now but starting to grow. I have about 1/2 acre where I keep my 3 Labs. Is it safe if the horses eat that grass? Do I need to worry about worms or anything else they can contract?

    Thanks for the advice!

  • Mixing different powders?

So I'm reading Guns and Ammo and on page 96 in the corner they mention that Hornady is blending three different types of powder to use in their Superformance ammunition. Is this something new? I have been reloading for 25 years now and have never heard of this.

I imagine it is not for the average loader like me but for a place like Hornady, with all of their know how and equipment, can do it safely. Any thoughts?

  • My pet turkey has swollen feet?

I have two pet turkey. They are great! Follow me around like a puppy all day. Both are hens, and one has feet that have been swollen for a few weeks now. Most of the swelling is located on the inside toe one each foot. They are both one year old.

She has a hard time walking. She sits most of they day instead of following the other one around. They are free roaming, mainly eat bugs and plants but get a lot of fruit and veggie scraps from us as well. Tons of old bread too.

I have checked her feet for cuts or anything that could cause this and I have found nothing.Any ideas on what could be causing her these problems?

    Thanks in advance.

  • AR-15 upper to lower shim?

What I am trying to find with no luck on Google is the shim or what ever the part is for taking up that slight slop between the upper and lower. I have a Spikes upper and Rhino Arms lower and there is a very small amount of play between them. Just enough to notice is all but it annoys me to no end.

I have seen this part somewhere but now I cannot find it. Any help would be great!

    Thanks!

  • Cold Bluing steel question?

I recently bought some Birchwood Perma Blue and refinished an old single shot 12 Ga. that was beat up and rusty. Looks great now! Questions is what bluing is the best one to buy? This stuff worked great but I saw tons of other options out there. Any input from those of you whom have some experience with bluing your guns would be great!

    Thank you very much!

  • Shooting lacquer coated, steel cased ammo.?

So I shot a few dozen rounds through my AR-15, and when I got to some brass cased ammo I noticed on the brass cases that they had some of what looked like the lacquer all over them. Has anyone ever had this stuff build up in the chamber and cause problems? I have shot thousands of the steel stuff in my AK and never had a problem. Thanks!

  • CMMG AR-15, what do you think?

OK, so I have a grand to spend on a new toy. Just sold off a couple guns for a grand and a few thousand rounds of 7.62x39 and .223. Now I need something to use all these .223 rounds I have. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to AR-15's but have been looking a bit. I want a shorter barrel 16", and a flat top. I really don't have any other preferences. What do you guys think of CMMG? The one I have been looking at it at this link. http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/CMMG-16-Stainl...

I have read some good things about them but want some other opinions on them, or where else should I look? Remember I only have a grand to spend on it.

    Thanks in advance!

  • .444 Marlin. Anyone have one?

So I'm thinking of trading in a .45/70 I have for a .444 Marlin. (The .45/70 is a trapdoor model so I cannot load the rounds to heavy orthey will over pressure very quickly for this action.) Maybe one of the Marlin,or hopefully if I can find one a Winchester Big Bore lever action. I would mainly use it for deer hunting. I hunt in a heavy brush area, and all shots are no more than 100 yards or so. Right now I use a .44 Mag but for no particular reason I want a .444 Marlin.

I know the rounds are not cheap but I reload everything so cost of shooting is no issue to me. I figure if I trade in my .45/70 that is one less powder type and bullet I have to keep on the shelf, and powder and bullets are interchangeable for the .44Mag and .444 Marlin.

Any input and experience with this round would be great. Thanks!

  • Anyone have any experience with a smokless powder muzzleloader?

I know of several makers of them, most are custom jobs. Savage makes one. Has anyone here ever shot one or own one? If so do you like them?

  • Favorite Venison recipes?

Now with deer season in full swing, at least around here, what is your favorite venison recipe?

    Mine is:

    1/2 Cup Soy Sauce

    2 Tbs Ground Ginger

    2 Tbs Brown Sugar

    3-4 cloves Garlic (diced)

2 tsp. Accent if you like MSG in your food.

Soak a good piece of back strap or the tenderloins in it for a few hours or over night. Remove them, wrap in bacon and grill it. I also omit the bacon and bake it covered to retain the moisture. Do not over bake it or it will be very dry even when covered.

  • Fully supported Glock barrel?

Question regarding if my barrel of my Glock 27 Gen 3 has a fully supported barrel or not. If I out a round in the barrel, it if fully supported up to to the extractor groove, where the body ends and the head begins. Is this what is considered a fully supported casing?

    Thank you!

  • AR-15 or Springfield M1-A?

In the near future I will be able to purchase one or the other. My problem is that I cannot decide on which one to get.

I like the AR-15 for plinking in the back yard, and the cheap ammo prices. Also I can get a decent one for about $1000. Not trying to compare the two but I do own an AK-47 and love it.

The M1 would become my new deer rifle. I have been looking at the standard model. Walnut stock. It's the gun I have loved for many many years. I am a big fan of the Garand and think the M1 would be a great addition to my collection with my Garand. Just which I could get one in .30-06.

I am leaning towards the M1 but any input would be great. Anything I am not thinking through?

    Thanks all!

Either of them would NOT be tacticooled out. I cannot stand that.

  • Went to Cabelas yesterday and wow, HUGE line to buy guns!?

So we went to the Cabelas in St. Louis yesterday morning. I take my three little kids there to see the fish and stuffed animals every few weeks, and I also look in the gun section for a while. Well when we got there, there was a HUGE line weaving up and down isles, everywhere! Hundreds of people long, all waiting to buy a gun.

HOLY COW!!! What was going on?? I have seen a decent line before like after Noboma was elected but what gives? Anyone else see any lines like this lately?

It was just the line to look at and buy a gun, and pick up powder and primers. All of the ammo is stocked on shelves outside of that area so it was not for ammo.
